Boys Get Paid started off with about a $1,000,000 Saturday invested for a large amount of players. The finish total was about 1/2 million , so all the players are refunded half their original stake.

Compulsive gambling/gamblers eventually lose and if it's their own money they're playing with (as opposed to the bank) they're odds-on to go belly up.

This guy did it right - https://www.punters.com.au/news/the-australian-turfs-greatest-betting-plunge-20150318/

In the olden days I would just drive thru and say "tote maintenance"  which wasn't exactly a lie. They got plenty maintenance out of me.

I too had similar excuses for getting  in.  Cup day at Addington when parking was in the middle,  give me a break mate,  we missed the picton  sailing,  we just got here,  these people with me are from Ozzy.  Drive through,  enjoy your day.  Lol

I paid a shilling to get into the Hill enclosure at Ellerslie and noticed those leading horses did not have to pay.

So I offered to lead horses or carry gear and have not paid admittance these past 70 years

I'm sure they could show the 'books' if you like to the TAB bloke taking the bet.

EXAMPLE >>>Say BGP want $100,000 on a horse for 2000 BGP players. thats $500 each. surely the Tab still takes $500 on a gallops meeting? and might as well take it as one bet that piddling around listing the 2000 players one by one ??? can't see a problem with it myself.  great publicity and all.

yeah .. definitely . these small amounts amongst hundreds of people is people having Fun on the horses. nothing to do with money laundering.  BGP small fry in the global scheme of things.

Star Casino in Sydney in real trouble with money Laundering with the HUGE spending Chinese trying to get absolute HUGE bets on , and get the money to China or where-ever. Huge amounts involved and they (Star) were investigated and were stopped trading at one stage last year. but have paid their way out of it somehow. A REAL problem now and going forward..............

no problem with NZ trying to stop money laundering from criminals or like!

However the $1k limit on racing is total BS and the limit needs to be raised to a far higher amount!

Money launderers are not going to waste their time with putting bets on of say$300 to potentially lose it on horse racing!

You are seriously deluded if you think think the AML limit of $1k is not harming the racing industry!

Never have and not going to play their stupid little AML GAME!!!!

I always used to pay to get in. Somehow makes it seem more important if you have to pay to see it.

Admittedly these days I would feel ripped off if I paid to get into most meetings. I would never pay $50 to get into Trentham. I have been to Cup Day twice in recent years and it was incredibly boring with no atmosphere, despite hoards of youngsters.

The legacy of getting older, lots of things lose their shine, same for me.

Speaking of silly little games the only unvaccinated tennis player is starting to come into his own despite having a dodgy hammy, last night he went up several gears, some aussie upstart who is a good player was sent packing, no one is even worried about him from last year being sent home, probably the only thing that will beat him will be that hammy, are their limits on maximum bets on head to heads, im not up with such things.

Personally havent heard of anyone being restricted on Sports Betting but I am sure that if someone was consistently winning on Sports, they would be restricted!

Trying very hard not to comment on the Covid19 BS on BOAY this year as anyone with any intelligence is now aware that the Pfizer so called vaccines have done far more damage than any good, and most were conned by the one that abandoned her team of 4,999,999!

General admission was free on Saturday, and you would not call that a large crowd. The Women's Football at Eden Park attracted probably 4 times as many. NZ's Racing's most costly day after having to subsidise one of NZ's richest by $650k.

It will be interesting this Saturday to see how many turn up at Trentham with $50 general admission.

$50 admission is ridiculous. I've never agreed with admission fees. Let people have free admission and spend their money through the tote. If they do charge a fee, give them a free betting voucher. Punters Clubs may not be everyones cup of tea, but they are a great way of having a bet, knowing you are spending a set amount of money and being part of the day. Go the BGP syndicate.

The $50 could be a way of getting around gambling legislation. By offering a free betting competition with prizes from  sponsors could make the $50 a good bet in itself.

I think the DIA or some similar outfit will reign in the BGP Punters Club just as they did with the jackpots many moons ago. Quite frankly no one wins with the size of the bets. Its bad to see $1/2M lost whilst its bad to see TAB profits drop by $1/2M,

BGP fell into the trap set by TAB. Their advantage would have been pooling information from their members and having a small team thoroughly do research therefore being more knowledgeable than the bookies. Betting in smaller amounts optionally on any races available NZ/AUS on the day.

Correcto Mundo, ever seen a casino charge admission?.......if you've been to the strip on Vegas, most casinos there also offer cheap, great meals and burgers, if you pay for you meal with a chip it's even cheaper, that's how to do it......but you need a gambling culture to do that, just like King James did all those centuries ago when he started horse racing on the Newmarket heath.......when you look back at the person who put the shot boasting about opening a TAB account after the lunatics appointed her, that said everything........

unless they are wearing a patch ?

Ranga, so you believe that money launderers are offloading and risking their dirty money on harness racing gambling to win small amounts???

$1k nowadays is next to nothing and insignificant to any money launderer, they wouldnt waste their time, and yet the NZ TAB is happy to lose big turnover for no gain!!!!

Despite what a few deluded self centred politicians may think New Zealand is such an insignificant country.

Forget about what language we speak, the colour of our skin or what gender we may think we are this week.  Keeping the wolves from the door and making sure the whole family can eat a healthy and wholesome meal each day is going to be a difficult task for most, and I'd say for quite some time.
