Talented galloper Mascarpone (NZ) (Shooting To Win) was back in the winner’s circle at Hawke’s Bay on Saturday when winning over 1200m and the four-year-old is likely to remain at sprint distances in the near future.

“It was a terrific win and he will go to an Open Handicap 1200m race on the second day of the Hawke’s Bay Carnival,” said Graeme Rogerson, who trains in partnership with wife Debbie.

“I think we will keep him to sprinting and he will go to Christchurch for the Stewards (Gr.3, 1200m).”

Meanwhile, Rogerson was pleased with the run of Beauden (NZ) (Bullbars) in the Open Mile won by Savy Yong Blank (NZ) (Savabeel), with the Joan Egan-owned gelding lumping 62kgs and finishing 3.4 lengths from the winner.

“At this stage we are looking at running him in the Livamol (Gr.1, 2040m) and I couldn’t be happier with him. He has developed into a nice horse and was a bit gross on Saturday.”

At this stage Beauden looks a doubtful starter in the Gr.1 Windsor Park Plate (1600m).

“Nothing is set in concrete at this stage,” Rogerson said.

De La Terre (NZ) (Reliable Man) will have a freshen-up before resuming in the Gr.3 Soliloquy Stakes (1400m) at Te Rapa on October 24, having raced three-wide throughout when sixth in the Gr.3 Gold Trail Stakes (1200m) on Saturday.
