For an operation so used to success on these shores, the first two-plus days of the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival proved surprisingly fruitless for Godolphin, trainer Charlie Appleby and jockey William Buick, as Siskany (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) was flat as the heavy favorite in Thursday's GII Belmont Gold Cup, while English Rose (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) was last but one as the pick in Friday's GI New York S. Mischief Magic (Ire) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) was a fair fifth in Saturday's GI Jaipur S. to add insult to injury, but sent away at a fairly generous 3-1 in Saturday's GI Manhattan S., MEASURED TIME (GB) (c, 4, Frankel {GB}–Minidress {GB}, by Street Cry {Ire}) proved the right elixir, as he led virtually every step of the way to best a classy field. Ridden aggressively from gate nine, this year's G1 Jebel Hatta hero–a latest fourth and beaten just over a length in the G1 Dubai Turf–alternated up front with longshot Strong Quality (Quality Road) through sensible fractions to the half-mile. With favored Program Trading (GB) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) stalking him from behind and revving up for a stretch attack, Measured Time cornered wide into the lane, but was kept to task and raced clear to stop the clock in a snappy 1:51.94 for the mile and three-sixteenths on a course that was yielding quick times on the day. “It's been a long three days. I'm in a very fortunate position to be able to come here and ride these horses. I appreciate every moment of it,” winning rider William Buick told Maggie Wolfendale on horseback. Nations Pride (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}), whose lone trip to Saratoga resulted in a 1 3/4-length victory in the 2022 GI Saratoga Derby, closed for second ahead of Far Bridge (English Channel) in third. Saturday, Saratoga Race Course RESORTS WORLD CASINO MANHATTAN S.-GI, $1,000,000, Saratoga, 6-8, 4yo/up, 1 3/16mT, 1:51.94, fm. 1–MEASURED TIME (GB), 124, c, 4, by Frankel (GB) 1st Dam: Minidress (GB) (SP-Eng), by Street Cry (Ire) 2nd Dam: Short Skirt (GB), by Diktat (GB) 3rd Dam: Much Too Risky (GB), by Bustino (GB) O/B-Godolphin (GB); T-Charles Appleby; J-William Buick. $550,000. By Mike Love Waikouaiti trainer Amber Hoffman will make the 300 kilometre trek north to Addington raceway today with a trio of solid chances. Kicking off Hoffman’s chances will be Petite Trixton ($5.50FF) in race 2 the Thank You Sam Taylor Vet trot over 2000 metres. The four year old Trixton mare has had two runs back since a long lay off for two good placings. With her good manners, and a front line draw over the testing 2000 metre distance, Petite Trixton should be in play. A few gear changes on the mare will see the blinds and fixed deafeners come off, while removable deafeners are added. Kerryn Tomlinson will take the drive. “She’s going good, honest races. Hopefully she will be a top four chance,” said Hoffman. Other chances in the event include the Gerard O’Reilly trained and driven My Royal Break ($3.80FF) who will just need to do things right, while the Jason and Ian Thomas runner Bonjour Paris ($6.00FF) is in the market with junior driver Carter Dalgety in the sulky. Trail Boss ($7.50FF) will represent Hoffman in race 8 the Happy 60th Davey Pace over 2600 metres. Blair Orange will take the drive on the four year old Vincent gelding who has won once and placed four times from his 10 career starts. Although they will have their work cut out for them by needing to overcome a draw from the unruly position, in what has the maximum starters, Trail Boss has been racing consistently well, placing in three of his last four outings. The blinds come off Trail Boss for today’s assignment. “He will need to bring his manners from the stand today. If he steps and behaves I expect him to go well.” Other chances in the event include race favourite Sweethomealabama ($2.40FF) for the in form Mark Jones team, with Samantha Ottley to drive, as well as the Gerard O’Reilly trained Resilient ($4.80FF) with Sarah O’Reilly in the sulky who comes in after a solid second placing at their previous start. Rounding out Hoffman’s chances is Cheer Me On ($4.40FF) in race 9 the Woodlands Stud Supporting Our Future Mobile pace over 1980 metres. The four year old He’s Watching mare has not raced since March, however did trial on May 29th at Oamaru. Blair Orange will also take the drive on the mare who has placed twice from eight starts. Drawn two, Cheer Me On will have every opportunity to give a good sight in the lowly rated maiden affair. “Her work has been good. If she tries, she could go a cheeky race.” Other chances include the Brad Mowbray trained pair Okiwi Bay ($7.50FF) for Sheree Tomlinson and Major Cheddar ($21.00FF) for Matthew Williamson, while Ambleside Drive ($4.40FF) for Peter and Mitchel Robertson with Samantha Ottley to drive and My Skatjie ($3.00FF) for Carl Markham and Sarah O’Reilly make up the market favourites. Hoffman to date has trained 140 winners and won over $1.3 million in stakes. Meanwhile, Ashburton reinswoman Sarah O’Reilly is chasing down her 300th career driving victory. O’Reilly has six engagements today, including Noah Magnific ($35.00FF) in race 5, Big Mama Morris ($31.00FF) in race 6, Taumutu Lad ($9.00FF) in race 7, the aforementioned Resilient race 8 and My Skatjie race 9, as well as Amelia Rose ($7.00FF) in race 11. Racing commences from 11:53am. View the full article

National Treasure (c, 4, Quality Road–Treasure, by Medaglia d'Oro) made 6-5 look like a bargain with a front-running, tour-de-force victory in Saturday's GI Hill 'n' Dale Metropolitan H. at Saratoga. Mornington-based apprentice Maiksha Salter returns to scale at Fannie Bay on Saturday after securing victory aboard three-year-old gelding Rhesus for Darwin trainer Phil Cole, Picture: Caroline Camilleri (Fotofinish Racepix) Victorian apprentice Makisha Salter once again tasted success on her return to Darwin’s Fannie Bay on Saturday. In the absence of apprentice Emma Lines, who sits second in the Top End and Country jockeys’ premiership, Salter had a full book of rides on the six-event program for trainer Phil Cole. Salter, sidelined for three months due to injury before returning to action in late May, ended the day with back to back wins with Plague Stone ($4.20) getting home over 1200m (0-64) and Rhesus ($1.95 fav) winning on his Darwin debut in a 1200m maiden. The 23-year-old saluted on Peter Stennett’s The Albion when she made her first trip north last September before returning a fortnight later to win on Chris Nash’s Ideas Man. Based in Mornington, Salter rides for trainers Ash and Amy Yargi – Amy is the sister of Darwin trainer Pat Johnston and that’s how the apprentice, who claims 3kg, ended up in the NT. Plague Stone was a last start winner at Tennant Creek on May 18 and settled third before making his move at the final bend. The eight-year-old gelding, a son of Lonhro, went on with it in the home straight to overcome the 10-year-old Star Of Monsoon ($17), seven lengths adrift of the leader in sixth place at the 600m, by 1.5 lengths and Daniher ($4.80). Rhesus arrived from the James Cumming stable after two seconds at Wyong and Kembla Grange before winning a 900m Darwin trial on May 28 and he was at one stage shortened to $1.65 on Saturday with the top online bookmakers. Settling midfield, the three-year-old gelding continued to make ground down the side before Salter went four deep turning for home and it was all over passing the 100m with the son of Lonhro overcoming a gallant Call It A Loan ($13) by two lengths with Valkur ($7.50) third. Gary Clarke’s Rising Sphere ($3.30 fav), with Jarrod Todd aboard, took out the feature race over 1100m (BM76) when he hit the front at the 900m before downing Star Magnum ($4.20) and Mr Have A Chat ($3.70), who shared the early lead with the winner, by 1.5 lengths. Rising Sphere, a six-year-old gelding by Exosphere, jumped from the inside gate and never left the fence to make five wins and seven minor placings from 16 Fannie Bay starts. Clarke and Todd combined for a winning double when Bel Suono ($2.40 fav) snuck home by a head from Rising Fire ($4.60) over 1300m (0-58) with Roulette Queen ($6) third. Bel Suono, a six-year-old mare by Nicconi, led early after jumping from the outside gate, but had to work hard all the way down the home straight to thwart Rising Fire, who now boasts eight minor placings from 12 Top End starts. After sharing the early lead, Chole Baxter’s Shecanmixit ($2.80 fav), a last start winner in February, edged clear turning for home before apprentice Jade Hampson was able to secure victory by 0.9 lengths from Scudetto ($5.50) and the fast-finishing Capistan ($3.20). For Shecanmixit, a five-year-old mare by Danerich, that’s three wins from five Darwin starts. Horse racing news View the full article

What Canterbury Races Where Canterbury Park Racecourse – King Street, Canterbury NSW 2193 When Monday, June 10, 2024 First Race 12:15pm AEST Visit Dabble Public Holiday racing heads to Canterbury Park Racecourse on Monday afternoon, with a competitive eight-race program set for decision. The rail is in the true position the entire circuit, and with no significant rainfall predicted across the long weekend, the surface should be upgraded to the Soft range prior to the opening event at 12:15pm local time. Check out our best bets and quaddie numbers for June 10 down below. Best Bet at Canterbury: Sharon Drive Sharon Drive has caught the eye at the barrier trials heading into her debut for the Chris Waller barn. The daughter of Zousain was held together in a recent piece of work at Rosehill on May 24, with the two-year-old clicking through the gears comfortably despite the four-length margin. She’s done it all under her own steam so far, so with James McDonald likely to drag back from barrier 13, punters should finally get the chance to witness what Sharon Drive is made of. Best Bet Race 2 – #10 Sharon Drive (13) 2yo Filly | T: Chris Waller | J: James McDonald (56kg) +200 with Neds Next Best: All In The Mind After 488 days off the scene, the Bjorn Baker-trained All In The Mind returns in this wide-open BM72 contest. The Irish Import only had one Australian start last preparation, finishing mid-field at Warwick Farm on February 2 last year. His trials have left a bit to be desired, however, with the five-year-old likely to relish conditions stepping up to the mile first-up, All In The Mind warrants respect at the +700 available with online bookmakers. Next Best Race 5 – #3 All In The Mind (7) 5yo Gelding | T: Bjorn Baker | J: Joshua Parr (60kg) +700 with PlayUp Best Value at Canterbury: Primo Primo had no luck last start at this course and distance on May 29 and is worth forgiving despite the seven-length defeat. The progressive son of Sizzling was three wide without cover the entire journey, unable to get any breather mid-race under Tyler Schiller. Zac Lloyd has the task to get in this time, and although he’s drawn awkwardly again from stall, but provided Primo can get cover throughout, he should be figuring in this. Best Value Race 4 – #10 Primo (15) 4yo Gelding | T: Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes | J: Zac Lloyd (58.5kg) +1200 with Dabble Canterbury quaddie tips – 10/6/2024 Canterbury quadrella selections Monday, June 10, 2024 1-3-7 3-5-8 4-7-11-14-15-16 3-7-11-14 | Copy this bet straight to your betslip Horse racing tips View the full article

COGBURN (h, 5, Not This Time–In a Jif, by Saintly Look) continued his assault on the American turf sprint division with a jaw-dropping, front-running success in the GI Jaipur S., a 'Win and You're In' qualifying race for the GI Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint at Del Mar in early November. And if holding the form he's in currently, he will be a very difficult nut to crack. Drawn eight in a full field for the Jaipur, normally a six-furlong contest downstate, but shortened to 5 1/2 panels to accommodate the layout of the Mellon Turf Course at the Spa, Cogburn was bumped lightly at the break, but split horses to take up the running and was by the opening quarter in :21.33. Still traveling ominously well on the turn, he cornered for home with Irad Ortiz, Jr. high in the saddle, got the opening half in :43.07 and skipped clear in the final furlong, stopping the timer in new course-record time of :59.80. A well-backed 5-2 making his first start since taking an excruciating defeat at the hooves of future G2 UAE Derby winner and GI Kentucky Derby third Forever Young (Jpn) (Real Steel {Jpn}) in the G3 Saudi Derby in late February, Atlantic Six Racing's BOOK'EM DANNO (g, 3, Bucchero–Adorabella, by Ghostzapper) fell into a perfect trip behind a nuclear pace duel and was on the winning end of a photo this time in the GI Woody Stephens S. Drawn the fence for the return to action, the New Jersey-bred settled in midfield, but was well and truly outrun, as GIII Chick Lang S. winner Frost Free (Frosted) and Barksdale (Street Sense) matched motors–and burned each other's out–through an opening quarter-mile in :21.37. Slipped a bit of rein after a half in a merciless :43.08, Book'em Danno made stealthy inside progress, was pulled out three wide and had the first crack at the spent pace duelers. Firmly in front with a furlong and a half to go, he kept on well and managed to just hold off a late run from the comebacking 'TDN Rising Star' Prince of Monaco (Speightstown), who was pinballed around and pinched back at the break and lost nothing in defeat. Nutella Fella (Runhappy), making his first start since winning last year's GI Hopeful S. over the course and distance, spiced up the triple at 20-1. Already one of three stakes winners for the now New York-based Bucchero, Book'em Danno is the stallion's first to succeed at the graded stakes level. 5th-CD, $120k, Msw, 3yo/up, f, 1mT, 2:45p.m. ET MIXOLOGIST (Frosted) will break from the middle of the field in this maiden on the grass, and the LNJ Foxwoods color bearer has big shoes to fill as the half-sister to Australian multiple Group 1-placed Princess Grace (Karakontie {Jpn}). Said sister was a three-time graded winner and three-times Grade I-placed in the States before changing hands for $1.7-million in 2022 at FTKNOV to China Horse Club and being exported to Australia. She twice came a neck short of winning her first race at the highest level in her adopted country last season, once in the G1 Winx S. and again in the G1 Stow Storage Memsie S. Not to be lost on the honor roll is her half-brother Catnip (Kitten's Joy), who is also a graded winner and twice Grade I-placed. Brad Cox will send out the grey. TJCIS PPs 9th-CD, $120k, Msw, 3yo/up, 6f, 4:55p.m. ET Hailing from a family with members who need little introduction, Team Maxfield reassemble to unveil his half-brother MAXWELL (Uncle Mo) Sunday beneath the Twin Spires. His aforementioned half-brother was a two-time Grade I-winner and ran second in Saratoga's GI Whitney S. Maxfield also claimed the GIII Matt Winn S., which will run a race prior to this nightcap. Their dam Velvety is a daughter of 13-time winner MGSW Caress (Storm Cat), who herself produced GISW Sky Mesa (Pulpit) and MGSW & GISP Golden Velvet (Seeking the Gold). That daughter would form a broodmare line which would eventually yield MGISW Matareya (Pioneerof the Nile). This is a very busy, Graded black type-heavy family with several successful sires to its credit. He sits at 5-1 on the morning line. From the rail, Bello (Speightstown) will carry the Kaleem Shah colors to post. The half-brother to SP Appraised (Shanghai Bobby) is out of a half-sister to GISP Realm (Haynesfield) and SW North Freeway (Jump Start), who herself produced SW & GISP Take The One O One (Acclamation). Saturday's session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's June Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training included a son of Lord Nelson (hip 809) who put up the fastest quarter-mile time of the day. Consigned by Omar Ramirez Bloodstock, the colt worked in :20.4 and is the second foal out of Kodiak's Dancer, a half-sister to SP Baby Gray (Precise End). He'll make his third trip through the sales ring next week, having RNA'd at both KEENOV as a weanling for $9,500 and again as a yearling for $8,500 at FTKOCT last year. Seven juveniles shared the session's fastest eighth-mile time, each working in :10. That list includes a daughter of Mitole consigned by Really and Truly Thoroughbreds (hip 702), a son of Vekoma for Majestic Agent (hip 756), a son of Valiant Minister for Wildheart Thoroughbreds (hip 757), a daughter of Maclean's Music consigned by De Meric Sales Agent (hip 783), a Curlin's Honor filly for Two Oaks Equine (hip 832), a filly by Brooks 'n Down consigned by Champions of the Future (hip 835) and a son of Global Campaign for Navas Equine (hip 870). The under-tack show concludes Sunday morning with a final session beginning at 7:30 a.m. The June sale will be held next Wednesday through Friday with bidding starting each day at 10 a.m. The post Lord Nelson Colt Earns Quarter-Mile Bullet At OBS Saturday appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions. Randomized (f, 4, Nyquist–French Passport, by Elusive Quality), a strong second behind Idiomatic (Curlin) in the 2023 GI Breeders' Cup Distaff at Santa Anita, upset last year's champion older mare with a wire-to-wire victory in Saturday's GI Ogden Phipps S. at Saratoga. Second in her comebacker as a heavy favorite in the GII Ruffian S. at the Big A May 4, the 6-1 chance was sent to the front beneath Joel Rosario from her rail draw. Last year's GI Alabama S. winner showed the way throughout and braced for the challenge of Idiomatic while floating wide at the top of the stretch. Randomized had plenty left from there and dug down deep in the stretch to fend off Idiomatic by a nose. It was a long way back to Pretty Mischievous (Into Mischief) in third. Sunday's black-type action is spread across Europe, with Goodwood's Listed Weatherbys/British EBF Agnes Keyser Fillies' S. one of the lesser of its kind in terms of status but possibly the most interesting of all given that it acts as the platform for the second act of TDN Rising Star Sea Just In Time (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}). Sunderland Holdings' homebred impressed on debut at Newmarket's Guineas Festival and holds an entry in the G1 Irish Oaks. “She's taking a while to come to herself and still looks a bit backward in her coat,” William Haggas said. “The race at Newmarket took the stuffing out of her and I've wanted to run her before now to see if she was a Ribblesdale type. We missed those because I wasn't happy with her, but she's fine now. She won't run in the Ribblesdale and we will just see how we go on Sunday, she might not even win on Sunday but hopefully she will run a good race. We will take one step at a time with her.” ParisLongchamp boasts five black-type events, with the pick being the G3 Prix Paul de Moussac where Nurlan Bizakov's winning machine Lazzat (Fr) (Territories {Ire}) goes again. Up to a mile for the first time, the G3 Prix Djebel scorer has to navigate the European Pattern open to geldings and there are a lot of those upcoming. In the G3 La Coupe, Al Shaqab Racing's 2022 Arc fourth Al Hakeem (GB) (Siyouni {Fr}) is on the comeback trail, while the day's other notable race is Hoppegarten's G3 Diana Trial where Gestut Rottgen's unexposed Erle (Ger) (Reliable Man {GB}) is on the path to emulate the 2010 G1 Preis Der Diana victory of her second dam Enora (Ger) (Noverre).
