A new four-year deal to continue showing exclusive, free-to-air coverage of UK horse racing from 2027 until 2030 was agreed upon by ITV on Tuesday. There will be 117 days of live coverage to be shown across ITV1, ITV4, STV and STV Player–all simulcast on ITVX–along with the morning racing programme The Opening Show. The live coverage will include some of the best races on the UK racing calendar, among them: the Randox Grand National, Royal Ascot, the Boodles Cheltenham Festival and the Betfred Derby. ITV4 will also include five races from the main site as a minimum for each fixture. Trainer Francis-Henri Graffard fields a trio of runners in Sunday's G1 Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, with Aga Khan homebred Daryz (Sea The Stars) to be ridden by Mickael Barzalona. The three-year-old colt has been stepped up gradually this season, with a win in the Listed Prix Ridgway in June followed by a success in the G2 Prix Eugene Adam at Saint-Cloud later that month. Unplaced in the G1 Juddmonte International Stakes at York in August, the son of Daryakana (Selkirk) bounced back to be second in the G3 Prix du Prince d'Orange in very soft ground in September. He was just beaten by Japan's G1 Japanese Derby hero Croix Du Nord (Kitasan Black) that day, and will face that foe again on Sunday. “Daryz is a colt we've always held in high regard, and we believed he was the best three-year-old colt among the Aga Khan Studs' horses,” said Graffard at a Tuesday press conference. “But he's still mentally tender and physically very imposing, which is why we chose not to run him in the Qatar Prix du Jockey Club or the Cygames Grand Prix de Paris. He will be ridden by Mickaël Barzalona, the retained jockey for the Aga Khan silks. “That performance [in the Prince d'Orange] earned him the right to line up in the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe with a legitimate chance.” White Birch Farm's Gezora (Almanzor) will have multiple G1 St Leger Stakes-winning jockey Tom Marquand in the saddle. Successful in the G3 Prix des Reservoirs last October for Nicolas le Roch, she joined the Graffard yard and was promptly third in the G3 Prix Vanteaux in April. A winner of the G2 Prix Saint-Alary, the filly claimed the G1 Prix de Diane in June. Given some time away, Gezora returned with a second in the G1 Prix Vermeille to Arc favourite Aventure (Sea The Stars) on September 7. “She will be ridden by English jockey Tom Marquand, who'll be aboard for the first time, but she's easy to handle, so I'm not concerned,” Graffard continued. “She had a three-month break, and we targeted a comeback in the Qatar Prix Vermeille. She wasn't quite 100% fit yet, but still ran very well, finishing second to Aventure, who is now the current favourite for the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.” Rounding out the Graffard trio is Haras de la Perelle homebred Quisisana (Le Havre), who will have Alexis Pouchin at the controls. She is a winner of her last four starts including the G1 Prix Jean Romanet in August. “Quisisana is a magnificent mare, a real force of nature. She will be ridden by Alexis Pouchin, who has partnered her before I've always thought very highly of her, and her owner, Mr. Winter, agreed to keep her in training at five. She repaid that faith by winning the Sumbe Prix Jean Romanet comfortably–one of the races in the Arc Races program–which earned her a wildcard entry into the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.” Murphy Picks Up Byzantine Dream Ride In Arc In other booking news, Oisin Murphy will ride Japan's Byzantine Dream in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. Japan has yet to win the Paris showpiece and the Kazumi Yoshida runner is well-regarded in the betting market. The son of Epiphaneia won the G2 Red Sea Turf Handicap in February, before running second in the G1 Tenno Sho (Spring) back in his native land. He eked out a half-length victory in the G2 Prix Foy over fellow Arc hopeful Sosie (Sea The Stars)–fourth in the iconic race in 2024–on September 7. Murphy was aboard Byzantine Dream in Riyadh and in the Foy. Murphy said of the Tomoyasu Sakaguchi-trained runner, “I was very happy with Byzantine Dream in the Prix Foy, he travelled round well and showed a nice turn of foot. It was a decent trial, where I didn't have to get serious with him, and I thought Sosie was a decent benchmark. Keeneland has catalogued 3,075 horses for its upcoming November Breeding Stock Sale, the company announced Tuesday. The sale will run for eight days beginning Tuesday, Nov. 4 and running through Wednesday, Nov. 11, with the stand-alone November Horses of Racing Age Sale held the following day. Multiple group and graded winner Wimbledon Hawkeye will run next in the GI Breeders' Cup Turf at Del Mar in November, according to trainer James Owens. The son of Kameko, who won the 2024 G2 Royal Lodge Stakes and ran third in the G1 Futurity Trophy Stakes at two, was second in the G3 Craven Stakes to kickstart his sophomore year. Only fifth in the G1 2000 Guineas in May, he was third in York's G2 Dante Stakes and fourth in the G2 King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot. More recently, he rolled a pair of twos in the G2 Princess Of Wales Stakes at Newmarket in July and in the G3 Gordon Stakes at Goodwood later that month. He was first by a head in the GIII Nashville Derby Invitational Stakes for the Gredley family on August 30 with Frankie Dettori aboard. Owen said, “He really enjoyed his trip to America, like we all did, and he's had an easy two weeks since getting back after the race. He's back doing routine canters now and looks fantastic and we're aiming at the Breeders' Cup Turf. “It is going to be a much stronger race, but an absolute privilege for myself and my team to be going there with a horse that has a chance. “I've never been to Del Mar, but it's a tight track and I think it will suit him as he's an agile horse and the extra furlong of the race will suit, so it's exciting. “Hopefully Frankie can ride and he's pretty much assured me he can and that will be great. He's been consistent and I was thrilled for the horse more than anything when he won in America. He's only been on the grass once before at home, so it's exciting for connections. The new Each Way Extra Challenge Series, which begins at Gowran Park on October 3, will be sponsored by William Hill. The seven-month series runs until April of next year and is spread across 50 races at 28 meetings and 13 Irish racecourses. The William Hill Each Way Extra Challenge Series will allocate points per race to trainers and jockeys on a first to seventh place finishing basis (10,6,5,4,3,2,1) with an overall table to decide the prize winners at the final fixture on April 24, 2026. The winning trainer will receive €50,000, and the winning rider and stable staff will receive €10,000 respectively. All trainers can compete in the series races, but the bonus point element is only open to trainers with 50 or fewer winners in either of the last two seasons in either code. Any rider who rides for a qualifying trainer will have bonus points allocated, while riders who ride for ineligible trainers will not receive series points for those rides only. Stable staff from all yards will qualify for the bonus element, including staff of trainers who are ineligible. A €100 best-turned-out award will be given to the stable staff for each race in the series. Supported by key industry stakeholders the Irish Racehorse Trainers Association (IRTA), Irish Stable Staff Association (ISSA) & IJA (Irish Jockeys Association), the William Hill Each Way Extra Challenge Series aims to incentivise the grassroots of Irish racing and demonstrate the leading bookmaker's commitment to the sport at every level. The dedication ceremony for the Sunday Silence mural, a new equine art installation celebrating the legendary racehorse, is set for Sunday, Oct. 12, 2025, at 2 p.m. in downtown Paris, Kentucky. The event is free and open to the public. The mural, created by equine artist Jaime Corum, depicts the 1989 Kentucky Derby winner in his iconic victory. The artwork is located on the side of the new Hotel Thoroughbred, set to open in the spring of 2026. The mural is a project of the Legends of Bourbon County non-profit organization, in conjunction with Stone Farm. The dedication is part of the third annual Legends of Bourbon County festival, which will celebrate the legacy of Sunday Silence throughout the weekend. As part of the dedication, there is a day-long festival on Main Street in Paris that includes vendors and multiple musical acts. Grade I winner Vahva (Gun Runner–Holiday Soiree, by Harlan's Holiday) has been entered in Book 1 of the November Breeding Stock Sale on Tuesday, Nov. 4. Lane's End, agent, will consign Vahva, who is cataloged as a racing or broodmare prospect. She will become the first Grade I-winning daughter of Gun Runner to be offered at public auction, according to a Keeneland release Tuesday. Vahva is nominated to the GII Thoroughbred Club of America on Saturday during Fall Stars Weekend on Keeneland's opening three days. “Vahva is a high-class competitor who has faced and defeated many of the sport's most talented female sprinters in each of the past three seasons,” Keeneland Vice President of Sales Tony Lacy said. “A leading earner by Gun Runner, she will be a valuable addition to any program. Her graded stakes success at Keeneland makes her return to our sales ring especially meaningful, underscoring the unique connection between our racing and sales.” In four seasons of racing, Vahva has raced at seven tracks with seven victories, including five stakes wins, and earnings of $2,041,010. Last year, she bankrolled nearly $1 million with a campaign that featured a 2-length victory in the GI Derby City Distaff on Kentucky Derby Day at Churchill Downs, where she next took the GIII Chicago Stakes by 1 1/4 lengths. There was a sense of deja vu at Kildare Paddocks on Tuesday as Glenvale Stud's No Nay Never filly out of Muirin (Born To Sea) stole the show at the Goffs Orby Yearling Sale, with MV Magnier having to stretch to €1.9 million – the highest price of the sale so far – to outpoint Jacob West. Whilst perhaps best known for producing the dual Group 1-winning juvenile Blackbeard and this year's G2 Norfolk Stakes winner Charles Darwin from her previous trysts with No Nay Never, Muirin also made headlines at the Orby three years ago when her filly by the Coolmore stallion fetched a sale-topping €2.6 million. Later named Run Away, she made a winning debut as a three-year-old and finished placed at Listed level the following year when in training with Andrew Balding. As for this filly, she is set to follow in the footsteps of Blackbeard and Charles Darwin by heading into training at Ballydoyle, with Magnier keen to extol the virtues of No Nay Never in a year when Saturday's G1 Cheveley Park Stakes heroine True Love and G1 City Of York Stakes winner Never So Brave have also put the stallion's name in lights. “She is a lovely filly and all of the lads liked her,” said Magnier. “Again, No Nay Never is having another brilliant year. Mountarmstrong Stud's Noel O'Callaghan declared himself “delighted” after Amo Racing stretched to €1 million to secure his Night Of Thunder filly during Tuesday's session of the Goffs Orby Sale, telling the assembled press pack, “If you don't get a kick out of selling a yearling for €1 million, you never will.” Lot 298 is the second foal out of No Speak Alexander (Shalaa), Mountarmstrong's homebred winner of the G1 Matron Stakes. No Speak Alexander, in turn, is out of the Listed scorer Rapacity Alexander (Dandy Man), a full-sister to the G1 Hong Kong Sprint hero Peniaphobia. This filly was the second seven-figure lot to go through the ring on the second day of the Orby, after MV Magnier emerged on top from the bidding war for the No Nay Never filly who was offered as lot 280. A small owner-breeder with two broodmares, Berry sits on the BHA Flat Pattern Committee and is a member of the judging panel for the British Horseracing Hall of Fame. “The European Breeders' Fund has been a long-running success story as racing's original self-help scheme,” said Berry. “It wouldn't exist without the stalwart support of the stallion owners, and in turn the breeders who support those horses, and it is the finest example of how racing can benefit through a unified approach from its participants. “The significant financial support that the British EBF has given racecourses in this country for more than 40 years is evidence of that, and as the sport faces a period of uncertainty it is now more vital than ever. It is an honour to succeed Simon Sweeting in this role and, with my fellow trustees, I thank him for the time and commitment he has devoted to the British EBF.” Berry replaces Overbury Stud manager Sweeting, who has served two terms as chair and been a trustee since 2015. During his tenure, Sweeting has overseen the introduction of the British EBF 2yo Series worth over £2 million, including its two finals run at Goodwood and York. Sweeting added, “It has been a privilege to represent British stallion owners on the board of the British EBF and guide the organisation through its recent successes and challenges, including that of Covid, where we were able to remain operational throughout and successfully allocated over £1.4 million to prize-money at a very difficult time for the sport and wider industry. “During my tenure, we have seen the launch of the successful British EBF £100,000 2yo Finals, the implementation and expansion of the popular high-value development races, bolstering the novice and maiden programme, and we have taken over the support of the Junior Hurdle project from the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association. “I thank my fellow trustees and the executive for their diligence and enthusiasm and look forward to following the next chapter of this remarkable organisation's support of British racing.” The British EBF also welcomes three new trustees in 2026: stallion master Roisin Close of Worcestershire-based Chapel Stud, renowned owner-breeder Colin Bryce and Thoroughbred Breeders' Association vice chair Kate Sigsworth. Leaving the trusteeship after their successful terms are Gary Middlebrook and Claire Sheppard. By Dave Di Somma, Harness News Desk It’s been more than six months since Josh Mantell last saw Tour Party. The change has been obvious. “He’s just so much bigger,” says Mantell. Earlier this year Mantell was the winner of the Harness Racing New Zealand Next Gen “Win a Share in a Race Horse” competition. He entered the competition at the Motukarara races last December. His prize was a 3.5% share in Tour Party, a full brother to multiple Group 1 winner Republican Party. Bred by Price Bloodstock in Winton, Tour Party (Bettor’ Delight – Democrat Party) was purchased by Cran and Chrissie Dalgety for $150,000 at the 2024 NZB Christchurch Yearling Sales. Mantell, an electrician by trade, has not had any previous involvement with racing horses but as a racing fan is enjoying his new found status as an owner. “It is real cool.” Mantell first saw Tour Party at the Dalgetys’ open day at Kentuckiana Lodge in February and has been regularly updated with videos since then. On Saturday he was back at the West Melton stables to check on his progress. “They are such a great bunch of people.” So has Tour Party matured since last time? “Oh massively!” says Mantell, “the last time I saw him I was towering over him, now it’s the other way round.” There are no concrete plans yet about his immediate racing future though Mantell says the son of Bettor’s Delight appears to be making good progress. “They (the Dalgetys) seem pretty happy with him.” “It’s exciting and I’ve got some mates and workmates who are pretty keen to see him race.” That could be early 2026 and Mantell, mullet and all, can’t wait.
