She's the queen of turf speed at Saratoga and it's her summer we get to witness. Future Is Now (Great Notion) has now claimed seven wins from her last nine starts with a sparkling defense of her title in the Listed Smart And Fancy Stakes Friday afternoon. Not off the board since mid-May of last year, the Great Notion mare has taken home the hardware in four graded races and hit the board in two others. Her last start July 19 at this venue was a half-length victory in the GIII Caress Stakes. Her only defeat in 2025 thus far was a runner-up effort in the GII Intercontinental Stakes by that same margin. Quick from the blocks but with Twirling Queen (Twirling Candy) outsprinting her for the lead, the 4-5 favorite stalked to the outside of that rival as an opening quarter in :22.56 was posted and they swung into the stretch behind a four-furlong split in :45.40 with Future Is Now in firm command. Dontlookbackatall (Peace and Justice) tried to make it a race late but the betting choice was too much as she strolled home to win by 1 1/2 lengths. Returning Ellen Jay (Constitution) came on late to claim third. Benedetta (City of Light), who was pulled up in the stretch, was walked onto the equine ambulance after being hosed and iced down. “No objections, no inquiries, so all good,” said winning trainer Michael Trombetta. “It was a nice trip. I think she broke well. [Jockey] Paco [Lopez] wasn't sure how things were going to unfold in the paddock and quite honestly nor was I. He just figured he'd play it the way it breaks and fortunately she broke well, rated kindly and ran when he asked her to.” When asked about a title defense in the GII Franklin Stakes Oct. 12 at Keeneland, Trombetta replied, “We hope so. That's always been the goal is to get there in the fall. We'll take her back to Fair Hill, let her unwind a little bit and get ready for what's next. Jockey Luis Rivera, Jr. was transported to Saratoga Hospital after his mount in Friday's eighth race at Saratoga, Rock Harbor (Exaggerator), fell inside the final furlong of the one-mile claiming event over the inner turf course. Rivera was sent for evaluation of his left leg and hip, according to a release from the New York Racing Association's Patrick McKenna. Rock Harbor walked onto the waiting equine ambulance with assistance and was taken to Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital for further examination. Daily Racing Form's David Grening later reported that trainer Jimmy Ferraro indicated that there appeared to be no bone breaks and that she might have suffered a soft-tissue injury. In the same race, Bunny Honey (Demarchelier {GB}), who had drawn in from the also-eligible list, was pulled up by Joel Rosario, who reported that the horse was 'not travelling well.' NYRA veterinarians who responded found no signs of injury initially. Bunny Honey was also transported by equine ambulance to the barn area for further evaluation. SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – When the horse who became known as Barnes (Into Mischief) came into the barn of Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert a couple years ago, there was hype. That happens when the price tag he brought at the 2023 Fasig-Tipton Select Yearling Sale read $3.2 million. And to make things even more interesting, the horse was named for Jimmy Barnes, Baffert's long-time assistant. “Oh, that pressure is gone,” Baffert said with a laugh by phone from his summer base at Del Mar. Big things were expected from Barnes, who has a so-so record of two wins and a second in four career starts. Barnes will come to the races next Saturday when he makes his first appearance since a disappointing fifth (and last) finish in the GI Santa Anita Derby on April 5. The top two finishers in that race were Journalism (Curlin) and Baeza (McKinzie). Barnes is one of three–maybe four–3-year-olds that Baffert is hoping to run in the $500,000 GI H. Allen Jerkens Memorial Stakes on Travers Day. In his first start this year, Barnes sizzled, winning the seven-furlong GII San Vicente Stakes by 5 1/2 lengths. In his last two races, he was beaten by Journalism, first in the GII San Felipe and then in the flop in the Santa Anita Derby, where he was defeated by 19 3/4 lengths. Barnes is owned by Zedan Racing Stable. “When we stretched him out, he just lost his form, lost some weight,” Baffert said. “I have him back to where he was now, and he is training extremely well. He is a really good horse, and he is ready for something like this.” Barnes worked four furlongs in :48 (118/93) at Del Mar on Friday. Baffert is also planning on running Madaket Road (Quality Road), owned by SF Racing, Madaket Stablew LLC, Dianne Bashor, Determined Stables, Robert Masterson, Tom Ryan, Waves Edge Capital and Catherine Donovan and 'TDN Rising Star' Midland Money (Shancelot), owned by Edward Childs. Madaket Road worked six furlongs in 1:11.40 (1/4) at Del Mar on Monday. Midland Money, who won a six-furlong allowance at Saratoga on Aug. 3, worked four furlongs in :48.83 (6/12) here on Tuesday. The other Baffert horse under consideration for the Jerkens–Gaming (Game Winner), owned by Michael Pegram Karl Watson and Paul Weitman–worked five furlongs in 1:01.40 (21/45) at Del Mar on Friday. Looks Like Bracket Buster Will Head to Saratoga for Travers The field for next Saturday's $1.25-million GI Travers Stakes is not going to be a big one–the looming presence of Godolphin's Sovereignty (Into Mischief) will ensure that. With entries scheduled to be taken for the Midsummer Derby on Sunday, it appears that only four others will take on the GI Kentucky Derby, GI Belmont Stakes and GII Jim Dandy Stakes winner. Bracket Buster | Taylor Ejdys/Equi-Photo One of those challengers will likely be Bracket Buster (Vekoma), who was last seen finishing fourth in the GI Haskell Stakes at Monmouth Park on July 19. Owned by BBN Racing LLC, Bracket Buster is trained by Vicki Oliver. Bracket Buster worked four furlongs in :47.80 (9/32) at Keeneland on Friday. Oliver said she has also looked at the seven-furlong $500,000 Robert Hilton Memorial at Charles Town on Aug. 22. She said she could cross-enter in both races. Oliver said she would likely head to Charles Town if the Travers somehow drew a field of nine, which is highly unlikely. “(The New York Racing Association) would like me to come to fill their field out,” Oliver said by phone from her Keeneland base Friday. “They would want us, and I don't blame them. If (Sovereignty) shows up, none of us can beat him, we all know that. I'm not scared. This is racing.” Bracket Buster finished eight lengths behind Journalism (Curlin) in the Haskell. Gosger (Nyquist) and Goal Oriented (Not This Time) also finished in front of him. “He did not have the greatest trip in the Haskell,” Oliver said. “He fought on hard to be fourth and the horses that beat him are three of the top 3-year-old horses in the country.” Bracket Buster has started four times this year and has one win (Pegasus Stakes at Monmouth on June 14) and a second. If he comes to the Travers, Oliver said he would ship on Tuesday. “Things can happen in a horse race, horses can stumble at the break,” Oliver said. “My horse could stumble, Sovereignty could stumble. You can't win it unless you're in it. Longshot Honorable Miss Champ Back for More It was a sloppy track at Saratoga nearly four weeks ago. On Sunday, July 20, 4-year-old filly Halina's Forte (Mitole) opened some eyeballs when she won the GII Honorable Miss at the juicy odds of 24-1. Trainer Phil Bauer is bringing her back for the $500,000 GI Ballerina Stakes on Travers Day. He'll see if the Honorable Miss was a fluke for the Rigney Racing LLC runner. He is thinking it will not be. “You have to give her credit,” Bauer said outside his barn on the Oklahoma Training Track. “She moved forward as a 4-year-old. Can she take another step forward? She is going to have to if she wants to win this heat.” Halina's Forte | Coglianese In the Honorable Miss, maybe Halina's Forte had everything going for her. It was her third time on an off track, and it produced her second win. “She ran a monster race, regardless, and beat a lot of the ones that are coming to run back in this one,” Bauer said. Even though Halina's Forte had leading rider Irad Ortiz, Jr. on her back in the Honorable Miss, she went off as the second-longest price in the eight-horse field. Part of the reason for that was her first race of the season. Halina's Forte began the year with a second-place finish in the Prairie Rose Stakes at Prairie Meadows on June 6. Shes Perfect, demoted to second in the G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches earlier this season, has not completely healed from her July setback and will be rested the remainder of the year, according to Basher Watts who heads her ownership syndicate. The daughter of Sioux Nation, a debut winner at Haydock in two starts last term, was second in the April's G3 Prix de la Grotte to Zarigana (Siyouni), who benefitted from Shes Perfect's disqualification in the Pouliches. The Charlie Fellowes trainee, who is nicknamed Sue, was most recently ninth in the G1 Prix de Diane. Watts released a statement on X on Friday that said, “Unfortunately we won't see Sue again on a racecourse in 2025, the area of concern did show further signs of worry, so we've taken the decision to have the rest of the year off. She's absolutely fine and this will not affect her career moving forward. One of two British-trained horses in the G1 Yorkshire Oaks after declarations on Friday, Estrange (Night Of Thunder) and her team are hopeful that some rain will increase her chances in the August 21 showpiece. A homebred for Cheveley Park Stud and trained by David O'Meara, the grey has won four of her five starts, with a victory in the G2 Lancashire Oaks last out at Haydock in July on her resume. “It depends which forecast you look at, and I am probably guilty of looking at the one I want to look at rather than the one I don't,” said Cheveley Park's managing director Chris Richardson on the chance of rain at York. “But she's very well, a bit of ease in the ground would be helpful. She's working well but this just happens to be a year of fast ground. We're working back from the autumn so we will see how we go and how we plan from here on out. “If she can't run then there are some entries abroad we can look at, she's in the [G1] Fillies & Mares [on Champions Day at Ascot] and obviously the Arc later in the year.” Aidan O'Brien and the Coolmore partners have kept a fearsome quartet in the race in G1 Oaks one-two Minnie Hauk (Frankel) and Whirl (Wootton Bassett), as well as multiple group winner and G1 Prix de Diane second Bedtime Story (Frankel) and G2 Ribblesdale Stakes heroine Garden Of Eden (Saxon Warrior). Fellow Group 2 winner Qilin Queen (Pinatubo), trained by Ed Walker, will also take part at this stage. Who's the current leader of the 3-year-old filly division? Featuring a rubber match between GI Kentucky Oaks heroine Good Cheer (Medaglia d'Oro) and two-time GISW La Cara (Street Sense), we'll have our answer following a fantastic renewal of Saturday's GI Alabama S. at Saratoga. Good Cheer made it a perfect seven-for-seven for trainer Brad Cox with a powerful win on the first Friday in May, but never factored as the 1-4 favorite, finishing a lackluster fifth in the GI Acorn S. in the Saratoga slop June 6. The Godolphin homebred, listed as the 8-5 morning-line favorite, will face five rivals in the 1 1/4-mile feature. “She's doing great,” said Blake Cox, assistant trainer to his father. “She was perfect until the Acorn and we can't really come up with an excuse–maybe the racetrack, I guess, but you could tell she wasn't traveling well throughout the race, so we'll give her one more shot here going a mile and a quarter. She should like it, and we've given her plenty of time. She's done well up here, so fingers crossed we get her back in the win column.” They'll all have to catch La Cara. The aforementioned Acorn was won in front-running fashion by the Tracy Farmer homebred, who also wired the GI Central Bank Ashland S. at Keeneland Apr. 7. Those two efforts bookended a speed-and-fade ninth-place finish behind Good Cheer in the Kentucky Oaks. La Cara | Sarah Andrew Hall of Famer Mark Casse will also saddle Nitrogen (Medaglia d'Oro). TORONTO – He is young, just 20, has been riding for only two full years and still has his five-pound apprentice allowance. But don't expect Pietro Moran to be intimidated when he climbs aboard Mansetti (Collected) in Saturday's $1-million King's Plate at Woodbine. It's nothing new to him. Though he's not allowed an apprentice allowance in stakes races, he's ridden in 30 so far this year. On Saturday's card, there are six stakes. Moran has mounts in four of them. “I definitely have a lot of confidence in him,” said Mansetti's trainer Kevin Attard. “Pietro worked for us for maybe three years before he took out his license. So I got a chance to know him pretty well. From day one, he's shown a lot of confidence. He's very mature for his age and just a very good student of the game.” Moran is the son of journeyman rider David Moran, who also has a mount in the race, on William T (Frosted). It is the first time that a father and son have ridden against one another in the King's Plate. It will be the second King's Plate mount for Pietro, who finished fourth last year with Pierre (Tapiture). “My dad has been a huge influence on me,” Pietro said. “Just to grow up alongside him, he's been helping me and guiding me every step of the way and points me in the right direction. He's never allowed me to put a bad step forward. I'm very lucky to have my dad's help. We are both competitive. We want to kick each other's butt every time.” Pietro always wanted to be a jockey. “I probably couldn't even talk yet to tell everybody I wanted to be a jockey,” he said. “That's how long I've wanted to be a rider. I always wanted to be a jockey. I've always loved the horses and loved the game.” Moran started riding in 2023 and won just four races that year. He was in the midst of a successful season last year when he was injured at Fort Erie on Sept. 10. He had 62 wins at the time. It was a precursor of what was to become. Entering Friday's card at Woodbine, he led all jockeys with 65 wins. Rafael Hernandez and Sahin Civaci were tied for second with 57 winners each. 'We've ridden him a lot and have been successful together,” Attard said. “It's been a good relationship and he's a great individual.” Most Ontario-based trainers would agree. Leading trainer Mark Casse has teamed up with Moran for five winners. In Saturday's stakes Moran will have mounts for Attard and Martin Drexler and two for Casse. He's getting the kind of opportunities that are almost unheard of for an apprentice. “I've had a lot of good opportunities,” Moran said. “I'm very thankful for all the opportunities I'm getting to not only ride a lot of races but to ride in stakes races. It just goes to show that trainers are okay with using me. I try to work hard every day and do my best and I'm being rewarded with the opportunity to ride in these big races.” Moran has set four goals for this year. He will be the champion Canadian apprentice and he also hopes to win an Eclipse Award as the top bug boy in North America and finish the year as the leading jockey in the Woodbine standings. All three are within reach. The fourth is to win the King's Plate. The King's Plate is a wide-open race that drew 13 entrants. Mansetti, who is 10-1 in the morning line, is coming off a win in the GIII Marine Stakes and has won two other stakes. “The biggest question for him is the mile-and-a-quarter, but he's got a lot of talent,” Moran said. “He's the only three times stakes winner in the field and the only graded stakes winner in the race. Once he gets a clean trip and is able to settle, he'll give it his best to the wire.” Moran, who loses his bug on Jan. 6, has yet to decide where he will ride this winter after the Woodbine meet is over. Many believe that he is destined to become a top rider in the U.S. 'I would definitely love to ride in the States and try to become one of those big-name riders that go around the country and ride the best horses and ride in Group Is,” he said. A win in the King's Plate might move him closer to the goal, but there will be plenty of other opportunities along the way. Kazushi Kimura took a similar path, dominating while he had the bug and winning the Woodbine riding title in 2021, 2022 and 2023. He is now a regular on the Southern California circuit. Three-time Group 1 winner Rosallion has been withdrawn from the G1 The Aga Khan Studs Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville on Sunday with a bruised foot, according to trainer Richard Hannon. The G1 City Of York Stakes is next on the docket for the colt on August 23. Owned by Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum, the son of Blue Point won the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at two and added the Irish 2000 Guineas and St James's Palace Stakes at three. He has been tantalisingly close to added more top-drawer hardware to his trophy case at four and is coming off of a neck second in the G1 Sussex Stakes on July 30. In a post on X, Hannon said, “Unfortunately, we have decided to pull Rosallion out of the Prix Jaques le Marois on Sunday. He has a bruised foot that he picked up in training this week which has been treated but we aren't completely happy and feel it only right to give him the extra days. “This means we won't make the trip over to France but will instead head to York. ETOBICOKE, ONTARIO — There are those that will often lament the things that are wrong with horse racing. However, a stroll around Woodbine's ever-expanding facilities go a long way in dispensing with some of those notions. The opening of the Great Canadian Casino-Resort has ushered in a next-level racetrack experience offering rooms with panoramic views of Woodbines expansive E.P. Taylor racecourse while proving all the services and amenities that one might expect at a modern Casino hotel. If one enjoys racing and a myriad of gaming products with a wide variety of dining options all under one roof, then Woodbine offers a definite attraction. However, the real charm of the Canadian racetrack is the people that make it all happen. The folks on the backstretch at Woodbine are as accommodating as one could ever expect to encounter anywhere in North America, with the local horse community offering a level of friendliness that is supremely warm and welcoming to visitors. Palpably proud of their home track, the Woodbine community eagerly shares its pride in its home base and paramount appreciation of the Canadian heritage and for others, an adoptive nation. Offering a good reason to wave the Canadian flag proudly this weekend, Woodbine offers a stacked King's Plate Day card, featuring six stakes–highlighted by the first jewel in the Canadian Triple Crown as well as the GI E. P. Taylor Stakes. The 13-race card also features the GII King Edward Stakes and the GIII Bold Venture Stakes. No Time, No Problem Often considered the exception rather than the rule when a filly contests a U.S. Classic, it appears to have become somewhat more commonplace looking at the history of Canada's equivalent. When a field of 13 lines up for Saturday's King's Plate, a filly will once again be the headline–Woodbine Oaks heroine No Time (Not This Time). Over the course of the last 15 years, a filly has won the 1 1/4-mile Classic six times, and one has to only look as far back as last year to see its latest female winner, Caitlinhergrtness (Omaha Beach), trained by Kevin Attard. In fact, Attard has trained the past two fillies to win the Plate, having also taken the 2022 renewal with Moira (Ghostzapper). Trainer Mark Casse, who recorded his initial Plate victory with a filly, Lexilou (Sligo Bay), in 2014 and followed up with another filly, Wonder Gadot, in 2018. A fixture in both the U.S. and Canadian Halls of Fame, Casse was also responsible for the 2023 King's Plate winner Paramount Prince in the initial year that the race was renamed due to the ascension of the new monarch, King Charles III. “She was awesome in the [Woodbine] Oaks,” said Casse of the Gary Barber-owned filly. “She is going to enjoy the extra distance and will be tough.” Bred by James Everatt, Janeane Everatt and Arika Everatt-Meeuse, the Ontario-bred filly is out of SW and GSP Count to Three (Red Ransom). Promoted to third in last fall's Cup and Saucer Stakes, No Time won her second start of 2025 when taking a June 1 allowance optional claimer at Woodbine before finishing fourth in the GIII Selene Stakes June 28. The $250,000 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale graduate is a half-sister to dual Grade I scorer and millionaire Count Again (Awesome Again) in addition to Grade I-winning sprinter Ransom the Moon (Malibu Moon). “She has a heck of a pedigree,” said Casse. “She's by one of the best sires in the world and she's a half-sister to two Grade I winners. She has the pedigree to be any kind. I feel like she really has grown up and has gotten stronger and better as time goes on, which happens a lot of times when you have these great pedigrees.” Hall of Fame rider John Velazquez, who was aboard for the filly's initial victory at two, will be returning for his first ride on the filly since last fall. Boys Facing the 'Girl' Looking to stand in Casse's is Woodbine-based Josie Carroll who saddles Notorious Gangster (Classic Empire) Saturday. Carroll, who also won the Plate with a filly–Inglorious–in 2011, is respectful of the sole filly in Saturday's Canadian Classic. “If you look at European racing, the fillies face the colts all of the time,” opined Carroll when asked about the fillies facing the colts in big races. “I think a good horse is a good horse. If you have one that has the talent to be there and is handling everything you have to do to get there, then there is no reason not to be there.” Of the early Plate favorite, Carroll added, “I think [No Time] will be tough, she is a good filly. But I hope we run her down.” Campaigned by Mark Dodson, the Notorious Gangster won last year's Coronation Futurity and this year's Queenston Stakes. The dark bay was also runner-up in this year's Woodstock and Plate Trial. “He's a very uncomplicated horse,” said Carroll, of Notorious Gangster, who will be ridden by Fraser Aebly. “The one thing that he shares with the horses that I have been successful with in the Plate is that he has a very good mind. He's very level-headed. And I think that's a really important trait on a day like King's Plate Day when there's a huge crowd.” Carroll also won the Plate in 2006 with Edenwold and again with Mighty Heart in 2020. “He's peaking at the right time, ticking all the boxes he should tick,” stated Carroll. “It's a large field, will he get it done, that's the real question, but I wouldn't trade him for anybody else right now.” How does the trainer expect for the dark bay to handle the 10-furlong distance? “I think the distance should really be ideal for a horse that closes the way that he does,” she said. “We'll leave it to his rider to navigate the traffic. In a big field, you worry if a closer will be able to work his way through, but we have every confidence in our rider.” In search of his third Plate victory, Attard offers up Dewolf (Silent Name {Jpn}), Mansetti (Collected) and Faber (Improbable). The dark bay will be ridden by Flavien Prat, who won the 2019 Plate with One Bad Boy. The winner of last season's Bull Page Stakes and second in the Cup and Saucer, the colt finished runner up in the GIII Grey Stakes and Coronation Futurity early this season. Sixth last time out the Plate Trial, DeWolf is campaigned by X-Men Racing IV LLC, Canuck Racing Club, Madaket Stables LLC and SF Racing LLC. “DeWolf has probably trained the best of them from just a raw-talent point of view,” explained Attard. “His works in the morning have been stellar. Unfortunately, he hasn't really showed up in the afternoon yet. Not ideal trips in both races [this season], so it's been a bit of a disappointment from that perspective. Going into the first race this season, I was really excited and I thought this was an ideal horse for the King's Plate. It hasn't gone according to plan, but he continues to train well and to have Flavien Prat aboard, that is a bonus as well. He just needs to transition from the morning to the afternoon.” He added, “He also needs to get a good trip, and if that happens, we'll see the DeWolf that everyone has been expecting and supporting so far.” Stablemates Mansetti and Faber are campaigned by Al and Bill Ulwelling, who are looking for their first Plate win. Faber hit the board in two of four starts this season, including a pair of allowance optional claimers going a mile at Turfway in March and while adding an extra sixteenth at Woodbine May 31. The more accomplished of the two, Mansetti won last season's Clarendon Stakes in November and added two more stakes this term-the Mar. 27 Woodstock Stakes and most recently in the GIII Marine Stakes in his first try past a mile June 28. “The distance is obviously the big question, but it is the question for a lot of the horses in the race as well,” Attard explained. “He's really matured between two to three, and we saw him stretch his speed to two turns in the Marine.” He continued, “We've also elected to give him more time in between races. We've put in some long works in between and he's handled them really well. He has a lot of talent. He has run one good race and one bad race, which is a bit concerning, but I think he's coming into it fresh which is a plus. And physically, he's never looked any better. He's thriving right now, so I'm hoping for a big race.” Attard confirmed that Pietro Moran, who was aboard for both of the colt's victories this season, will be back on the $40,000 OBS April graduate Saturday. “If Pietro [Moran] can get him to relax, I think he's going to be there at the end,” he concluded. Victorious in last month's Plate Trial, Sedburys Ghost (Shaman Ghost) will be ridden by Ryan Munger. The gelding kicked off the season with a win sprinting at Woodbine June 8 before finishing fourth in his route debut in the Marine. “He was a high-strung horse–not bad-acting, just very good-feeling as a 2-year-old, but he has settled down,” said trainer Barbara Minshall. “He has matured a whole lot. He was extremely calm and professional in the paddock for the Plate Trial. Generally, horses that get better all the time keep improving. It's a good sign.” Scorching (Mo Town) won last year's Simcoe Stakes and Cup and Saucer (via disqualification). Campaigned by Paul Braverman and Timothy Pinch, he was second in this year's Marine and third in the Plate Trial. Trained by John Charalambous, Scorching was bred by Huntington Stud Farm Corp. “After his first race, it was very impressive, and he improved each time he ran last year and this year,” said Charalambous. “After his first start, he just seemed to grasp everything very well and showed that he could be a better-than-average colt.” Jose Lezcano gets the call. Tom's Magic (Justify) comes into his first appearance outside of the U.S. off a 1 ½-length win in the 8 1/2-furlong Tale of the Cat Stakes on June 28 at Monmouth Park. Owned by CJ Thoroughbreds and Mo Speed Racing, and trained by Michael Stidham, the colt was bred by Sean and Dorothy Fitzhenry. “I like the horse a lot,” said Stidham. “He's done things the right way. I think he's had a good preparation coming up to this race. I think we're in there with a really live chance.” Rafael Hernandez, who has won three Plates, including last year with Caitlinhergrtness, will be in the irons on Saturday. E.P. Taylor Headlines Stacked Undercard Often an important factor in making the argument for the leading turf mare of the season, this season's GI E.P. Taylor Stakes once again offers up several horses that might be under consideration come next winter. Leading the fray is 3-5 morning-line favorite She's So Pretty (Karakontie {Jpn}). A four-time Grade I winner, the Lael Stables-campaigned filly finished a close-up second most recently in the GI Diana Stakes at the Spa July 12. Winner of the GI Natalma Stakes over Woodbine's turf course in 2023, the Cherie DeVaux-trained filly also took last season's GI QEII Cup at Keeneland and earlier this year, she won Churchill's GIII Modesty Stakes. Her most recent win was recorded in the GI New York Stakes in Saratoga June 6. Hoping to recapture some her earlier glory, last year's King's Plate winner Caitlinhergrtness (Omaha Beach) attempts to get back into the winner's circle in the 10-furlong turf test for fillies and mares. Victorious on Woodbine's synthetic in the 8 1/2-panel GIII Belle Mahone Stakes May 31, the chestnut tired to eighth in the grassy GII Nassua Stakes over a mile June 28 before just getting caught late and having to settle for second in the GIII Trillium Stakes on the main track July 26. “I am a little disappointed with her race in the Nassau over the E.P. Taylor course,” Kevin Attard admitted. “I don't really have an excuse for it. It's a bit of a let-down performance. She had been pretty consistent for me right from the start.” He continued, “She had a good work last weekend, and there were a couple of defections, we thought. It's a [Breeders' Cup] 'Win and You're In' race and in our own backyard, so it's worth taking a shot.” When asked about the competition in Saturday's Grade I contest, he added, “With Cherie's filly here, arguably the best turf filly in North America, everybody is going to have to have their running shoes on to beat her. But we're on home turf and I'm happy with the way she is doing.” Flavien Prat is scheduled to ride Caitlinhergrtness for the first time Saturday. The three-day A Good Life Well Lived – Equine Summit ran from Monday, August 11-Wednesday, August 13 in Co Kilkenny. It was presented by the Irish Equine Veterinary Association (IEVA), in partnership with Connolly's Red Mills and featured attendees from numerous Irish industry bodies. During the first day, attendees visited Ballylinch Stud for lunch and a tour of the farm, as well as a stallion parade. Later in the day, guests attended a tour of the manufacturing facilities of Connolly's Red Mills in Goresbridge, and the day concluded with a summit supper at Mount Juliet Estate. The second day, IEVA presented a programme of presentations relating to equine wellness, for all those involved with or working in the Irish bloodstock industry. The day commenced with the guided tour of Connolly's Red Mills, lunch at Gowran Park and a series of presentations delivered by Dr Orla Doherty, Dr David Marlin, Dr Alina Vale; and Nicole Groyer, Louise Jones, Sorcha O'Connor and Mike Sheilds of Connolly's Red Mills. Wednesday's session began at the mill with presentations on 'Clinical Nutrition Insights- Nutrition as a Tool' and 'From field to factory to feed pot- What is NOPS? Reducing risks of positive drug tests due to contamination', as well as a tour of the mill. Lunch was held at Gowran Park prior to a series of afternoon presentations delivered by Dr Orla Dohery, 'Applying equine psychology to improving behaviour, handling and training'; Dr David Marlin, 'Managing Racehorses in the Heat Optimising Performance & Welfare'; and Dr Alina Vale, 'Racehorse Fatalities- What Can We Learn from Tragedy?'. The final presentation, delivered by Louise Jones and Sorcha O'Connor of Connolly's Red Mills, was titled 'Teamwork in Equine Nutrition , How Vets and Nutritionists Can Win Together'. A total of 266 yearlings have been catalogued for the Fasig-Tipton California Fall Yearlings Sale to be held Tuesday, Sept. 23, at the Fairplex in Pomona. The single-session auction kicks off at 11 a.m. PT. Sires represented by yearlings in this year's catalogue include Army Mule, Authentic, Clubhouse Ride, Corniche, Cyberknife, Drain the Clock, Early Voting, Good Magic, Grazen, Hard Spun, Justify, Knicks Go, Liam's Map, Maxfield, Maximus Mischief, McKinzie, Nashville, Olympiad, Omaha Beach, Oscar Performance, Practical Joke, Sir Prancelot (Ire), Stay Thirsty, Tiz the Law and Vekoma.
