NZ Starters now in total MELTDOWN!!!

Recommended Posts

The Starter had clearly been having hearing issues...

..as evidenced with the example I gave previously when ex Jock now Stipe Robinson clearly heard the Jock saying "

...NO I'm not ready"

Wherupon Harrison released them and the Jock promptly fell off...luckily not injured

EVERY Starter should be Auditored and Hearing and Eye exams carried out...

New tech is easily available with hands free Comms...

...but Gripper had become used to doing it his way and against the Manual

...if he'd have even bothered to look for Scooter...without being able to hear...

..he would have seen him just releasing the Red Hooded Mare standing out like a flashing light...

But he chose the lying root again and told Guerin the hood was off...

...which Guerin swollowed whole

BTW "Japs" is extremely racist

You back to writing fiction Thomaas?

Well at least you seem to agree that voice signals in such an environment are flawed.

WTF do you mean?

Ive always found out FACTS...mainly by subterfuge due to the FACT quite a number in this industry LIE...

ESPECIALLY the RIU...

Previously in this thread the FACT that the Waikato Barrier moved because the Starting Crew FAILED to pull the Handbreak on..

The RIU report told a bunch of LIES to protect their mates

"The Barrier stalls moved due to a mechanical  malfunction"

100 % LIE

And HARRISON's shocking hearing...where he should have been immediately sent for testing

The Starter Mr Harrison was asked by the Chair if he had had any observation of the incident in question. He responded by saying that Ms Smyth did call out and that he thought she had said that she was ready. He said that after seeing the films it was obvious that she was not.

Stipendiary Steward Mr Robinson was present at the start and standing very close to stall no. 1.

He said that he heard Ms Smyth say very clearly that she did not have her foot in the iron. He said that the start was then made and he observed that Ms Smyth did not have her left foot in the iron and that as her horse left its barrier stall Ms Smyth made contact with the side of the stall and fell from her mount.

Of course the Assistant Starter saw she wasn't ready......

This was AFTER the Assistant should have given the all clear...but as we know....

...and obviously highlighted MANY times here...they're a LAW UNTO THEMSELVES....

...the Starter was about to push the button and the horse reared...

...he doesn't have to wait to get another all clear...ok?

How he could mistake a calm "ok" with an agitated "NO" is probably due to his shocking hearing...but more likely due to his 'don't give a f'...

Good starters position themselves in front of the stalls...

...so they can see and HEAR WTF is going on

Hence HEARING and EYESIGHT testing for Starters should be mandatory once a year...

How old is Tony McGovern...70?

He needs to be tested BEFORE he takes over

McGovern sounded mightily miffed having to say "watch ya gates" yesterday...

....but he added a wee "clear" just before that to make sure they were all on the same page...

...when the hopeless RIU had seen enough of the lack of consistency around the country...

...they got all the Starters and their assistants up for a barn dance/piss up and Doughboys 'party'...so they could all say in unison

"WATCH YA GATES"

Pointless...it's like an Olympic Athletics starter saying "BOO" just as he presses the button...

Maybe McGovern...with all of his experience, will insist on having another Starters piss up to change the pointless comment...

What many Starters hate is Jockeys anticipating the start...which is what you get if there's old Jack Mudford's call...

..."now I'm ready when you're ready"

Which would have saved the day....the other day

Hang on Jack. There's still one out behind the gates.

The Manual needs a total overhaul before any changes in personnel.

I suggest an electric current transmitted from the assistant starter to the button pusher's balls...when he receives a jolt ...open the gates.

Simply incredible this 'Inquiry' is taking so long??

Is it because the HOPELESS RIU are trying to let the heat die down...

..before they admit they knew these Starters were IGNORING the Manual?

Methinks the likes of David Greene won't be letting sleeping dogs LIE...

Because many, including him, know the RIU LIE...

And then try to slip the INTEGRITY of incidents happening...

...such as the Barrier Blanket being left off the Derby runner up...

...tucked away in a supplementary report that they thought nobody would notice...

So much so that the Auckland Racing Club....who employ these starters....

Didnt know this major f up had happened...

Well done RIU...and you've got INTEGRITY in your name

pffffftttt

Maybe the boys have hired that old other shrew...

Cleo Viaductress....the 'go to' when you want your Employment contract dealt with...

...seasoned with vindictive flowerey lingo...

Just as he did with David puller Walker...who should have got off evidently

Perhaps the 'argument' will swirl around them needing 6 other instances of leaving horses with Red flashing Hoods on...by the outside Barrier

That's a shame if they have indeed fallen on their swords.  That won't change what's wrong with the manual.

Was there a Stipe behind the gates when the mistake was made?

Where are they going to get experienced starters from?

for a start..pushing a button is within the capabilities of most people with a..pulse.

Experience comes from practice....you could try pushing the button on your T.V remote until you have it mastered.

I'msure you could be a BIG hope!😛

Weird...I didn't take you for a limp wrister?

Of course there was a Stipe there...just as there was when the Jockey fell off at the Start as I've mentioned...what help would that have made in this instance prey tell?

McGovern has 10+ years from HK...what more do you want?

There was a stipe present at Hokitika last year, when the barriers were numbered arse about face.

Didn't do much good there either.   Are these blokes never acountable?

It's more than a manual malfunction....common-sense seems to be what is seriously lacking, industry - wide.

So Earily asks RIU's Gobder yesterday...

"Don't the clubs employ these Starters and the RIU has responsibility on race day"

Doh...well done Pete...we know you read this site to keep up...

Gobder.."Ahhhh yessss but there's been a long discussion about the RIU taking over the employment of positions like these and Judges etc."

Yes Mick...so WTF has taken you so long?

Its because you don't want to....just be honest for once

And be honest about the fact you didn't even bother telling the Auckland Racing Club...

...the Starters...employed by the ARC...made a major f up in the Derby...

Because you didn't give a f and think Clubs Employ these starters in name only...and have absolutely no control with what they do...

So STILL 2 more weeks for the HOPELESS RIU to carry out a SIMPLE 'Investigation'

Truely woeful  stuff

Wow 1 more week to go...

Are the HOPELESS RIU taking so long...so they can hide the 'Inquiry' into a supplementary list...

...like the Barrier Blanket affair...

Where the Employers of the Starters..,the ARC...

...weren't even notified what happened..by the HOPELESS RIU?

David Greene wants a new Blue Print written...

..is he now regretting being so conciliatory towards the starters...when his horse was found wanting in the Cup...after missing a start?

...yea...obviously

Trevor Harrison

Oh behalf of Brendon (scoots) and myself we sadly advise our racing family that we have both officially resigned from our starting duties for the northern area.

Thank you all for the great times, the support I have received in the past 3 weeks has been incredible.

Scooter, You are the best wing man I’ve had the pleasure of working with, your professionalism was outstanding, you always took pride in yourself and your work and were dam good at your job!
You can hold your head up high and be proud of the job you have done Scoot, you have a beautiful family in which you can spend more time with us plus get out on that boat.

You have grown to be far more than just a mate to me, your family. Thank you for standing by my side through all the highs and lows the past 15 years.

Thank you again, we will miss seeing you all around the track.

Good on them standing by and supporting each other...

Itd be hell of a hard working in a job like that..any job..to go out under a cloud...

The RIU should take a load of blame for letting them continue floating the rules though....

Sometimes employees think they know best...when in fact certain safety rules need to be followed these days...

...however pesky they may be

The Manual states:

6.18 Assistant Starter Prior to the Jump The Assistant Starter shall signal to the Starter that the final runner has been loaded, all gates are closed and a start may be effected.

In the Ellerslie fiasco that did not happen. The assistant starter did not signal to the starter that all horses were in. The starter assumed they were all in and pressed the start button. If the Manual procedures were properly followed this incident would clearly not have happened.

No brainer really.

What sort of "signal"?  The bird or a tap on the nose or a wink wink?

email, text or smoke signals? It doesn't matter.

As long as he advises the starter all the horses are loaded. Then and "Only Then" should the starter press the start button as per 6.18 in the Starters Manual rather than rely on assumption as in this case.
