Observations on the European Racing Scene turns the spotlight on the best European races of the day, highlighting well-pedigreed horses early in their careers, horses of note returning to action and young runners that achieved notable results in the sales ring. Wednesday's Observations features the return of Elizabeth Jane (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}). 19.30 Naas, Listed, €52,500, 3yo, f, 10f 84yT ELIZABETH JANE (IRE) (Dubawi {Ire}) has not been seen since gaining a TDN Rising Star tag at Leopardstown in October, but still has Classic credentials having been pitched back into this Listed Al Shira'aa Racing Irish EBF Naas Oaks Trial. Moyglare Stud's homebred daughter of the G2 British Champions Fillies' and Mares' Stakes winner Sapphire (Ire) (Medicean {GB}), who hails from the Dermot Weld stable already successful in one Oaks, meets Ballydoyle's Grateful (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), a daughter of Tepin (Bernstein) who was off the mark at The Curragh earlier this month. 14.47 Chantilly, Cond, €34,000, 2yo, 6fT TIEGO THE FIRST (FR) (Blue Point {Ire}) is another TDN Rising Star to take a second step in his career on the day, having impressed on debut at Saint-Cloud last month. Pia and Joakim Brandt's €170,000 Arqana October graduate from the family of High Chaparral (Ire) meets four other winners in this tight contest. Royal Ascot winners Inisherin (GB) (Shamardal) and English Oak (GB) (Wootton Bassett {GB}) both feature prominently in the betting for the G1 My Pension Expert July Cup after the latest entries were released on Tuesday. A total of 23 horses remain in contention for the first big clash of the generations at the six-furlong trip, which will be run at Newmarket on Saturday, July 13 and offers total prize-money of £600,000. Inisherin ran out a dominant winner of the G1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, having been sent off a warm favourite following the defection of key rivals such as Vandeek (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}), Elite Status (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}) and Bucanero Fuerte (GB) (Wootton Bassett {GB}). The July Cup promises to be a stiffer test of Inisherin's top-class credentials if that trio all make it to post at Newmarket, while Jasour (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}), who finished third in the Commonwealth Cup, could be in opposition once again. Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum, the owner of Inisherin and Elite Status, is also responsible for Rosallion (Ire) (Blue Point {Ire}), who would be a fascinating contender if taking up his July Cup entry, having proved himself an outstanding miler with back-to-back Group 1 wins in the Irish 2,000 Guineas and St James's Palace Stakes. Ed Walker's rapidly progressive four-year-old English Oak will face a significant rise in grade if lining up at Newmarket, having defied a BHA mark of 99 with ease in the Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, while the first three from the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at that meeting–Khaadem (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}), Swingalong (Ire) (Showcasing {GB}) and Mill Stream (Ire) (Gleneagles {Ire})–could also feature in the July Cup, along with the G1 King Charles III Stakes runner-up Regional (GB) (Territories {Ire}). Goodwood Highlights Starting to Take Shape The first entries for seven races at the Qatar Goodwood Festival were also revealed on Tuesday, with 31 fillies and mares being given the option of running in the G1 Qatar Nassau Stakes on Thursday, August 1. They include a pair of Classic winners in 1,000 Guineas heroine Elmalka (GB) (Kingman {GB}) and Prix de Diane scorer Sparkling Plenty (Fr) (Kingman {GB}), plus Opera Singer (Justify), the standout two-year-old filly of 2023 and runner-up in the G1 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot last time. They will be tested against their elders if lining up at Goodwood, with no more accomplished performer among the entries than the John and Thady Gosden-trained Inspiral (GB) (Frankel {GB}), already a six-time winner at the top level. The feature race when the meeting kicks off on Tuesday, July 30 is the G1 Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup in which the Gosdens could saddle up to four runners, including their G1 Gold Cup second Trawlerman (Ire) (Golden Horn {GB}). However, it's Aidan O'Brien who holds the strongest hand numerically with 10 of the 22 entries, headed by Trawlerman's Royal Ascot conqueror, Kyprios (Ire) (Galileo {GB}), who won the Goodwood Cup in 2022. Last year's G1 St Leger hero Continuous (Jpn) (Heart's Cry {Jpn}) also features in the Ballydoyle contingent. The G2 World Pool Lennox Stakes is another highlight on the opening day of the meeting and has attracted 40 contenders, while the other races at the Qatar Goodwood Festival for which the entries have been revealed include two major handicaps, with 111 in the Coral Stewards' Cup and 61 in the Coral Golden Mile. The weights will be published for both races on Wednesday, July 3. A full list of entries for all seven races can be found here. As Royal Ascot drew to a close on Saturday, one of its luminaries of yesteryear, Superstar Leo (Ire) (College Chapel {GB}), died peacefully in America at the age of 26. The winner of the Norfolk Stakes in 2000, she was an outstanding two-year-old for William Haggas, initially racing for her breeders, the trainer's father-in-law Lester Piggott and Tony Hirschfield, before being bought by Roy and Gretchen Jackson of Lael Stable. Having already won twice prior to Ascot, she then went on to win the Weatherbys Super Sprint and G2 Flying Childers Stakes, as well as finishing second in both the G1 Phoenix Stakes and G1 Prix de l'Abbaye. Superstar Leo arguably made an even greater impact once retired to the paddocks at Peter Stanley's New England Stud as a long-term boarder for her American-based owners. Eleven of her 14 runners from 15 foals are winners, the best of them being the dual Group 3 winner Enticing (Ire) (Pivotal {GB}), who was a classy sprinter just like her sire and dam, and the Listed winner and G3 Jersey Stakes runner-up Sentaril (GB) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}). Enticing, who died in 2022, has in turn produced One Master (GB) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}), whose six stakes victories include three consecutive wins in the G1 Prix de la Foret for the Jacksons and Haggas. “Superstar Leo was such a star,” said Haggas, who has trained the majority of the family and now has a member of the fourth generation of the family in One Master's first foal, a two-year-old colt by Dubawi (Ire) in training at his Somerville Lodge Stable at Newmarket. “Really, she was the one who introduced us to the Jacksons in the first place and they have been wonderful to us ever since then,” he added. “The Jacksons gave her a wonderful life. When she had been retired from breeding at New England Stud they had her flown to America so she could live out her retirement close to them. She died in her paddock on Saturday from a heart attack.” It was Haggas's mother-in-law, former trainer Susan Piggott, who was initially responsible for her family's involvement with the Superstar Leo clan having bought her Philip Oppenheimer-bred dam Council Rock (GB) (General Assembly) from the Tattersalls December Sales in 1993 for 11,000gns. One Master, who now also resides at New England Stud alongside her half-sister Arousing (GB) (Kodiac {GB}) and two of Superstar Leo's daughters, Sentaril and her full-sister Cloud Line (GB), has a Dubawi filly foal this season and is now in foal to Frankel (GB). New York State Gaming Commission will launch an advisory board to assist directing contributions from New York's Thoroughbred and Standardbred breeding funds to responsible racehorse aftercare organizations, the organization announced in a press release Tuesday. Thoroughbred and Standardbred owners and breeders, and animal protection organizations specializing in horse aftercare and rescue are eligible to serve on the panel on a volunteer basis. “We are seeking responsible and dedicated horseracing industry participants and animal welfare organizations to work together to drive resources to equine aftercare organizations,” said Chair Brian O'Dwyer. “This advisory board of experts will help ensure that every dollar contributed for retired racehorses is spent wisely to promote the health and well-being of these magnificent animals.” New Yorkers may make contributions on personal and/or corporate state income tax returns to funding the operation of retired race horse aftercare facilities via the New York State Thoroughbred Breeding and Development Fund and/or the Agriculture and New York State Horse Breeding Development Fund (for Standardbreds). In addition, any fines collected for violations of New York State law prohibiting the slaughter of race horses and race horse breeding stock (Section 382 of the Agriculture & Markets Law) are remitted to the respective funds to be spent solely for the purpose of the care of retired race horses. The funds will then distribute the funds to organizations, with consideration as to whether the group is an accredited horse retirement and rescue program. Those who meet the aforementioned qualifications and are interested in serving are encouraged to contact Acting Secretary to the Commission Kristen Buckley at 518-388-3400 or emailing info@gaming.ny.gov. Bidding is now open for the “Cloudy Dancer Flash Sale,” a one-horse online auction on Fasig-Tipton Digital. Cloudy Dancer (GB) is the dam of Shareholder (Not This Time), the impressive winner of the G2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot this past Thursday for Wathnan Racing and trainer Karl Burke. Bidding on Cloudy Dancer (GB) will close this Friday, June 28, at 2 PM ET. A two-year-old colt by leading sire Not This Time, Shareholder is now undefeated in two career starts. He won his debut on June 8 at Beverley, and then subsequently captured the Norfolk, powering home to a one-length victory at Royal Ascot 12 days later. He was purchased by agent Richard Brown for Wathnan Racing for €460,000 at the Arqana May Breeze-Up Sale, after selling at Keeneland September for $62,000. A possible next target for Shareholder is the G1 Sumbe Prix Morny Aug. 18 at Deauville, said Burke immediately following the Norfolk. Shareholder's victory also earned him a guaranteed start in the $1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint via the Breeders' Cup Challenge “Win and You're In” Series. Eight-year-old Cloudy Dancer is a daughter of prominent European sire Invincible Spirit (Ire). Her stakes-winning dam Ronaldsay (GB) has also produced Gale Force Ten (GB), winner of the G3 Jersey Stakes and second in the G1 Irish Two Thousand Guineas, as well as stakes winner Rousay (Ire). Her immediate family includes Irish Champion Bianca Nera (GB) as well as international graded/group stakes winners Pickle (GB), Beauly (GB), and Missed the Cut. “This is a unique opportunity to purchase a young mare that is the dam of a recent Royal Ascot group stakes winning two-year-old,” said Leif Aaron, Fasig-Tipton Director of Digital Sales. “She was not bred this year, so she is ready to be bred early on Southern Hemisphere time or at the start of the 2025 breeding season in the Northern Hemisphere.” Shareholder is just the second foal from Cloudy Dancer, who is consigned by Frankfort Park Farm, agent for Skyfall Thoroughbreds LLC. Skyfall's principal, Geoffrey Von Honste, told the TDN on Thursday after the win that he had been on the brink of selling off his remaining assets in horse racing to concentrate on his cattle farm in South Africa, but that he may reconsider. Prospective buyers may view the entry and register to bid at digital.fasigtipton.com. It is the typically interesting opinion of John Sikura that “a stallion's genetic switch is either on or off.” The quality and quantity of his books may affect his profile, but his potency (or otherwise) will be operative the day he covers his first mare. Sure enough, six Grade I winners to date for Not This Time all belong to his first two books, conceived at just $15,000. Whatever he might yet achieve with his upgraded mares, paying $135,000 last year and now $150,000, he did not need their help to establish himself as the principal American heir to his sire. The Taylor Made stallion has had to ride out a typical bump in the commercial road, his third book having dwindled to 64 live foals in 2020. Even his incoming yearlings were conceived at no more than $45,000, so his rewards for second-crop graduates Epicenter and Up to the Mark will not cycle through the racetrack for a while yet. That being so, Not This Time has had a helpful couple of weeks, aptly dividing headlines between a late-maturing member of that second crop and a sizzling 2-year-old from his fifth. What Cogburn and Shareholder have in common, besides deploying it on turf, is terrific speed. Cogburn broke the North American record for 5 1/2 furlongs in the GI Jaipur Stakes; while the race won by Shareholder at Royal Ascot last week, the G2 Norfolk Stakes, essentially identifies the most precocious dasher in Europe. Hold this forte against the two-turn resumes of Epicenter and Up to the Mark, and it's plain that Not This Time inherited versatility as well as class from Giant's Causeway. For those of us who consider the gene pools either side of the ocean culpably insular since “the Iron Horse,” his son's Ascot success feels like a significant new frontier so soon after Justify's conquest of Epsom. That Not This Time should offer the best of both worlds reflects a pedigree that combines the Florida speed of his maternal family (second dam inbred 2×3 to Ta Wee-quite something, given that the latter only had five foals) with the transatlantic blends behind his sire. Giant's Causeway was a grandson of one of many sons of Northern Dancer exported to Ballydoyle during a more vital era of cross-pollination. His dam, meanwhile, represented a famously international sire-line (Rahy/Blushing Groom (Fr)/ Red God) while his next dam was by Roberto, who similarly adapted Hail to Reason to the European theater. Shareholder's dam doubled down on these European flavors as an unraced daughter of Invincible Spirit (Ire), who channelled so much “chlorophyll” into Danzig's legacy. Further back, moreover, the family carries strongly indigenous British influences. All that doubtless helped to relegate Shareholder to Hip 2057 at the September Sale last year, but will also have encouraged M&C Bloodstock in buying him out of the Frankfort Park draft for $62,000. After all, his dam is a sibling to Gale Force Ten (GB) (by Oasis Dream (GB), like Invincible Spirit a son of Green Desert), who was himself runner-up in the Norfolk before returning to Royal Ascot to win the G3 Jersey Stakes. The third dam, moreover, is half-sister to Bianca Nera (GB) (Salse) and Hotelgenie Dot Com (GB) (Selkirk), respectively first and second in the G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes, the latter producing later dual Group 1 winner Simply Perfect (GB) (Danehill). We've often noted how European investors tend to prove far more receptive to American sires once imported into their local system by pinhookers. And Shareholder was a case in point when placed under their noses by Gaybrook Lodge at the Arqana Breeze-Up Sale. Having confirmed possession of the requisite moving parts, he advanced his value to $450,000 from Blandford Bloodstock (whose Richard Brown has proved so triumphantly equal to the pressures of his brief from Wathnan Racing). In contrast with Shareholder's strong family, Cogburn appears to confirm their sire's ability to move up a mare. His dam-a daughter of Saintly Look, no less-was carrying Cogburn when changing hands for just $26,000, the black type in her family being largely confined to Panama and Peru. No question about it: the genetic switch was “on” here. The last couple of weeks have duly put a quietish start to the year behind Not This Time, as he awaits incoming reinforcements. He has fielded 158 starters, compared with 357 for Into Mischief. Yet eight black-type scorers and 16 such performers keep his ratios (five and 10 percent of starters) in step with the champ. Cogburn's delayed flowering partly reflects time on the sidelines and partly earlier experiments with dirt, but remember that his sire's curtailed career felt like only the tip of the iceberg for a half-brother to late-blooming Liam's Map (Unbridled's Song). Having produced a champion dirt sophomore with third and fourth dams by throwback turf stayers Ela-Mana-Mou (Ire) and Busted (GB), yet now a Norfolk winner as well, Not This Time is truly a sire for our times. Beaten at Their Own Game Whenever I've reproached (and, for the most part, bored) them for neglecting the speed-carrying properties of dirt stallions, I have tended to accuse European breeders of instead becoming disastrously oriented to mere precocity-scarcely a reliable identifier of class. Curious, then, that American influences remain so potent in the Ascot race that showcases precisely that attribute. Into the slipstream of Not This Time's Norfolk winner ran third-placed Arizona Blaze (GB), by rookie Sergei Prokofiev; while a nostril behind was Whistlejacket (Ire), a son of No Nay Never. Sergei Prokofiev, a seven-figure yearling from the outstanding Anderson Farms of Ontario, is by Scat Daddy out of a Tapit mare (granddam by Unbridled's Song). And No Nay Never is another son of Scat Daddy, of course, out of a daughter of Elusive Quality. Last year the Norfolk was won by a son of Malibu Moon out of a Quality Road mare. Shareholder and Valiant Force both broke a minute, incidentally, something that hadn't been done since 2018, by a son of Shanghai Bobby. No Nay Never himself and another son of Scat Daddy, Sioux Nation, are among other modern Norfolk winners; and don't forget Bapak Chinta, by Speightstown out of a Maria's Mon mare. All I'm saying is that this feels a disproportionate impact, relative to opportunity, when thousands of British and Irish mares are being mated for precocity. Meanwhile the Windsor Castle Stakes, a similar test at a slightly lower tier, was last week dominated by a son of Gone Astray until run down in the last strides. As for the fastest animal on show at Ascot, in its only Group 1 prize at five furlongs, it's curious to recall that the sire of Asfoora (Aus) (Flying Artie {Aus}) was by American turf miler Artie Schiller, himself a son of El Prado (Ire). The variety of the latter's influence-primarily through Medaglia d'Oro and Kitten's Joy-remains ever underestimated. No Keeping this Juddmonte Family Down… Given the program he represents, and the equally seasoned judgement of his trainer, it came as no surprise that thoughts of fast-tracking Batten Down (Tapit) to the GI Belmont Stakes were ultimately abandoned in favor of a more temperate elevation to the GIII Ohio Derby. That decision was duly vindicated last Saturday and, while nobody could have anticipated pocketing a 23:96 second quarter, Batten Down can now aspire to pick up the pieces against those sophomores who staggered along the road to and through the Triple Crown. That's precisely what they did with Arrogate, but the Juddmonte team will keep taking one step at a time with this guy. Whatever he achieves from here, after all, Batten Down is already sealing the status of Close Hatches (First Defence) as a broodmare every bit as accomplished as she was a runner. Even this most aristocratic of farms can't have a more vibrant family. Idiomatic (Curlin) has been doing her part, as daughter of a GI Kentucky Oaks-placed sister to Close Hatches; the latter, having already produced Tacitus to win $3.75 million, now has the prospect of winning graded stakes on consecutive weekends, with her thriving daughter Scylla heading for the GII Fleur de Lis. We discussed Scylla's antecedents after her last run, and now it appears that her brother is going to assist the proliferation of the dynasty tracing to fifth dam Best In Show. Mention of Arrogate, incidentally, prompts the poignant reflection that Relatable, a debut winner on opening weekend at Los Alamitos, will presumably be among the last of his final crop to contribute to his legacy. “Chapeau” to breeder Xavier Moreau, who sold her for $500,000 at the 2022 September Sale-a deserved coup for this estimable horseman after finding her dam, a Consolidator mare, deep in the 2017 November Sale for just $50,000. …But this One May Mean Even More How affronted Tapit would be, after their serial trysts, if told that Close Hatches had deserted him in 2021 for one of his own sons. But the Juddmonte team's esteem for Constitution was clear the previous year, when they sent the WinStar stallion Mexican Gold (Medaglia d'Oro). A Classic-placed half-sister to G1 Prix Jean Romanet winner Announce (GB) (Selkirk), she belongs to one of their most precious families. Though Constitution has seen his sophomore arsenal depleted by various setbacks since the spring, he may yet have the most talented of the lot in Mindframe-and now Mexican Gold's son Pure Force looks another potential star, having following up his debut success in a Churchill allowance last weekend. Pure Force's fifth dam Mofida (GB) (Right Tack {GB}) is one of the late Prince Khaled's foundation mares. When bought from Robert Sangster in 1981, she was carrying a foal by The Minstrel that turned out to be Zaizafon. Herself a Group winner, Zaizafon went on to produce the Gone West brothers Zafonic and Zamindar-the former a champion on the track, but arguably matched by the latter in their second careers. Zaizafon is Pure Force's fourth dam. But Mofida's next foal, Modena (Roberto), proved no less significant for the developing program: besides elite winners Elmaamul (Diesis) and Reams Of Verse (Nureyev), she also produced the dam of another in Midday (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}). As a model for anyone trying to establish a breeding program today, note how very old-fashioned was Mofida's pedigree. She was out of a mare inbred 2×3 to Gold Bridge (Fr), a fount of speed foaled way back in 1929. Gold Bridge actually carried the Edwardian legend Orby (GB) 3×3, and was also responsible for one of the keystone mares of the Bluegrass in Rough Shod (GB). Rashabar (Ire) rewarded World Pool punters with a Win dividend of 129.90 when landing Tuesday's G2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot, identifying him as the highest-priced winner of any World Pool race since it was launched in 2019. World Pool paid nearly 50 points more than the 80-1 SP returned by Rashabar, who also helped Billy Loughnane to open up a commanding advantage in the World Pool Jockeys' Championship with his Coventry win. Riding his first Royal Ascot winners this week, Loughnane claimed 129.90 points for his success on Rashabar and a further 19.65 aboard Sandringham winner Soprano (Ire). The leading rider after the final World Pool raceday on British Champions Day at Ascot will receive £50,000 to donate to a charity of their choice. “I'm delighted to be leading the World Pool Jockeys' Championship after Royal Ascot,” said the 18-year-old Loughnane. “Winning the Coventry on Rashabar was a dream come true and then to win the Sandringham on Soprano for George [Boughey] and Highclere was incredible. “It's a great initiative by World Pool to donate £50,000 to charity and if I am still in front on Champions Day, then I'll be donating it to the Christy Lambe Foundation, which is a charity very close to my heart.” Elsewhere at the meeting, Gold Cup Day saw the highest turnover of the week at HK$298.2m (£30.1m)–more than any other World Pool day this year–while pools of at least HK$269.6m (£27.2m) were recorded for each of the five days. Total turnover for World Pool bet types on the week came in at HK$1426.1m (£144m). The highest turnover race of the week was Saturday's G3 Jersey Stakes, which was up on 2023 by 20% to hit HK$52.1m (£5.25m). Ten horses remain in contention for Sunday's Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby, including six trained by Aidan O'Brien at Ballydoyle. Only one other Irish trainer, Ger Lyons, has a colt still engaged in the race, while the three potential travellers from Britain are led by the James Fanshawe-trained Ambiente Friendly (Ire) (Gleneagles {Ire}), who was runner-up to City Of Troy in the Derby and has been supplemented for the Irish Classic. “He took Epsom well,” said Fanshawe of his charge who will aim to go one better at the Curragh on Sunday and looks likely to have to reoppose Los Angeles (Ire) (Camelot {GB}), who was over three lengths behind Ambiente Friendly when finishing third at Epsom. “The Derby is a tough race and he lost 9kg but he has put it all back on. He worked last Wednesday and he seems really nice and bright.” There has been much debate as to how to improve the appeal of the Irish Derby, both to connections and racegoers, but Fanshawe was adamant after Epsom that this would be the obvious next step for Bill and Tom Gredley's colt, rather than considering a drop back in trip. He said, “Well, he travelled into the Derby really well and I don't think it was a matter of not staying that got him beaten, and he stayed really well and did a good time at Lingfield on good to firm ground. The Gredleys were keen to go for the Irish Derby as well.” He continued, “Having got him to get into a staying way of thinking, it's nice if we can carry that through. “He has come forward in every way all season, from where we started. He came on for stepping up from nine furlongs to a mile and a half, and switched off well in the Lingfield Derby Trial, and likewise in the Derby. Since the Derby he's been very relaxed about life, and that's a real credit to the team around him at home, and to Andrew Sansome who rides him. They've done a great job with him.” Ambiente Friendly will be a first runner in the Irish Derby for Fanshawe, who has won Group 1 races in Ireland with the top miler Soviet Song (Ire) and Irish St Leger winner Arctic Owl (GB). He has also tasted major international success at the Breeders' Cup with Audarya (Fr) as well as in France with the likes of Speedy Boarding (GB), High Jinx (Ire) and Invermark (GB). “It's great to have a horse like him in the stable,” he added. “It's a cliche but it's what we all do it for, and it keeps Pegasus Stables in lights. You can train lots of winners but to have a really good one like him is in the icing on the cake.” Along with Los Angeles, O'Brien has the Galileo (Ire) colts Agenda (Ire), Chief Little Rock (Ire) and Grosvenor Square (Ire) still engaged in the Irish Derby along with a duo by Galileo's son Frankel (GB) in Euphoric (GB) and The Euphrates (GB). Keeper's Heart (Ire) (Saxon Warrior {Jan}) is entered for the Ger Lyons stable, while Sunway (Fr) (Galiway {GB}) and Matsuri (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}), representing David Menuisier and Roger Varian respectively, could travel from England. 4th-CD, $120k, Msw, 2yo, f, 4 1/2, post time: 2:13 p.m. EDT Charlotte Weber's Live Oak Plantation paid $750,000 for AND ONE MORE TIME (Omaha Beach) at last year's Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale, the priciest filly from her sire's second crop and second-dearest overall from 95 yearlings reported as sold last season. The pedigree has taken off all around it, as, subsequent to the purchase, the filly's half-sister Simply in Front (Summer Front) finished second in Woodbine's GI Natalma S., while Honor D Lady (Honor Code) scooped the GIII Remington Park Oaks before adding this year's GIII Royal Delta S. And One More Time is also kin to Churchtown (Air Force Blue), a stakes winner in 2022. Her third dam is Phipps Grade I luminary Educated Risk (Mr. Prospector). Wayne Lukas trained Super Saks ( Sky Mesa) to a victory in the Carousel Stakes and also conditions her debuting daughter, the $625,000 FTSAUG acquisition Buriana (Justify), for BC Stables. Give Her Another (Tiz the Law) was the sixth most expensive of her sire's 64 first-crop yearlings when hammering to Andrew Farm for $300,000 at Keeneland September last fall. The April foal is out of a winning daughter of two-time Grade I winner Ask The Moon (Malibu Moon), also the dam of MSW/MGSP Belgrano (War Front) and of the Grade III-placed Sundaysatthebeach (Medaglia d'Oro), who is responsible for recent GIII Penn Mile Stakes winner First World War (War Front). Three Chimneys homebred Reliable Source (Volatile) should take some beating and is also well-related, being a half-sister to MGSW Mucho Del Oro (Mucho Macho Man), SW &GISP Funtastic Again (Funtastic) and GSP Lady Glamour (Discreet Cat). What Happy Valley Races Where Happy Valley Racecourse – Wong Nai Chung Rd, Happy Valley, Hong Kong When Wednesday, June 26, 2024 First Race 6:40pm HKT (8:40pm AEST) Visit Dabble Hong Kong racing returns to the bright lights of Happy Valley Racecourse on Wednesday evening, with a bumper nine-race program set for decision. The rail is in the C position, and although there are scattered showers on the forecast, a Good 4 track is expected. The action is scheduled to get underway at 6:40pm local time. Best Bet: Packing Hermod The Francis Lui-trained Packing Hermod looks prepared to strike on debut. The son of Rubick has been educated across five barrier trials, with his latest piece of work catching the eye on the all-weather circuit at Sha Tin on May 31. Barrier two should allow Zac Purton to hold a prominent spot throughout the 1200m journey, and although Packing Hermod lacks race-day experience, he should get every chance to make an impression in this Class 4 contest. Best Bet Race 6 – #5 Packing Hermod (2) 3yo Gelding | T: Francis Lui | J: Zac Purton (58kg) Bet with Bet365 Next Best: Patch Of Time Patch Of Time held ground when returning from a let-up at Sha Tin on June 8 and should take plenty of benefit from that performance. It was a slowly run affair with nothing able to make ground from towards the rear of the field, leaving the four-year-old flat-footed when trying to get into clear running. This 1650m contest should have a genuine tempo throughout, giving Patch Of Time every chance to burst down the centre of the course under Karis Teetan. Next Best Race 3 – #9 Patch Of Time (2) 4yo Gelding | T: Cody Mo | J: Karis Teetan (54kg) Bet with Bet365 Best Value: Star Line Star Line is yet to bother the judge in seven Hong Kong starts but appears to be building to a peak performance at his third attempt in Class 4 company. The gelding by Dissident had his best showing at Happy Valley on February 28 behind Raging Blizzard, hitting the line well over the 1200m. The step up to 1650m should be ideal, and at a massive price with online bookmakers, Star Line warrants an each-way ticket. What Warwick Farm Races Where Warwick Farm Racecourse – 2 Hume Hwy, Warwick Farm NSW 2170 When Wednesday, June 26, 2024 First Race 12:25pm AEST Visit Dabble Warwick Farm Racecourse is the destination for metro racing on Wednesday afternoon, with a rejigged eight-race program set for decision after Saturday’s postponed meeting at Randwick. The $200,000 Listed Civic Stakes (1400m) headlines the action, with a quality field of 15 engaged. The rail is in the true position all the way around, and with sunny skies forecast in the lead-up, participants can expect a Soft 5 surface for race-day. Civic Stakes Pick: Strait Acer Strait Acer has failed to record a victory in six starts this preparation; however, the Civic Stakes appears to be his best opportunity to break the drought. The son of Headwater struck a deteriorating surface at Doomben in the Group 3 BRC Sprint (1350m) on May 25 and was left flat-footed in the home straight. The Group 1 placegetter gets in well with 57kg on his back, and with Tim Clark likely to slot into the perfect stalking position from barrier four, Strait Acer should get every chance to return to winning ways. Civic Stakes Race 7 – #4 Strait Acer (4) 4yo Gelding | T: Edward Cummings | J: Tim Clark (57kg) +750 with PlayUp Best Bet at Warwick Farm: Tarpaulin Tarpaulin was tested against some the best two-year-olds in the country last preparation. He ran fourth of six runners at Randwick on December 23 behind the likes of Straight Charge and Erno’s Cube, with the son of Harry Angel sticking to the task gamely despite being well beaten by 4.5 lengths. He has caught the eye at the trials since, and with James McDonald drawn to get a soft run from gate one, expect Tarpaulin to prove his class first-up. Best Bet Race 2 – #11 Tarpaulin (1) 2yo Colt | T: James Cummings | J: James McDonald (57kg) +100 with Unibet Next Best at Warwick Farm: Gram The James Cummings-trained Gram returns after 31 weeks off the scene and appears primed to strike first-up. The son of Exceed And Excel was impressive on debut last campaign, managing to find the minor money at Newcastle on November 18 with an explosive finish. His jump-out win at Rosehill on June 11 suggests he’s flying, and although McDonald will need to drag back from barrier 11, watch for this progressive two-year-old to launch down the centre of the course late. Next Best Race 3 – #13 Gram (11) 2yo Colt | T: James Cummings | J: James McDonald (56.5kg) +125 with Bet365 Best Value at Warwick Farm: Space Age Space Age looks set to peak after a bold effort at Randwick on June 8. The European import hit the line well despite the unsuitable conditions, with the four-year-old unable to sprint effectively on the Heavy 9 surface. Getting back on top of the ground should be ideal third-up, and with Molly Bourke taking 3kg off his back as he steps up to the mile for the first time in Australia, Space Age gets his best chance for success since arriving at the Ciaron Maher barn. Best Value Race 5 – #4 Space Age (5) 4yo Gelding | T: Ciaron Maher | J: Molly Bourke (a3kg) (60.5kg) +1600 with Neds Warwick Farm Wednesday quaddie – 26/6/2024 Warwick Farm quadrella selections Wednesday, June 26, 2024 4-8-11-14 4-6-7-8-11 1-4-8-14 1-5-9-16 Horse racing tips View the full article

What Doomben Races Where Doomben Racecourse – 75 Hampden St, Ascot QLD 4007 When Wednesday, June 26, 2024 First Race 11:43am AEST Visit Dabble Queensland racing will return to Doomben Racecourse this Wednesday afternoon for a very competitive nine-race card. The track was rated as a Soft 6 at the time of acceptances; however, with no rain forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, it is expected that the surface will improve before the meeting begins. The rail will be in the +6m position for the entire circuit, with racing set to kick off at 11:43am AEST. Best Bet at Doomben: Matisse Anthony & Sam Freedman will send Matisse to Doomben for her first start in Queensland following a winless maiden preparation in Melbourne. Although the daughter of Microphone is still a maiden, she has Group 2 and Group 3 placings to her name and finished seventh in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes in her most recent start. This assignment will be much easier than her first three starts, and with even luck, Matisse should prove way too good for her rivals. Best Bet Race 2 – #12 Matisse (3) 2yo Filly | T: Anthony & Sam Freedman | J: Blake Shinn (56kg) Bet with PlayUp Next Best at Doomben: Malarina Malarina is yet to miss the placings from seven career races, and the Annabel Neasham-trained filly overcame some difficulties in running to produce one of her best performances behind the smart Acid Wash at the Sunshine Coast last start. Jag Guthman-Chester will push forward from barrier 13 to settle behind the speed, and if Malarina shows the same turn of foot as she did last time, she will prove hard to hold out. Next Best Race 9 – #11 Malarina (13) 3yo Filly | T: Annabel Neasham | J: Jag Guthman-Chester (57.5kg) Bet with Neds Next Best Again at Doomben: Steel King Steel King was well backed first-up at this track over 1110m on June 6, running home nicely without threatening the winner to finish third. The son of Deep Field took ground off the winner in the final 100m, however, indicating that a rise in trip second-up should suit. From barrier six, Robbie Dolan can settle midfield off the fence before peeling out wide on the home turn and allowing Steel King to let down with a strong finish. Alfriston will line up at Cambridge on Wednesday. Photo: Kenton Wright (Race Images) Cambridge trainer Chris Wood will have strong chances on the flat and over jumps this week at three different venues. Closer to home, he will be represented by Alfriston on his home synthetic track on Wednesday and by Emmy Dazzler at Thursday’s rescheduled Te Aroha meeting, while Smug will head south to Hastings. The latter has Saturday’s Hawke’s Bay Hurdle (3100m) on his program following a bold showing to finish runner-up in the Waikato Hurdle (3200m). “It was a good run last time and he’s very well, I am very happy with him,” Wood said. Complacent six-year-old Smug has taken well to the jumping game with a win and three placings from seven attempts and finished fourth in last year’s Great Northern Hurdle (4200m). Alfriston has been prominent in both runs this preparation and will benefit from Tayla Mitchell’s 1kg claim. “He races well on the poly tracks and I sent him down to Palmerston North for a couple of runs and he went two good races,” Wood said. “Their circumference isn’t as big as Cambridge and when you get back and loop the field the frontrunners get away down on the inside. “Both times he got home well, but the leaders got away on the turn. He has come through those runs well and I’m very happy with him.” Stablemate Side Eye, also to be ridden by Mitchell, has to up his game. “He has been a bit disappointing, he needs to step up in his next couple of starts or retirement could be looming,” Wood said. “He has done a good job and he also races well here on the track. We’ve had a bit of work done on his back, the chiropractor had a look at him and found him out in a couple of places. “He’s bright and been working well and we’ll take the blinkers off and try a new bridle and see if that helps.” Boxmoss will make his debut and will be partnered by Warren Kennedy, who rode the son of Vadamos when second in a lead-up trial on the course. “He has wanted to work quite strongly and we’ve finally got him to settle a bit,” Wood said. “I said to Warren the other day let him flop out of the gates and find his feet and he ran home strongly.” Kennedy will also be aboard in-form contender Emmy Dazzler at Te Aroha. “She’s come into form and will cope with the track, so she’s a nice chance,” Wood said. The Embellish filly was a strong finishing last-start second over the course and distance to follow up a previous third on her local synthetic track. Meanwhile, Wood has Listed Marton Cup (2200m) winner and Group 3 Wellington Cup (3200m) placegetter Canheroc back in work. “He’s in the stable and looks very good and You Say D’Orsay is back as well,” Wood said. “He’s had two wins and two seconds from four runs and he’s among the nicest lot of young horses I’ve had for a long time, so I’m looking forward to the new season.” Horse racing news View the full article

Shaune Ritchie pictured with Mahrajaan following his victory in last year’s Group 3 New Zealand Cup (3200m). Photo: Race Images South Shaune Ritchie and Colm Murray are hoping a bit of luck can guide their three-year-old contender home on Wednesday at Cambridge’s Synthetic meeting. The local training partnership are co-owners of Eight Lucky Prawns, a son of Rageese who has been defied his breakthrough success by the narrowest of margins in two of his three career starts to date. “His last two runs have been good, he’s really turned a corner since going up to Ruakaka and he needed to,” Ritchie said. “He’s been held up a little bit on the corner in both of his last two starts which has probably cost him the win both times.” Ritchie hopes he can perform for the remainder of the ownership group who combined to purchase him at the 2021 Weanling Sales. “The draw (13) is a nuisance, but the fact that we don’t ride him hard out of the gates means he should get a good track into the race and hopefully, if there’s good pace up front, he should be the horse to beat,” Ritchie said. “We bought him from the weanling sales with my horse dentist, my part-time farrier and a guy who works for Majestic. It was just a few of the boys in a punting syndicate who won six or seven grand, so we went to the sales and bought him. “I dare say the bar will be lit up at my place if the horse can win on Wednesday because it’s a walk home from there.” Michael McNab will return from a week off riding after falling at Te Rapa on June 15 and he will partner Eight Lucky Prawns, while Courtney Barnes takes the reins on Rocket Lad. A five-year-old by Preferment, Rocket Lad has won three of four starts on the poly-track, an affinity he shares with multiple runners in the Rating 75 contest. “He’s got a good reputation on the synthetic, but I was just going through the runners today and of nine runners there are 20 wins on the synthetic between them, so he’s not the only one that fancies the track,” Ritchie said. “He has had the one run back now so he’s still building, but with a bit of natural improvement and stepping out to the 1550, which he has won three-from-three on the track at that distance, he should be hard to beat. “It’s going to be a good competitive race, and a lot of those horses will probably end up in the poly final in a couple of months.” The stable’s remaining runners include Turnmeon, Goldburg, and Evana Trumpalo. “Turnmeon wasn’t finding the line in a few of his races last prep and had been disappointing on the whole, but he’s had a wind surgery and that seems to have sharpened him up,” Ritchie said. “A mile first-up was a bit of an ask after several months away from the races, and he just peaked in the last bit at Ruakaka. 2000m on the poly should be a nice race for him, his ability says that he’s better than this grade so he should be highly competitive. “Goldburg’s form isn’t as bad as it looks, he hasn’t run for a while and he just ran out of form last prep. “He’s got a good record on the poly, and if he can position up fourth or fifth he should get a nice run. He’s probably our best value looking at the odds, and one that should be put in the place multis.” Evana Trumpalot is a half-brother by Tivaci to Catalyst, who won the Group 1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas (1600m) of 2020. “He’s a real enigma, he’s got a few tricks up his sleeve,” Ritchie said. “He’s shown us a fair bit, and he’s a half to a horse than won the 2000 Guineas so he’s got the pedigree. “I would’ve liked to see him get a softer draw first-up (15), but he doesn’t have any points so he might not get a start in two-week’s time if we don’t run here. He’ll be ridden cold so he’s probably more of a watch than a trust.” Horse racing news View the full article

Trust In You is being set for a potentially lucrative spring campaign. Photo: Kenton Wright (Race Images) Group Three winner Trust In You made his first public outing of his preparation at Pukekohe on Tuesday, with trainers Grant Cooksley and Bruce Wallace eyeing a potentially lucrative spring campaign with the rising six-year-old. The son of Sweynesse was one of the top staying performers of the summer, winning the Stayers Championship Final (2400m) and Group 3 Queen Elizabeth II Cup (2400m) at Pukekohe on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day respectively, and was runner-up in the Nathans Memorial (2200m) at Ellerslie. He returned to Pukekohe on Tuesday to compete in a pipe-opener over 800m, and Cooksley was satisfied with his fourth placed run. “He just had a run over 800m to bring him on a little bit and he went quite well,” Cooksley said. “He is just getting stronger as he gets older, and he has come back really good, I am quite happy with him.” Spring feature targets await Trust In You, with Sydney being the favoured destination at this stage of his preparation. “We are thinking about going to Sydney for the Metropolitan (Group 1, 2400m), but we will just see how he comes up,” Cooksley said. Trust In You was joined in his heat by new stablemate Meaningful Star, who pleased with his third placed hit-out. The Irish-bred gelding was formerly trained in Hong Kong by Francis Lui, for whom he won four races up to Class 2 level. Cooksley said they are still learning about the son of Pivotal and are yet to map out a spring plan for the horse with an 87 rating. “I don’t know much about the horse,” Cooksley said. “The owner rang us about six or seven months ago, we gave him a bit of work, put him out and have brought him back and gave him a run around (today) to see what he can do. It was quite a good trial. “We have no plans for him at the moment, we will just see what happens.” Meanwhile, promising juvenile So Naïve has returned to work alongside Group Three winner Sacred Satono. “The plan (with Sacred Satono) is to go to the Foxbridge (Group 2, 1200m) and then the first leg at Hastings (Group 1 Tarzino Trophy, 1400m).” Horse racing news View the full article

Dream Winner is a three-time winner in Hong Kong. Dream Winner set the track alight last season with three wins from as many starts and Frankie Lor’s former boom sprinter emerges from the sidelines on Wednesday at Happy Valley. The Exosphere four-year-old won his first three races by nearly 10 lengths combined, before returning this term for five starts – all of which have seen him go unplaced, while his best effort was a close-up fourth behind Group 1 performers Lucky With You and Flying Ace. The 81-rating Dream Winner hasn’t raced since January due to a setback which required remedial surgery and a stint at Conghua. He has trialled twice ahead of his comeback. “He had a knee problem; we removed a chip. It took a long time and he’s since trialled twice at Conghua, but it’s not easy to find a race for him. So, we’ll run him here. He’s raced at Happy Valley once before,” Lor said. Dream Winner (120lb) faces stiff opposition, including the rapidly improving Copartner Prance (128lb), who is in quest of a sixth straight triumph. Superb Capitalist (132lb) is also engaged and chases a streak of his own – three wins in a row. Dream Winner crossed the line first in a recent barrier trial at Conghua over 1000m on turf. “We’ll see how he runs; it’s been a long time since he has raced. He trialled ok at Conghua, but the trials are different to Sha Tin,” Lor said. “I think this horse needs a little bit further. He had gate speed in his first season, so he could win three times over 1000 metres, but I think 1400 metres is his distance.” Seasons Wit (127lb), Gummy Gummy (125lb), Harmony N Blessed (124lb), Copartner Ambition (122lb), Sing Dragon (122lb) and Reward Smile (120lb) also feature. Engaged in an enthralling battle for the 2023/24 trainers’ championship, Pierre Ng takes five runners to Happy Valley as he aims to reinforce his lead over Francis Lui (65-63). Ka Ying Cheer (122lb) headlines the handler’s quintet, drawn sweetly in barrier one with Alexis Badel up. “Hopefully we can sit behind the pace or just roll along with the leader. He’s getting more and more mature,” Ng said. The 63-rater had a short break during this season. He has won once from eight outings and boasts five other top three finishes across his career. “He’s still improving and he’s a bit like Greenwich. We gave him a break in the middle of the season and planned to bring him back out late in the season,” Ng said. Greenwich won last Sunday at Sha Tin after an extended break. Ka Ying Cheer returned in April for three races after last featuring at the end of December, 2023. “Ka Ying Cheer has been running well and he was unlucky last start, especially with that draw (10),” Ng said. Ka Ying Cheer missed by a neck to California Touch last outing. The four-year-old faces formidable opposition, including Kaholo Angel (135lb), Happy Fat Cat (131lb), California Deeply (123lb) and Kyrus Dragon (121lb). Horse racing news View the full article
