Tapit’s Flightline In A Race Of His Own In Pac Classic

Just when we thought FLIGHTLINE (c, 4, Tapit–Feathered, by Indian Charlie) couldn't get any better, he laughed in the faces of anyone questioning his ability to get 10 furlongs with an absolute demolition of the GI TVG Pacific Classic field Saturday at Del Mar. Tugging his way up to the lead as the first quarter went in :23.42, the 1-5 chalk settled in a neck second as an eager longshot pushed ahead through a :46.06 half-mile. Flightline cruised ahead of that rival a few strides later and opened up on the field with ease about two jumps later. Still kept in cruise control by Flavien Prat turning for home, the Summer Wind-bred colt was in a race of his own in the lane, cantering home a geared-down 20-length winner 1 :59.29, just .17 off the track record. Country Grammar (Tonalist) was best of the rest. Tabbed a 'TDN Rising Star' after crushing a group of maidens at Santa Anita Apr. 24, Flightline was equally dominant in a six-panel optional claimer at Del Mar when next seen Sept. 5. A jaw-dropping winner of the GI Runhappy Malibu S. Dec. 26, he proved he could over come trouble when dominating the GI Met Mile June 11 at Belmont.
