Not This Time (Giant's Causeway), whose three-time Grade I-winning son Up To the Mark is a leading candidate for the GI Breeders' Cup Turf and Horse of the Year honors, will stand the 2024 breeding season for a fee of $150,000, stands-and-nurses terms, at Taylor Made Stallions. Not This Time stood the 2023 season for $135,000. The sire of 2022 champion 3-year-old male Epicenter, Not This Time has gone from strength to strength this term, and sits in eighth position on the general sire list with better than $10.4 million in progeny earnings. The 9-year-old stallion has been represented by no fewer than a dozen black-type winners in 2023, topped by Up To the Mark, whose top-level scores have come in Churchill's Old Forester Bourbon Turf Classic at nine furlongs, the GI Resorts World Casino Manhattan S. at a mile and a quarter at Belmont Park, and most recently, the Keeneland Turf Mile first off a four-month layoff. Sibelius earned the first top-level success of his career when proving gamest in the G1 Dubai Golden Shaheen in March. He also established a new track record when winning the Pelican S. at Tampa in 1:08.65 for the six furlongs. Not This Time has also been represented by graded winners Next, Arzak, Gigante and Cogburn. As his runners have excelled at the races, so too have his young progeny at public auction. A yearling half-brother to GISW Bell's the One (Majesticperfection) and GSW King Cause (Creative Cause) sold to Jacob West, agent for Robert and Lawana Low, for $1.35 million at Keeneland September and he was represented by another seven-figure horse at Keeneland and a $900,000 yearling at Fasig-Tipton Saratoga. Champion Knicks Go (Paynter), who has his first weanlings of 2023, will stand for $15,000 S&N, while Idol (Curlin)–the full-brother to Eclipse Award winner Nest–and Tacitus (Tapit) will serve mares at $10,000 S&N. With a fee of $85,000, Nyquist (Uncle Mo) will lead the way among a total of 13 stallions who will stand at Darley's Jonabell Farm in 2024, including two new additions in GI winners Cody's Wish (Curlin) and Proxy (Tapit), according to Darley America. Cody's Wish, out of GI winner Dance Card (by Tapit), is expected to make his final start in the GI Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile after winning the race in 2022. A winner of 10 of 15 career starts, Cody's Wish has never finished out of the first three during his career. He heads into the Breeders' Cup boasting additional GI victories in the Met Mile, the Churchill Downs S., and the Forego S. He matched his career-high Beyer of 112 in this year's Met Mile, the same figure he achieved in last year's Forego, which is the co-top Beyer in 2023, along with Echo Zulu (Gun Runner). In addition, his 112 Beyer last year was bettered only by Flightline and future Darley stud mate Speaker's Corner. Proxy is expected to make his next appearance on Breeders' Cup Saturday in the GI Breeders' Cup Classic. By Tapit, he has won or placed in a total of 10 graded stakes, including a victory in the GI Clark S. and was within a nose and a neck of two additional Grade I wins in the Santa Anita H. and the Jockey Club Gold Cup. He is out of multiple GI winner Panty Raid (Include), making him the only son of Tapit out of a multiple Grade I-winning mare. The dam has also produced Grade II winner Micheline, a daughter of Bernardini. Fees for Cody's Wish and Proxy will be announced following the Breeders' Cup. Said Darley Sales Manager Darren Fox, “It's been another fantastic year for our racing program, highlighted by the likes of Grade I winners Cody's Wish and Proxy. Being able to retire six homebred stallions to our ranks over the past three years speaks volumes to the hard work and dedication of our team from top to bottom.” The champion first-crop sire of 2020, Nyquist, who stood for $55,000 in 2023, has had a strong 2023 as the sire of GI Alabama S. winner Randomized, GI Awesome Again S. winner Slow Down Andy, GII Amsterdam S. winner New York Thunder–where he ran a 110 Beyer–and the Royal Ascot-winning two-year-old Crimson Advocate. Randomized and Xigera both head next to the Breeders' Cup Distaff, while Crimson Advocate is expected in the Juvenile Turf Sprint. Medaglia d'Oro (El Prado {Ire})'s stud fee will be $75,000 for 2024, down from $100,000 in 2023. The stallion is North America's leading active sire of worldwide stakes winners with 176. His son Golden Sixty (Aus) is currently the highest-earning horse in training with a bankroll of nearly $19 million. He was the sire of a $1.1 million yearling at Keeneland September, bringing his career total to 55 million-dollar sales horses. Multiple Eclipse champion Essential Quality (Tapit) and dual Grade I winner Maxfield (Street Sense) will stand at fees of $65,000 and $35,000, respectively, next year. Their first foals will sell at Keeneland and Fasig-Tipton next month. Street Sense (Street Cry {Ire})'s fee will be at $60,000, Hard Spun (Danzig)'s at $35,000, while second year stallions Speaker's Corner (Street Sense) and Mystic Guide (Ghostzapper) will stand for $17,500 and $12,500, respectively. The dams of two recent Grade I winners and of a third elite-level scorer heading to the GI Breeders' Cup Distaff are among the latest supplemental entries to The November Sale at Fasig-Tipton. The stakes-winning Toni Tools (Roaring Fever), cataloged as hip 254 and selling with EliTE, is the dam of Candied (Candy Ride {Arg}) who ran her record to two wins from as many starts in the GI Darley Alcibiades S. and heads to California as a leading chance in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Nov. 3. Similarly, 'TDN Rising Star' Muth (Good Magic) will be one of the favorites for the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile on the strength of his impressive victory in the GI American Pharoah S. Oct. 7. His 7-year-old dam Hoppa (Uncle Mo) is back in foal to Good Magic and will be offered by Hill 'n' Dale at Xalapa, agent, as hip 257. Brooklynsway (Giant Gizmo), winner during her racing days of the GIII Doubledogdare S. at Keeneland and earner of nearly $725,000, sells as hip 258 from the Taylor Made draft. The Ontario-bred mare's first foal is Adare Manor (Uncle Mo), who took out this year's GI Clement L. Hirsch S. at Del Mar and is pointing for the Nov. 4 Distaff for trainer Bob Baffert. She is cataloged as hip 258 and is pregnant to Tapit, having produced a full-brother to Adare Manor this past March. Other additions to The November Sale include MSW/MGSP Happy Soul (Runhappy) (hip 253) from Denali Stud; Plum Pretty S. winner One More Kelly (Not This Time) (hip 255) to be sold by Pope McLean, agent; and a weanling colt by leading freshman sire Maximus Mischief (hip 256) that is consigned by Bluewater Sales. Haras de Bouquetot has a classy son of Mehmas (Ire) to look forward to in the stallion ranks for 2024 after announcing that the G2 Gimcrack S. winner Lusail (Ire) will join the roster. Trained by Richard Hannon, Lusail also landed the G2 July S. as a juvenile. He was beaten just a head in the St James's Palace S. as a three-year-old and was also placed in the Prix Jean Prat that same season. He retires to stud aged four and will embark on stallion duties next year as a five-year-old. Hannon heaped praise on the speedster upon his retirement on Monday, and said, “Lusail is a speed car, one of the easiest and most relaxed horses I have ever trained. Showing exceptional quality on courses from 1200m to 1600m, Lusail has an excellent temperament, equal to his talent.” Haras de Bouquetot manager Benoit Jeffroy commented, “We are delighted to welcome a multiple Group-winning two-year-old, precocious and fast, of the quality of Lusail, and to give French breeders the opportunity to access a son of our rising star Mehmas, who also won the July Stakes at two.” He added, “Lusail is a tough and consistent horse, who has also performed at the highest level at three, and whose mother is a sister of a champion sprinter who won a Group 1 at Royal Ascot.” Lusail's stud fee will be announced soon. He will be available for visits at Haras de Bouquetot during the Arqana breeding stock sales. Riccarton trainer Terri Rae will be looking to New Zealand Cup Week with more confidence following the standout performances of Double O’ Seven and promising filly Lunvwar in the feature events at Ashburton on Monday. Classy five-year-old Double O’ Seven claimed the first of the features on the rescheduled card in the McCrea Painters & Decorators Ashburton Cup (1600m), travelling comfortably one-off-the-fence in fourth under Kylie Williams behind a strong tempo set by Ears Back. The Belardo gelding headed the pacemaker alongside tough mare Second Thought and the pair went to battle at the 200m, Double O’ Seven getting the better of Shane Kennedy and Anna Furlong’s charge to the post to score by 1-1/4 lengths. “He went super, he’s a lovely horse,” Rae said. “Kylie rode him super. She’s had two rides on him for two wins and she gets on with him really well.” Bred and part-owned by Brent and Cherry Taylor of Trelawney Stud, Double O’ Seven joined Rae’s stable during the autumn/winter period from Tony Pike’s Cambridge barn and won in his Southern debut at Oamaru in June. “The owners were just looking for a little bit softer company for him down here, he had a spell before he came down and he’s going well,” Rae said. The victory took Double O’ Seven to five wins from 16 starts, and Rae potentially intents to send the gelding straight into the Gr.3 Coupland’s Bakeries Mile (1600m) on the middle day of Cup Week, where he has shortened to $21 with TAB bookmakers. In the following race stablemate Luvnwar recorded an eye-catching third in the Gr.3 Barneswood Farm Stakes (1400m) behind the favoured Te Akau pair in Star of Justice and Viva Vienna. A daughter of War Decree, Luvnwar jumped from barrier eight and was caught awkwardly wide in the early stages, eventually settling fourth-last up to the home turn and produced a huge effort scorching home late to finish just over a length from victor Star of Justice. “She went absolutely super, she got back a little bit with a sticky draw and I think she was about third or fourth last going across the top so she had to shift ground a bit. She made up great ground at the finish and just missed second,” Rae said. “She’s got a Group placing now which is pretty valuable for a filly, and now that she’s over a little bit more ground stepping up from the 1200m suits her as a tall lanky filly.” Luvnwar was rated a $34.50 chance at the jump having recorded a fourth on debut behind Talisker, before claiming a comprehensive maiden victory last month on the Riccarton Synthetic. The three-year-old has now shortened into $18 in the Gr.1 Barneswood Farm 51st 1000 Guineas (1600m), and Rae is taking a similar approach as with the stablemate in possibly heading straight into the fillies’ feature, bypassing the Gr.3 War Decree Stakes (1600m) in a fortnight. “She’ll possibly just go straight into the Guineas from here and that little bit more ground will be good for her as well,” she said. “We might look to run her in the mile (War Decree Stakes) in a couple of weeks, but probably not with the boys in as well.”Rae will be represented by several runners when Ashburton holds their third meeting in a week on Sunday, represented by fellow War Decree filly Sugar and lightly raced four-year-old Guitar Man. Viva Vienna may have been the fancied runner in Monday’s transferred Gr.3 Barneswood Farm Stakes (1400m) at Ashburton, but it was stablemate Star Of Justice who took centre stage when winning the three-year-old feature. The daughter of Justify jumped away well in-between favoured runners Illicit Dreams and Viva Vienna before jockey Darren Danis eased her back into the trail, where she had an economical run throughout. Danis found clear running room three-wide when turning for home and Star Of Justice was able to out tough Viva Vienna in the straight to win by a length, with a long head back to Luvnwar in third. While it wasn’t the result that most expected, trainer Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson were rapt to get the quinella with their pair of fillies. “They both ran really well,” Bergerson said. “The query was always going to be the 1400m with Viva Vienna. She had to use a bit of petrol early and was found wanting late. “Star Of Justice just had a really good run from the barrier, got into a perfect spot, and Darren rode her really well. “She was strong through the line and it looks like the step up to 1600m will be ideal.” Walker was just as pleased with the result. “She’s (Star Of Justice) a filly that keeps improving out of sight,” he said. “Initially, as a two-year-old, she didn’t really show us much, but one day we put blinkers on her at Avondale trials and she improved no end since. “When she had the blinkers on at her second raceday start we saw the same thing, and she won at Riccarton, and just another really good win today. “She was well ridden by Darren, who is underrated and going well at present, and the South Island team is doing an outstanding job. “I think she’ll eat up a mile at Riccarton, absolutely love it, and she’s a filly with a high cruising speed which is really helpful as well.” Star Of Justice will now press on to the Gr.1 Barneswood Farm 1000 Guineas (1600m) at Riccarton next month, however, the race now seems unlikely for Viva Vienna. “The 1400m was probably a bit of a stretch, so we will sit down and have a team talk about Viva Vienna,” Bergerson said. “We haven’t confirmed anything yet, we are just going to see how she pulls up. The track was pretty firm their today.” It was a great day for Te Akau Racing, who recorded a treble, with On The Bubbles and Earlier on the card, Te Akau Racing also scored victories with On The Bubbles and Mehzebeen. “It was a fantastic day,” Bergerson said. “The team is flying down here and I am really thankful for the staff, they are doing a fantastic job and the horses are running great.” View the full article

By Mike Love Burnham trainer Andrew Faulks had a day out yesterday when he trained a double at the Oamaru meeting. “It was good! I’m rapt,” said Faulks. The first of the double came with trotter Lucinda Hest who made her customary good beginning from the outside of the front line to lead for driver Blair Orange. She was able to fight off all challengers, winning by one and a quarter lengths from the Amber Hoffman trained Get Along. “It’s been a while coming for her. Her work had been good going into it. Hopefully she can just go on with it.” “The owners Colin and Shirley Campbell from Dunedin have been great. Been in the game a longtime. It’s good to get a win for them. I encouraged them to breed this one. The mother (Nordic Sun) is a half sister to Leighton Hest who was by Dream Vacation. So we were hoping for something good! “We will just keep going and find suitable races for her.” Later in the day, Winnzyback made it three wins from six starts when he won the Stephen Heffernan At Property Brokers Mobile Pace. Winnzyback was restrained at the start by driver Blair Orange before a mid race move to lead from the 1000m, fighting hard to hold off runner up Dance With The Boss for trainer Matt Purvis. “He doesn’t do much at home but he sparks up when we get to the trials or races. “Blair said he’s still pretty dumb, and wants to hang and run about a bit, but at least he wants to find the line, so that’s a pretty good attribute to have for a racehorse!” “Hopefully we can find a race for him on Cup day and give something for the owners to come up and have a day out.” Faulks trains a team of 12 from his Burnham base, half of which are young ones. In addition to the Faulks and Orange double, Mark and Nathan Purdon trained a double with warm favourites We Walk By Faith driven by Devon van Til and Mon Lancome driven by Olivia Thornley, while Graeme Telfer drove his first winner in seven years when he drove Hanover Da Moon to victory in Race 8. He also trains the horse. View the full article

What Kensington Races Where Royal Randwick Racecourse – Alison Rd, Randwick NSW 2031 When Wednesday, October 18, 2023 First Race 1:55pm AEDT Visit Dabble Metropolitan racing will head to Royal Randwick on Wednesday, as the Kensington circuit is utilized for seven races throughout the afternoon. The radar suggests there could be some showers hitting the course leading into race day, so we’ll be keeping a watchful eye on a possible downgrade into the Soft range. The rail is in the true position as the opening race gets underway at 1:55pm AEDT. Best Bet at Randwick-Kensington: Schwarz It was hard not to be impressed with the debut of Schwarz at Gosford on October 5, as the son of Zoustar went on to score by 3.4 lengths. He made every post a winner, showing plenty of class to scoot clear of his rivals in maiden company. The stable has shown confidence to install him into BM72 grade second-up, and with a favourable pattern to be ridden on-speed by Tommy Berry, we’re confident Schwarz can make the leap into metro class to score back-to-back wins. Best Bet Race 6 – #10 Schwarz (1) 3yo Colt | T: John O’Shea | J: Tommy Berry (54kg) Bet with Boombet Next Best at Randwick-Kensington: Rhythm Of Love Rhythm Of Love has had a terrific campaign for the John O’Shea barn and is unfortunate to only have one win across his three starts. He broke his maiden status at Kembla Grange on September 9 before suffering narrow defeats at Warwick Farm and Randwick (Kensington) respectively. His upside is clear to see as he chased home the in-form Body Bob on October 4, just missing out on a day where it was difficult to make ground. He draws (1) to find the leaders back on Wednesday, and with some luck getting off the rail Rhythm Of Love can chalk up his second-career win. Next Best Race 3 – #1 Rhythm Of Love (1) 3yo Gelding | T: John O’Shea | J: Tyler Schiller (61kg) Bet with Betfair Next Best Again at Randwick-Kensington: Keenan Keenan has performed admirably for the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott so far with two minor placings to his name in as many starts. He was a non-factor at Wyong on debut as Dark Halo smashed his rivals; however, took massive improvement second-up at Warwick Farm challenging Need Some Luck all the way to the wire. He showed some toughness on that occasion, and now finds a race where he can cross to lead under his own steam for Tim Clark. Keenan will give a bold sight here for a stable that is simply flying. Mark Corcoran savoured a top-flight victory on the racetrack at Hastings and a few hours later the Grangewilliam Stud co-principal had further cause to celebrate. Farm graduate Ladies Man, a son of resident stallion Zed, claimed top honours in the Gr.1 Livamol Classic (2040m) and a half-brother to the Gr.1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) contender was subsequently welcomed at the Waitotara nursery. “It was a brilliant day and a great result for Zed to get another Group One winner,” said Corcoran, who operates Grangewilliam with wife Jane. Ladies Man is out of the Australian-bred Dehere mare Just Polite, who won eight races including the Gr.3 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) and is also the dam of the Gr.1 Auckland Cup (3200m) winner Ladies First. “Bernie Myers kindly gifted the mare to me a few years ago and honestly the mare is just amazing,” Corcoran said. “She’s 24 now and last year foaled a Zed colt and he is a cracking type, often old mares leave little fine-boned foals, but he is a beauty and you wouldn’t see a better colt on the farm. “She got straight back in foal first pop last September and foaled a colt by The Bold One a couple of hours after Ladies Man won the race. “She’s just a mare that keeps herself in amazing condition and has a great constitution. I’m not sure what we’ll do now, I’ll have a think about it and maybe retire her.” The Allan Sharrock-trained Ladies Man will now bid to continue Grangewilliam’s proud association with the Melbourne Cup. “We’ve had two winners of the Cup off the farm with Doriemus and Verry Elleegant and they also won Caulfield Cups (Gr.1, 2400m), as did Silver Bounty,” Corcoran said. “You never know, we might get another one, so it’s pretty exciting.” Zed heads the Grangewilliam roster and Corcoran continues to be pleased with the response from breeders to the son of Zabeel. “He’s really well and his fertility is still fantastic. I reckon he’ll serve around 50 mares this year, he served 60 last season so he won’t be too far short of that,” he said. Associate stallions The Bold One, by Fastnet Rock, and Hinchinbrook’s son Derryn are also making their presences felt. “The Bold One is going really well and obviously Bold Mac (Listed Rowley Mile winner) is flying the flag in Australia and Robbie Patterson has got a great line-up of them,” Corcoran said. “The Fearless One, One Bold Cat and Mary Louise are all exciting gallopers and I think The Bold One and Derryn will have very good seasons.” Derryn’s progeny is headed by the Listed Castletown Stakes (1200m) Sophmaze, Gr.1 New Zealand Oaks (2400m) placegetter Mischief Managed and black type performer Channel Surfer. He will also have an exciting representative in Melbourne following the sale of his three-year-old daughter Matawai. She was successful at the first time of asking earlier this month at Taupo where she accounted for subsequent winner and Gr.1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas (1600m) contender Mary Shan. Matawai was prepared at Matamata by Darryn and Briar Weatherley and was subsequently purchased by clients of Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr’s Cranbourne stable. View the full article

Grey gelding Chattahoochee has been a stable favourite for trainer Debbie Sweeney for some time and he is quickly taking the mantle as the stable star as well. At Hastings on Saturday the son of Reliable Man recorded his fourth win from his last five starts in the Tumu Supplies Premier (1600m), and Sweeney believes there are plenty more wins left in the five-year-old. “It was very impressive considering he drew barrier 12 and he was three-wide the whole way. It was a tough effort,” Sweeney said. “Chattahoochee is like the stable pet. He is just a lovely, quiet and relaxed horse – everyone loves him. He is very spoilt and that was even before he was fast. “He has won four from five now, so he has been very impressive. He has been very adaptable, and I think he is a horse that has a lot of ability. Hopefully he can carry on with it.” Chattahoochee will now head for a well-deserved break before being set for some loftier autumn targets. “We are going to turn him out for four to six weeks now and then get him back up and going around early March,” Sweeney said. “We’ll possibly look at the Easter Handicap (G.3, 1600m) and there are some nice races over the Carnival at Ellerslie, so we will try and target some bigger races.” Sweeney has swiftly turned her attention to racing this week where she will line-up a handful of runners. “I have got a couple at Tauranga on Wednesday – Kiwi Man and Mr Nice,” she said. “Kiwi Man showed a fair bit of promise last year and is a staying horse. He is going over a mile on Wednesday and once he gets over ground I think he will be a horse to keep an eye on. “Clever Ruds is lining up on Saturday (at Te Rapa). She is very honest and tries really hard. She ran second last time at Hastings. Hopefully we can get some black-type with her this time around. She has shown enough.” View the full article

Star Of Justice winning at Ashburton on Monday. Photo: Race Images South Viva Vienna may have been the fancied runner in Monday’s transferred Group 3 Barneswood Farm Stakes (1400m) at Ashburton, but it was stablemate Star Of Justice who took centre stage when winning the three-year-old feature. “I think she’ll eat up a mile at Riccarton, absolutely love it, and she’s a filly with a high cruising speed which is really helpful as well.” Star Of Justice will now press on to the Group 1 1000 Guineas (1600m) at Riccarton next month, however, the race now seems unlikely for Viva Vienna. “The 1400m was probably a bit of a stretch, so we will sit down and have a team talk about Viva Vienna,” Bergerson said. “We haven’t confirmed anything yet, we are just going to see how she pulls up. The track was pretty firm their today.” Earlier on the card, Te Akau Racing also scored victories with On The Bubbles and Mehzebeen. “It was a fantastic day,” Bergerson said. “The team is flying down here and I am really thankful for the staff, they are doing a fantastic job and the horses are running great.” More horse racing news View the full article

Chattahoochee winning at Hastings on Saturday. Photo: Peter Rubery (Race Images Palmerston North) In the stables of trainer Debbie Sweeney, the grey gelding Chattahoochee has solidified his position as a favourite, emerging as the stable’s star performer. Sweeney expressed her delight after Chattahoochee secured his fourth victory in his last five races at Hastings on Saturday. Despite the challenges posed by drawing barrier 12 and maintaining a three-wide position throughout the race, Chattahoochee’s performance was commendable. Sweeney, who holds a special fondness for the horse, described him as the stable pet—a lovely, quiet, and relaxed individual who has captured the affection of everyone around. Reflecting on Chattahoochee’s recent success, Sweeney highlighted his adaptability and evident ability, expressing optimism about his future performances. The five-year-old will now enjoy a well-deserved break before gearing up for ambitious targets in the upcoming autumn season. “We are going to turn him out for four to six weeks now and then get him back up and going around early March,” Sweeney stated. “We’ll possibly look at the Easter Handicap (Group 3, 1600m) and there are some nice races over the Carnival at Ellerslie, so we will try and target some bigger races.” Looking ahead to the current racing week, Sweeney has directed her attention to her other runners. “I have got a couple at Tauranga on Wednesday – Kiwi Man and Mr Nice.” Kiwi Man, a staying horse, displayed promise in the past year and is set to compete over a mile. Sweeney sees potential in him, especially as he tackles longer distances. “Clever Ruds is lining up on Saturday (at Te Rapa),” Sweeney added. “She is very honest and tries really hard. She ran second last time at Hastings. Hopefully, we can get some black-type with her this time around. She has shown enough.” More horse racing news View the full article

What Happy Valley Races Where Happy Valley Racecourse – Wong Nai Chung Rd, Happy Valley, Hong Kong When Wednesday, October 18, 2023 First Race 6:45pm HKT (9:45pm AEDT) Visit Dabble Hong Kong racing heads back to Happy Valley Racecourse on Wednesday evening for a ultra-competitive nine-race program under lights. The rail is in the B position for the meeting, and with rain predicted for race day, we expect a major possibility of a yielding surface. The first race is scheduled to get underway at 6:45pm HKT (9:45pm AEDT). Best Bet at Happy Valley: Savvy Delight Savvy Delight will make his way to Happy Valley on the one-week backup after closing strong at this course and distance last Wednesday evening. The son of Exceed And Excel powered through the line for Hugh Bowman after jagging back from barrier nine. He closed off impressively but was simply no match for Happy Day who produced a career peak to score. We’re confident the form will stack up nicely in this Class 4 contest, and with a much more positive map from barrier four, Savvy Delight should prove hard to beat under Brenton Avdulla this time. Best Bet Race 2 – #4 Savvy Delight (4) 5yo Gelding | T: John Size | J: Brenton Avdulla (60.5kg) Bet with Bet365 Next Best at Happy Valley: Romantic Laos Romantic Laos was a dominant winner on seasonal return for new trainer Cody Mo on October 4, and we can’t see why the five-year-old gelding can’t make it back-to-back successes. He cleared out on his rivals to score by 1.3 lengths on that occasion, and Purton seemingly had a lapful of horse underneath him as he crossed the wire. He does cop a 3.5kg penalty in the weights for his trouble, but with a lovely run in transit from barrier two, Romantic Laos may just prove too classy again. Next Best Race 7 – #2 Romantic Laos (2) 5yo Gelding | T: Cody Mo | J: Zac Purton (58.5kg) Bet with Betfair Next Best Again at Happy Valley: Wonder Kit Wonder Kit was a shade disappointing first-up chasing home race rival O’liner at this course and distance on September 27. He got every chance to salute under Vincent Ho but just didn’t let down with his customary turn-of-foot. We’re willing to forgive the son of Sooboog and put it down to a lack of race-day fitness on return. He gets barrier one and Zac Purton this time, and with plenty of speed engaged in this event, we expect Wonder Kit to blouse his rivals in the penultimate race of the program. Odds Bookmakers News Field Past Winners Callander-Presnell Group Two Betting Guide Date: Saturday, October 28, 2023 Location: Randwick Racecourse – Sydney, New South Wales Prize Money: $1,000,000 Distance: 1600m The Callander-Presnell is a Group 2 race that is held at Randwick Racecourse, run under Set Weights conditions for three-year-olds and boasts a $1,000,000 prize pool. This race used to be known as the Stan Fox Stakes; however, the race was renamed to the Callander-Presnell in 2022 to recognise the contributions that both Ken Callander and Max Presnell have made to racing. The inaugural edition of the Stan Fox Stakes was classified as a Principal Race until 1984 before it was upgraded to a Listed race from 1985 to 1988. From 1989 until 1995, the race was classified as a Group 3 contest but was upgraded to Group 2 level from 1996 onwards. With the Callander-Presnall now run over 1600m, it will turn out to be a second target race for three-year-olds if they happen to miss or run well (without winning) in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas two weeks earlier. Notable winners of the Callander-Presnell include Golden Mile (2022), Peltzer (2020), Impending (2016), Press Statement (2015), Shooting To Win (2014), Denman (2009), Paratroopers (2005), Lonhro (2001), Octagonal (1995) and Show County (1989). Both Prime Star (+270) and Master Delight (+320) ran home well into second and third, respectively. 2019: Colada cause boilover in Stan Fox Stakes After being sent out as the second roughest runner in the race, the Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou-trained Colada (+1900) has led all the way and caused a boilover in the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes at Randwick.
