Star harness duo to leave for USA - with a warning for Australian officials
Lauren and Shane Tritton.

Premiership-winning harness trainers, the husband and wife team of Shane and Lauren Tritton, have issued a dire warning to Australian harness officials as they prepare to relocate their business to America.

The Group I winning duo - known as Team Tritton - announced on Tuesday they will be relocating from their base in Menangle, NSW, to start a new operation in America.

But the premiership-winning team are leaving with a warning for Australian harness racing officials concerning the future of the code in Australia.

"We hope that those in control of harness racing can see they need to do more to make this great sport of harness racing bigger and better, as what it has become in the past decade has lost its viability to support the participants who rely on it," they said.

"We would love to be staying in Australia for the rest of our careers but the reality is the viability of a trainer and driver in harness racing in Australia is too volatile.

"We have tried to stress this to those in charge without any reaction or concern for the issues that every trainer or driver in the country face every week.

"Please take notice those in charge need to do better for everyone in this industry who rely on it to survive.

"This is a sport and should be fun - surviving isn't fun."

The Trittons say many of their owners have chosen to stay with them in their US venture.

And they say business at their Menangle Park stable will continue as usual until their planned departure in May.

The move will see Shane follow his father Peter to America - Peter has been training there for some time.

Tritons should do very nicely in the States, as they know how to train horses over a mile, and Shane’s dad has been over there for a long time to advise.

The thing is that if the Trittons can’t make a decent living then there must be a lot of trainers not making much, just like in NZ.

In oZ it is far easier to place horses and far more opportunities to race.

Wonder what they would like to happen to make it bigger and better.

Easy words to say.

16 horses in for them this week at the 2 Menangle meetings, Lauren drives most unless they're multiple horses in a race and would make more money than most freelance drivers........at a guess they'd have 40 plus horses here in Sydney and are well respected and loved by the punters as their horses are fit and rarely run poor races.

As Brodie said if they cant make a decent living who does, maybe as they're stable is so big,  wages, stabling, insurance overheads etc are too high but at $500 a week traning fees their income would be $10k to $20k a week plus her driving fees and winning %%%..

I have noticed prize money at Menangle isnt constantly as high as a few years back.

Good luck to them, I'm sure it was a very hard decision to make.

Their Metro race wins have been scarce for a while.    Sure , they win Tuesday claimers like today with an 11 yearold.

But take last Saturday night with 18 runners at the Metro meeting and came up with 1 x 2nd and 1 x 3rd.

They are running away as when Shane Triton says this that Chief Stipe quoted:--

What he is REALLY SAYING is " I am struggling to get a City Winner these days"

They would like all the McCarthy's and Craig Cross's to go to the States instead of them, as they are burning them every race now.

Former Kiwis WRANGLER and CASH AND FLOW were 1st and 2nd in 1.48.8 last Sat night. Amazing !!

Triton's 4 runners struggling at the back.
