  1. Delphillius will contest the Entain/NZB Insurance Pearl Series (1200m) at Riccarton’s synthetic meeting on Wednesday. Photo: Race Images South Lance Robinson won’t have to trek too far this week, with the Riccarton trainer set to line-up five runners at his home track’s synthetic double-header meetings on Wednesday and Thursday. Robinson is hopeful he can strike early on the opening day, with his two contenders Highland Fling and Delphillius both finishing runner-up on the surface in their last starts, and he is hoping they can go one better. “Highland Fling runs well on the synthetic, he really enjoys it,” Robinson said. “He has come up really well this year. He has gone two top races, he has got a good draw (4) tomorrow, so he should run well. “Delphillius has a better draw (5) tomorrow and I have put Kendra (Bakker) on to claim three (kilograms). She races up on the speed and loves the synthetic, so she should be very competitive.” Robinson will return to Riccarton’s polytrack on Thursday to line-up Let’s Go, and Anneliese and Waihora Mist in the Entain – NZB Insurance Pearl Series Race (1600m). “Let’s Go trialled well on it (synthetic track) earlier on and she has just had a couple of minor issues, so she has had a bit of a break,” Robinson said. “She is coming up nicely but possibly may just need a run on Thursday and is mare that likes a wet track too. But we will just get a guide on her and see how she goes tomorrow. “It is an awkward draw (13) for Anneliese, but Warren (Kennedy) is on and he will work it out, but she should be very hard to beat. “Waihora Miss is first-up and has been working well. I don’t think she has ever raced on the synthetic, but she was in at Timaru the other day and of course they called it off. It is a good race at home to step her off in. She is a mare that loves winter tracks, so whatever she does on Thursday she will really improve on.” Horse racing news View the full article

  3. What Wyong Races Where Wyong Race Club – 71-73 Howarth St, Wyong NSW 2259 When Thursday, June 13, 2024 First Race 12:15pm AEST Visit Dabble Wyong Race Club is the destination for NSW racing on Thursday afternoon, with the first of eight races set to get underway at 12:15pm local time. The rail is out +4m the entire circuit, and with sunny skies forecast in the lead-up, punters should expect a genuine Good track for race-day. Check out all the best bets and quaddie numbers HorseBetting.com.au down below. Best Bet at Wyong: Samphire Green Samphire Green got a pass mark on his Australian debut at Newcastle on May 25 and should strip fitter heading into this second-up assignment. The European import hit a flat spot with 400m left to travel, regaining his momentum in the final furlong to get within three lengths of Invincible Emma. The 1600m appears ideal for the son of Zoustar, and with barrier one giving Tyler Schiller the chance to lob on the back of the leading pair, Samphire Green should get every chance to secure his first-career win. Best Bet Race 2 – #1 Samphire Green (1) 3yo Colt | T: John O’Shea | J: Tyler Schiller (55kg) Bet with Bet365 Next Best at Wyong: Presides Presides was launching home first-up at Gosford on May 16 but narrowly missed out on his maiden victory by a nose. The son of Lonhro got a pair further back in the run than Zac Lloyd would’ve liked on that occasion, with the leader giving a strong kick as the three-year-old chased gamely, lacking race-day fitness. Kerrin McEvoy gets the task of slotting in for cover from barrier 14, but provided Presides can gain an economical run in transit, this progressive James Cummings-trained gelding should figure in this. Next Best Race 7 – #1 Presides (14) 3yo Gelding | T: James Cummings | J: Kerrin McEvoy (59kg) Bet with Neds Best Value at Wyong: Silvakia Silvakia looks perfectly placed second-up after a testing return at Kembla Grange on May 18. The four-year-old was asked to make inroads from the rear of the field against genuine sprinting types, with the Brad Widdup-trained mare unable to match motors on the Heavy surface. Getting back on top of the ground should be ideal, and with a soft draw (4) allowing Zac Wadick to stalk from closer order, Silvakia should be given every chance to make amends at an each-way price with horse racing betting sites. Best Value Race 3 – #6 Silvakia (4) 4yo Mare | T: Brad Widdup | J: Zac Widick (a2) (57kg) Bet with PlayUp Wyong Thursday quaddie picks – 13/6/2024 Wyong quadrella selections Thursday, June 13, 2024 1-2-3-6-9 1-3-5-6 1-2-3-5-8 4-6-7 Horse racing tips

  6. Luke Currie returns to scale on Barbaric Lad after winning at Pakenham on February 22. (Photo by Ross Holburt/Racing Photos) Roll The Dice Racing hopes that stepping up to 1600 metres for the first time in this weekend’s Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) can spark improvement in their juvenile colt, Barbaric Lad. After finishing third on his debut at Sandown-Lakeside on February 7, the son of Brutal broke his maiden at his second attempt just a fortnight later before being sent for a spell in the paddock. Returning last month, Barbaric Lad placed fifth in the Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial Classic (1200m) before finishing sixth in the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m), three lengths behind the winner Broadsiding, who will also race on Saturday. “He’s a bit of a work in progress, but Anthony and Sam (Freedman) have got a bit of a wrap on him, and they think he’s going to make a nice kind of miler,” Roll The Dice’s Steve Travaglia told Racing.com. “He was probably ridden a bit close last start as we were hoping to be back where the favourite Broadsiding was and just really smash the line, but he got knocked around a little bit. “Still, the 1600 metres will sort a few out and he’s a real top three or four chance and that can set him up for a nice spring. “The idea is to spell him up there (Queensland) as well. He can have the winter up there and he can come back down to Melbourne. “He’s got some maturing to do but he’s got good knees and good legs, so I think we’ll have some fun in the spring with him somewhere, if we place him right.” 2024 J.J. 7. Stradbroke Handicap contender, Magic Time. (Photo by George Sal/Racing Photos) Cranbourne-based trainer Grahame Begg is confident his mare, Magic Time, can return to form in Saturday’s Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) following a disappointing first-up effort. After winning the All Aged Stakes (1400m) in April, the daughter of Hellbent was freshened for the Group 1 Kingsford-Smith Cup (1300m). However, her performance was hampered when another runner stepped on one of her shoes leaving the gates, causing her to finish eighth at Eagle Farm. “We think the horse outside of her started abruptly, got on the outside of her plate, and buckled it really badly,” Begg told Racing.com. “Michael (Dee, jockey) didn’t think she felt 100 percent after that point, and then she got galloped on during the race, so she was in the wars on that occasion. It was a pretty messily run race. “There were a few excuses, but she’s come through it well. I think she’s a bit of a forgotten horse… the weights are going to go up half a kilo, so she’ll have 55 and a half. “That’s a good weight for a mare, but she’s a dual Group 1 winner, so she deserves it, I guess. We’re looking forward to Saturday, the forecast is good, and it’s all positive.” 2024 Stradbroke Handicap Final Field 1. 8. What Doomben Races Where Doomben Racecourse – 75 Hampden St, Ascot QLD 4007 When Wednesday, June 12, 2024 First Race 11:58am AEST Visit Dabble The Brisbane Racing Club will host a very competitive nine-race card at Doomben this Wednesday afternoon. Although the track was rated as a Soft 5 at the time of acceptances, there is no rain on the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, and the surface should improve into the Good range before the meeting begins. The rail will be pushed out to the +9m position for the entire circuit, with the opening race scheduled to jump at 11:58am AEST. Best Bet at Doomben: Punch Lane Punch Lane was very good without winning on his Queensland debut as the Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained gelding ran home strongly to finish third behind Midnight In Tokyo over 1200m. The son of So You Think is yet to miss the placings when second-up (2:1-0-1) and three of his four career wins have come in races over 1300m to 1400m in distance. Although barrier 12 looks to be a concern, Craig Williams will attempt to settle midfield off the fence, and if he doesn’t have to cover extra ground mid-race, Punch Lane will return to the winners’ circle. Best Bet Race 8 – #13 Punch Lane (12) 4yo Gelding | T: Anthony & Sam Freedman | J: Craig Williams (54kg) Bet with PlayUp Next Best at Doomben: Jungle Prince After dropping back in grade from the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas to a Class 1 Handicap last start and finishing second behind Brasco by less than a length over 1350m, Jungle Prince will rise in trip to 1650m third-up. The Tony & Maddysen Sears-trained gelding had to make a long searching run out wide to get into the race, but he was still able to finish his race off nicely, suggesting he is looking for longer now. James Orman has retained the ride, and from barrier one, he will be able to settle Jungle Prince closer to the speed and prove too strong late. Next Best Race 6 – #1 Jungle Prince (1) 3yo Gelding | T: Tony & Maddysen Sears | J: James Orman (60kg) Bet with Neds Best Value at Doomben: Anemacore Anemacore will step out over 2060m for the first time this Wednesday, following his good performance over 1630m at this track on May 29, where he ran home strongly into fifth place. Last preparation, the Shaun Dwyer-trained gelding raced over 1800m twice, and he proved that he could stay, so rising to 2000m plus shouldn’t be a problem. This son of Unusual Suspect will receive the run of the race from barrier one, and if Michael Rodd can get him clear with 300m to go, Anemacore will get every chance to win again. Best Value Race 4 – #1 Anemacore (1) 4yo Gelding | T: Shaun Dwyer | J: Michael Rodd (61kg) Bet with Picklebet Wednesday quaddie tips for Doomben races Doomben quadrella selections Wednesday, June 12, 2024 1-2-4 1-2-3-6-11 4-9-13 4-8-12-13 | Copy this bet straight to your betslip Horse racing tips View the full article
  9. Kerry Petrick and jockey Paul Denton are all smiles after Starton won on debut at Darwin’s Fannie Bay on Saturday. Picture: Caroline Camilleri (Fotofinish Racepix) Alice Springs trainer Kerry Petrick has won the previous two editions of the NT Derby (2050m), and she might well have another contender in 2024. Starton caught the eye in his Top End debut on Saturday, June 8, when he saluted by 4.5 lengths against fellow three-year-olds over 1200m. It was another lead-up ahead of the $75,000 Darwin Guineas (1600m) on July 6 and the $135,000 Derby on July 20. The Darwin Cup Carnival starts with the Guineas and ends on August 5 with Cup Day at Fannie Bay. Cantankerous in the gates, Starton missed the start before finding his feet, and after working his way to third passing the 600m finished full of running in the home straight and was in fact easing up on the line. The son of Tosen Stardom had five starts for Mornington trainer Jerome Hunter where he was placed in three Pakenham maidens over 1200m (third) and 1400m (second and third). “I have bought quite a few horses off Jerome over the years,” Petrick said. “I’ve been fortunate enough to get the phone call in regards to Starton, the timing was perfect – it couldn’t have been more perfect actually. “We’ve had him for a few months now, we prepared to bring him up here with the classics in mind. “As a maiden, he had a fair job in front of him, but the form down south is very strong, and his trackwork has been exceptional. “He’s quite unique to train, very quirky, so we really had no idea, particularly out of barrier one, how he was going to go. “The first time they jump on a dirt surface is also something unusual for them, and although he was copping some dirt, he handled it well. “He was extraordinary on Saturday, and I was super impressed with his last 50m, he basically gave me a really good feeling going towards the Guineas and the Derby. Veteran NT jockey Paul Denton, who partnered Venting and Anphina to victory in the last two Derby’s, said Starton did a few things wrong, which Petrick put down to greenness. “I believe he will take a lot out of that and only improve from that run, so it’s really exciting times ahead of us,” Petrick added. “I just think the way he raced, he showed that he is going to continue to get ground as he has potential. “His next start will be in the three-year-old 1300m race in a fortnight, and I can’t see why at this stage the mile will prove a problem to him, and then hopefully we’ll just keep working towards the Derby.” Winning three straight Derby’s would be a dream for Petrick, and just like every other trainer, she is also eyeing the $50,000 Darwin Double Bonus should Starton win the Guiness and Derby. After Venting won the Alice Springs Cup (2000m) in April, Petrick is in line to pick up the $100,000 Triple Crown bonus should the five-year-old gelding deliver in the $60,000 Chief Ministers Cup (1600m) in July and $200,000 Darwin Cup (2050m). 10. What Happy Valley Races Where Happy Valley Racecourse – Wong Nai Chung Rd, Happy Valley, Hong Kong When Wednesday, June 12, 2024 First Race 6:40pm HKT (8:40pm AEST) Visit Dabble Hong Kong racing returns to the bright lights of Happy Valley this Wednesday evening, with a bumper nine-race program lined up. The rail is in the B position the entire circuit, and with some light rainfall forecast in the lead-up, the track should be no worse than a Soft 5 prior to the opening race at 6:40pm local time. Check out our Happy Valley best bets and quaddie numbers for June 12. Best Bet: Magic Control Formerly known as Archo Nacho in Australia, Magic Control appears primed to strike, making his Hong Kong debut for the Jamie Richards barn. The son of Sioux Nation took out the Group 3 Red Anchor Stakes (1200m) before being transferred across, with the three-year-old only missing the frame once in five starts. His trials suggest he acclimatised well to his new conditions, and with Hugh Bowman taking the reins from the soft draw (4), expect Magic Control to get every chance to make an impression first-up. Best Bet Race 8 – #2 Magic Control (4) 3yo Gelding | T: Jamie Richards | J: Hugh Bowman (60.5kg) Bet with Bet365 Next Best: Ma Comet Ma Comet was the best of the beaten brigade behind Camino at this course and distance on May 15. The four-year-old got every chance, swooping along the inside running rail and hitting the front before being swallowed up in the shadows of the post. Brenton Avdulla should manage to gain a similar run from barrier six, and with no Camino in this lot to spoil the party, watch for Ma Comet to finish with the head in front. Next Best Race 6 – #1 Ma Comet (6) 4yo Gelding | T: Jamie Richards | J: Brenton Avdulla (61kg) Bet with Neds Best Value: Me Time Me Time is yet to bother the judge in five career starts but looks ready to peak getting back to the Happy Valley circuit. The son of Cracksman had no luck after being dragged back to the rear of the field at Sha Tin on May 19, running into nothing but backsides when asked for the ultimate effort. Barrier six should allow Harry Bentley to take closer order, and with big odds available with Hong Kong horse racing bookmakers, punters should expect a bold sight from Me Time in this wide-open Class 4 affair. Best Value Race 3 – #9 Me Time (3) 4yo Gelding | T: Chief Stipelas Whyte | J: Harry Bentley (54kg) Bet with Picklebet Hong Kong Wednesday quaddie picks – 12/6/24 Happy Valley quadrella selections Wednesday, June 12, 2024 1-3-5-7-10 1-6-7-9-10-11 1-2 1-3-4-5-10-11 Horse racing tips

  11. What Kensington Races Where Royal Randwick Racecourse – Alison Rd, Randwick NSW 2031 When Wednesday, June 12, 2024 First Race 12:50pm AEST Visit Dabble Metro racing returns to the Kensington circuit at Randwick this Wednesday afternoon, with a quickfire seven-part program set for decision. The rail is in its true position the entire way around, and with no significant rainfall predicted in the lead-up, punters can expect the Heavy 9 surface at the time of acceptances to improve for race-day. The opening event is scheduled to get underway at 12:50pm local time. Best Bet: I Found You I Found You debuts for the Peter & Paul Snowden barn on the back of two impressive barrier trials. The daughter of I Am Invincible hammered the line in her most recent work at Randwick on May 16, careering past Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) winner Broadsiding in the process. She gains the services of James McDonald, and provided he can lob on the back of the leading pair from stall two, I Found You must be considered the one to beat in the opener. Best Bet Race 1 – #7 I Found You (2) 2yo Filly | T: Peter & Paul Snowden | J: James McDonald (55.5kg) -125 with Unibet Next Best: Father’s Day Father’s Day appears set to peak third-up into the campaign. The Bjorn Baker-trained gelding held ground impressively behind Golden Path at Randwick on May 25, giving a bold kick under Rachel King with the lightweight in BM88 company. Coming back to a BM78 means Father’s Day will need to lug 60.5kg on his back to victory, but with Chad Schofield likely to employ similar front-running tactics, this guy will prove hard to get by in the concluding stages. Next Best Race 3 – #1 Father’s Day (1) 6yo Gelding | T: Bjorn Baker | J: Chad Schofield (60.5kg) +200 with Bet365 Best Value: Grand Larceny Nothing went right for Grand Larceny first-up at Sandown on May 8. The three-year-old was sent forward but quickly got cast wide without cover throughout the journey, leaving the Zoustar colt fading out of the contest a long way from home. His maiden victory at Newcastle on October 10 is a greater indicator of his potential upside, and with Zac Lloyd back in the saddle from the soft draw (2), Grand Larceny appears ready to get back to his brilliant best second-up. Best Value Race 5 – #10 Grand Larceny (2) 3yo Colt | T: Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes | J: Zac Lloyd (59kg) +1300 with Neds Wednesday quaddie tips for Kensington races Randwick-Kensington quadrella selections Wednesday, June 12, 2024 7-9-11-12 3-6-8-10 1-3-4-6-7-10 1-8-9-11 | Copy this bet straight to your betslip Horse racing tips

  12. Trainer Stephen Marsh. Photo: Trish Dunell A flurry of winners last month has put Stephen Marsh in a strong position to hit the century mark for the third season on the bounce. His stable is currently sitting in second spot on the National Trainers’ Premiership with 88 successes, having posted previous tallies of 100 and 104. While attaining the three figures isn’t Marsh’s top priority, it has now come more into focus. “The 100 wins wasn’t exactly a goal, it is a good feeling though to get there and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to get it again,” Marsh said. Results through May have made another century a more realistic achievement. “I thought a month ago that we weren’t going to be a chance of getting there, but we got 13 wins in May which doesn’t usually happen,” Marsh said. “We’re only 12 wins off it now, so we’re a realistic chance of getting there again. “It’s really nice to reach the century, it’s not our main focus and when we started the season the aim was to win better races and more prizemoney.” Marsh’s operation has topped $5 million in earnings and into double figures for Group or Listed victories. “The stable has had 10 Group or Listed winners and that’s been our best, so at some stage it would be nice to beat that,” he said. Marsh will have a big team in action at Wednesday’s meeting on the synthetic track at Cambridge including multiple contenders in the Entain/NZB Insurance Pearl Series Race (1550m). Arrowette, Lovaci and Almaceta are an in-form trio who give the stable a quality hand. “They are all racing very well and have drawn decent enough gates, so everything looks good about them,” Marsh said. “They are very hard to split, they’re well-placed and should all be hard to beat. “It really depends on the runs they get, Arrowette has been going super on the synthetic and the other two girls are bit unknown on it.” Zoustar mare Arrowette has placed in all three runs on the all-weather course, including a runner-up finish at her most recent outing. Lovaci was a last-start winner at Taupo while Almaceta was a late-closing fifth when resuming at Te Rapa. “It’s one of those days when we’ve got a good, even spread of horses and I like the four in Rating 65 over 2000m, they are all going well,” Marsh said. The quartet in the Pryde’s Easifeed Handicap is headed by last-start course and distance winner Hoard The Bourbon with ample back-up from The Green Keeper, Pow Tong and Eve’s Song. Marsh is also expecting a bold showing from a daughter of Per Incanto. “Hasstobefast is back on the synthetic with (Michael) McNab on and the side winkers, so we’ve got a few good all-round chances,” he said. A three-time winner, the five-year-old ran fifth in the Group 2 Auckland Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes (1400m) before a break and will have improved with her resuming run for fifth. 13. Sharp ‘N’ Smart has returned to Team Rogerson’s Hamilton barn ahead of his spring preparation. Photo: Trish Dunell Hamilton trainers Graeme and Debbie Rogerson have enjoyed welcoming back a number of their stable stars this week ahead of their spring preparations. Reigning New Zealand Horse of the Year Sharp ‘N’ Smart was part of that contingent, and his trainers are hoping he can return to the form that led him to snaring New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing’s top honour. “The good horses have all come back in this week, including Sharp ‘N’ Smart,” Graeme Rogerson said. “He had a viral complaint, and he didn’t quite run up to his best last prep, but he looks magnificent, he has grown into a real horse.” The Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) was Sharp ‘N’ Smart’s primary objective this season prior to his viral infection, and Rogerson is hoping they can get their multiple Group One winner to Australasia’s most iconic staying race this year, electing to bypass the Hawke’s Bay Spring Carnival. “We will aim for the Caulfield (Group 1, 2400m) and Melbourne Cups,” Rogerson said. “He probably won’t head to Hastings, but we will just play it by ear. He will have a run here in a sprint and then go off to Australia probably. “If he finds his best form, he is a very good horse. He had four months out and has come back in looking beautiful.” While Hastings isn’t on the cards for Sharp ‘N’ Smart, it is certainly in the picture for Group Two performer Just As Sharp. “Just As Sharp will run in the Foxbridge Plate (Group 2, 1200m) and the Tarzino (Group 1, 1400m) if he isn’t sold. We will just see what happens,” Rogerson said. A couple of the stable’s younger brigade also have Rogerson excited about the new season. “Domain Ace has come back looking enormous, he is going to be running in the Northland Breeders’ Stakes (Group 3, 1200m),” he said. “I like a Tarzino filly called Tarzador, who won a trial, and we have got a lot of young untired horses.” Horse racing news View the full article
  14. Solidify winning at Otaki on Saturday. Photo: Peter Rubery (Race Images Palmerston North) Solidify notched up his fifth career victory on Saturday for trainers Graeme and Debbie Rogerson. The three-year-old son of Redwood was eased back early to sit midfield by jockey Jonathan Riddell, who bided his time before pressing the go button at the 600m mark, launching his charge three-wide to loop the field. Solidify continued his momentum down the straight to score a 1.5-length victory over Phats, with a further half neck back to Princess Elly in third. Solidify was building into a return to the winner’s stall, having placed in his four runs since the Group 1 New Zealand Derby (2400m) in March, including a runner-up effort behind subsequent Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m) placegetter Moonlight Magic in the Group 3 Championship Stakes (2100m). “He’s getting better, he raced well and he’s starting to become a stayer,” Graeme Rogerson said. “He hasn’t been straightforward, he can race a bit fierce, and he is learning. He had no luck in the Derby, he got caught out wide, and everything went wrong. It might have been a bit soon for him too. His runs since then have all been good. We have persevered with him to make him into a staying horse.” Rogerson is undecided on Solidify’s next step, with the Hamilton horseman weighing up between a few winter assignments or a freshen-up. “I haven’t decided where we will head, we will just play it by ear. He will tell us,” he said. “He might run at Tauranga in the Open race and we might look at the Taumarunui Gold Cup. If we decided to put him out now, I decided to put in a nomination for the Winter Cup (Group 3, 1600m).” Horse racing news View the full article
  15. Trainer Richard Baltas has lost his petition for a writ of mandate against the California Horse Racing Board (CHRB), ending a legal tussle stemming from multiple charges of administering race-day supplements to his horses at Santa Anita in the spring of 2022. In a ruling publicly posted in early December of 2022, the CHRB handed Baltas a one-year suspension and a $10,000 fine for the alleged race-day administration of substances to his horses more than 20 times over roughly a three-week span the prior spring, and captured on surveillance video. The CHRB has strict rules on what can be administered to a racehorse of up to 24 and 48 hours of post time, with only Lasix a permitted medication on race-day. The judgement of LA Superior Court Judge, Curtis Kin, found that while both parties agreed that Baltas's trainees had been administered substances not permitted on race-day, “no post-race samples from any of the horses tested revealed the presence of a prohibited substance”–a distinction the trainer is keen to highlight. “Mr. Baltas accepts responsibility for administrating (sic) the substance in question on race day but believes the public and horse race industry should know the product in question was not a drug, was not prohibited in list of prohibited substances under CHRB Rule 1843.2, and certainly was not administrated as a performance enhancing drug,” wrote Baltas's attorney, Steven Haney, in a press release on the ruling. The CHRB declined to comment on the judge's ruling. The product in question was “X-Treme Air Boost,” a herbal paste believed to contain higenamine and paenol. According to the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), higenamine is a chemical found in a variety of plants and can act as an anti-asthmatic to open up airways. Paenol is also a plant extract. Neither are specifically classified by the Association for Racetrack Commissioners International uniform guidelines. Baltas's suspension lifted at the end of last year. So far this year, he has trained 13 winners from 62 runners, including GIII Monrovia S. winner Ag Bullet (Twirling Candy). Back in May of 2022, surveillance cameras fitted across the Santa Anita backstretch caught one of Baltas's employees administer via oral syringe a substance to one of the stable's runners within hours of its scheduled race. A subsequent retroactive review of surveillance footage from Baltas's barn prompted the CHRB to file a formal complaint. At the order of track management and regulators, Baltas did not make any California starts after early May 2022. He was formally charged that December. On April 4 this year, Judge Kin presided over a writ of mandate hearing in which Baltas sought damages and a reversal of the CHRB's initial findings, among other requests. While the judge found that Baltas had breached the rules on what can be administered on race-day, he was not in breach of an aspect of CHRB rule 1887, which pertains to the trainer “absolute insurer” clause, wrote Haney in the press release. The rule states that “If the chemical or other analysis of urine or blood test samples or other tests, prove positive showing the presence of any prohibited drug substance defined in Rule 1843.1 of this division, the trainer of the horse may be fined, his/her license suspended or revoked, or be ruled of.” According to the judge, none of the Baltas trainees tested positive post-race for prohibited substances. According to Baltas, he has no intention of pursuing any further legal proceedings related to the case. “My time is served,” said Baltas. “Did I make a mistake? Yes. [The suspension] was a year-and-a-half. That's just the way things are. And I've had to start over. I'm grateful to be back.” The post Baltas Loses Petition Against CHRB; No Prohibited Substances Detected, Says Judge appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions. 19. Michael Hardy, the former Head of Sales for Goffs and general manager of Margaux Farm next Lexington, has been appointed as the new director of farm operations and property at Jim and Dana Bernhard's Pin Oak Stud, officials at the nursery announced Monday. Born into a racing family in Northern Ireland, Hardy gained early experience on his family's stud farm before completing a degree in Equine Science at the University of Limerick. He was a participant in the Irish National Stud's Management Course in addition to the Godolphin Flying Start program. Hardy spent six years at Margaux, helping it expand and develop into a premier breeding and training facility before returning to Ireland in a bloodstock role with Goffs for the last three years. “It's an incredible opportunity to return to Kentucky in this new role,” stated Hardy. “The Bernhard family has such a clear and inspiring vision for the future of Pin Oak Stud. Building on the legacy left by Ms. Abercrombie, I am thrilled to help bring that vision to life and contribute to a successful future for the farm.” Added Pin Oak Vice President Ben Bernhard: “Michael Hardy is a great addition to the Pin Oak family. His proven leadership abilities, extensive knowledge of the industry, and passion for innovation will be instrumental in shaping the future of the farm.” The post Hardy Appointed Director of Farm Operations and Property at Pin Oak appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions. 22. 'Woodbine: Free Rein', a documentary series produced about womens' experiences in horse racing, has taken top honors at the Hashtag Sports Awards in New York, according to a release from the Woodbine communications office. Woodbine's content team, including producers Alanna Nolan and Nathan Riddell and director Jake Thompson, were recognized in the 'Best Women's Sports Content' category for episode four of 'Free Rein', entitled, The World-Class Women of Woodbine. The episode focused on the unique nature of horse racing, where women jockeys compete head-to-head with their male counterparts as well as the meaningful presence of women in the game. Other finalists included the LPGA, FOX Sports, PUMA, Clemson Athletics and The Players' Tribune. In episode four, viewers are introduced to successful horsewomen, including trainer Catherine Day-Phillips and jockeys Sofia Vives and Emma-Jayne Wilson, who lay out the biases, dangers and triumphs facing them each time they enter a starting gate. “This episode is a real reflection of the uniqueness of our sport and the people that work so very hard day in and day out,” said Jonathan Rubinoff, Woodbine's Director of Content and Social Media. “Woodbine has one of the most diverse jockey colonies in the world and this story shines a light on the incredible individuals that make it possible for women and men to compete against one another.” Now in its sixth year, the Hashtag Sports Awards bring the sports, media, and entertainment industries together to celebrate excellence in engagement that inspires new and creative fan experiences.” The post Woodbine Docuseries Earns Hashtag Sports Award appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions. 23. All the signs are that Tweenhills Farm's first-crop sire Kameko is taking off and the son of Kitten's Joy had his fourth winner in under a fortnight on Monday as Juddmonte's homebred filly Ardeur (GB) dominated her six-furlong maiden at Pontefract. Sent off the 30-100 favourite having finished fourth in a well-contested novice at York last month, the Ralph Beckett-trained daughter of the G2 Duchess of Cambridge S. third Chaleur (GB) (Dansili {GB}) was quickly in control at the head of affairs under Rossa Ryan. Asked to stretch turning for home, the relative of the operation's sire Bated Breath (GB) by Chaleur's sire Dansili responded willingly to record a six-length success from Lady Luzon (Ire) (Pinatubo {Ire}). 24. Highlighted by a 17-1 upset victory by Dornoch (Good Magic) in the $2-million GI Belmont S., the four-day Belmont Stakes Racing Festival drew better than 120,000 racing fans to Saratoga for the unprecedented event, approximately double the attendance for the two most recent runnings at Belmont Park. Thursday's opening day of the Festival featured a pair of $150,000 stakes for the 2-year-old males and females and the first of the weekend's 14 graded stakes, the GII Belmont Gold Cup. In front of an announced crowd of 22,027, renowned Australian commentator Matt Hill described the action as The Grey Wizard (Ire) (Caravaggio) earned berth in the G1 Lexus Melbourne Cup. Some 27,529 passed through the turnstiles for Friday's program, anchored by the GI Acorn S. A pop-up thunderstorm delayed the start of the first of the afternoon's four graded races, the GII Intercontinental S. but the track surfaces were not unduly affected and the day ended on a high note with GI Kentucky Oaks-winning 'TDN Rising Star' Thorpedo Anna (Fast Anna) tightening her grip on the 3-year-old filly division in the Acorn. Belmont Day featured nine graded events, six at the elite level, and was witnessed by a sell-out and capped crowd of 50,000. Fans were treated to outstanding performances by the likes of Book'em Danno (Bucchero) in the GI Woody Stephens S., a course record-setting effort in the GI Jaipur S. by Cogburn (Not This Time) and a dominating victory in the GI Manhattan S. by Godolphin's Measured Time (GB) (Frankel {GB}) in addition to the Belmont, contested over a mile and a quarter. The weather finally took a bit of a turn for the worst on Sunday, forcing the cancellation of the afternoon's turf racing and the rescheduling of the Steinmann Hurdle H., but the rains did not stop better than 20,000 from attending the final day which featured a half-dozen stakes restricted to New York-breds. Total attendance for the four-day BSRF was 120,427, compared to 62,841 last year (Thursday racing was cancelled) and 61,200 in 2022.
