The New York Thoroughbred Breeders, Inc. (NYTB) will honor breeder and owner Vivien Malloy with a Lifetime Achievement Award for excellence, the organization said in a release Wednesday. Malloy, who owned and operated Edition Farm for more than four decades and bought her first racehorse in 1971, will be recognized at the NYTB's Awards Dinner sponsored by the New York Thoroughbred Breeding & Development Fund from 6-9 p.m. Monday, May 13 at Sacred Saratoga on the property of GMP Farm in Schuylerville. “What a thrill it was to hear I'll receive this award,” Malloy said, who first joined the NYTB board in the 1980s on the advice of the late prominent New York breeder Gerald Nielsen. “He called and she I should be on the board. I told him I needed to talk to my husband first, and Harry said “oh, don't get into anything political.' ” Among others, Malloy bred A Shin Forward (Forest Wildcat) who went on to become a Grade 1 winner in Japan and earned over $3 million, which ranks him as the third highest earning New York-bred in history “Vivien has been an integral and influential person in the development of New York breeding and racing,” said NYTB President Dr. Scott Ahlschwede. “She has been involved in every facet of our industry from breeding to ownership and standing stallions. On behalf of our board of directors and membership, we are proud to honor and recognize her lifetime contributions.” Click here to purchase tickets. Last Sunday, Apr. 21, the sixth annual PDJF Telethon shattered the previous record when the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund raised over $430,000, FanDuel TV said in Wednesday release. Presented by Lane's End Farm, the telethon was broadcast for the third consecutive year on FanDuel TV and FOX Sports's America's Day at the Races. The event, which brings Hall of Fame jockeys, FanDuel TV's on-air talent and other prominent racing personalities together to man the phone lines, has grown each year since the inception in 2018. “The PDJF is very appreciative for all the support from the over 1000 donations received during the broadcast of the Telethon,” said Nancy LaSala, PDJF President. “Without this support and the hard work of all involved this would not be possible. A special thanks to FanDuel and Lane's End for your continued support of the PDJF mission. ” There were donations from supporters across the country including major gifts from Heider Family Stables, John Stewart, Kentucky Downs, Patricia's Hope, Bobby Flay, Debbie Finley and Janie Buss. In addition, FanDuel and Lane's End each donated $100,000. Group 1 winner Bucanero Fuerte (GB) (Wootton Bassett {GB}) is unlikely to contest the G1 QIPCO 2000 Guineas and instead be pointed for the May 1 G3 Ascot Commonwealth Cup Trial S., according to trainer Adrian Murray. Murray said of the Amo Racing colourbearer, “Bucanero goes to Ascot, he's in the six-furlong race. It's highly unlikely he will go for the Guineas. “We're going to campaign him as a sprinter, his brother [Wooded (Ire)] won a Group 1 over five furlongs and he shows us an awful lot of speed. The Guineas could just kill him in the last couple of furlongs.” Third in the G2 Coventry S. at Royal Ascot last year, the bay rebounded to take the G2 Railway S. and G1 Phoenix S. in succession at the Curragh. His juvenile finale was a third to Henry Longfellow (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) in the G1 National S. in September. Murrah had an update on Elegant Man (Arrogate), who also races in the bright purple and white silks of Kia Joorabchian's operation. Runner-up in the Listed Wildwood Flower S. in December, he won a Dundalk affair in his 4-year-old bow in January, and made it two on the bounce in a Newcastle handicap in March. Murray is considering either the G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup on May 26 or the G1 Coronation Cup five days later. However, Elegant Man's participation will depend on where fellow Amo runner and Group 1 winner King Of Steel (Wootton Bassett {GB}) runs next. “He will be going for the Tattersalls Gold Cup or the Coronation Cup at Epsom,” added Murray of Elegant Man. “It will depend on where they go with King Of Steel as he's in the two of them and we will be avoiding him. Whichever he doesn't go for, we would go for. “Kia has a good hand and some nice horses. We've got a great summer to hopefully look forward to.” The post Guineas Unlikely For Bucanero Fuerte With Pavilion New Goal appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions. International Federation of Horseracing Authorities' advisor Dr. Roland Devolz has died at the age of 83, France Galop announced on Wednesday. A veterinarian, he joined the Societe d'Encouragement pour l'Amelioration des Races de Chevaux de Courses in the early 1970s when recruited by Jean Romanet. Besides working for the Societe d'Encouragement, he was invaluable in the implementation of a modernized anti-doping control through the creation of the horse racing laboratory, based on the approach initiated by Dr. Yves Bonnaire. Also one of the greatest experts of the Stud Book, Devolz assisted in setting up medical services for jockeys within the France Galop organisation. Upon retirement, he became the technical advisor to the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA) in 1994, which was then chaired by Louis Romanet. He served for almost 30 years in the latter role, and was recognised with a gift by the IFHA chair at the 2023 IFHA General Assembly in Paris last October. Devolz was also a long-standing member of the International Horse Sports Confederation Expert Committee, and frequently shared his expertise with the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) and the World Organisation for Animal Health. Henri Pouret, deputy CEO of France Galop, said, “Dr. Devolz has left a lasting mark on French and international horse racing by his competence, his foresight, his dedication and his absolutely unique personality. He was constantly concerned to make himself available at all times and to share his knowledge widely with the sole objective of guaranteeing the best administration of the races. He will be missed by many of us. France Galop has, in these sad circumstances, a heartfelt thought for his family and loved ones.” He is survived by his wife, Claude and family. His funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. at church Saint Sylvain d'Anjou on Saturday, Apr. 27, 2024. White colt Amante Bianco (Jpn) (Henny Hughes) ran out a one-length winner of the Haneda Hai at Oi Racecourse on Wednesday (video). Billed as the first leg of the NAR Japanese Dirt Triple Crown, the 1800-metre race was conducted over a sloppy surface. Second was Ammothyella (Jpn) (Bricks And Mortar), with Hraunfossar (Jpn) (Drefong) another eight lengths back in third. Bred by Northern Farm and raced by Silk Racing, the white colt was winning for the third time in five starts. He'd earlier taken the Cattleya S. in November, part of the Japan Road to the Kentucky Derby. His 3-year-old bow, on Valentine's Day, was a second-place finish in the Kumotori Sho (NAR-G3) over this course and distance. Sharing his white coat with his dam, the Kurofune mare Yukichan (Jpn), Amante Bianco has a 2-year-old half-sister named Fonte Des Neiges (Jpn) (Drefong) and a yearling half-brother by Le Vent Se Leve (Jpn). His dam, who was a three-time stakes winner, was covered by New Year's Day last spring. Her second foal, Shiroinger (Jpn) (Harbinger {GB}), is the dam of multiple group winner Meikei Yell (Jpn) (Mikki Isle {Jpn}). Amante Bianco and Group 1-winning champion Kurofune full-sisters Sodashi (Jpn) and Mama Cocha (Jpn) are also grandchildren of class mare Shirayukihime (Jpn) (Sunday Silence). 11th-Oi, ¥85,000,000, Alw. What VOBIS Day 2024 Where Caulfield Racecourse – Gate 22, Station St, Caulfield East VIC 3145 When Saturday, April 27, 2024 First Race 11:50am AEST Visit Dabble The VOBIS Day at Caulfield awaits punters on Saturday, where a stacked 10-race meeting with $2.9 million on offer is scheduled. Despite the track being a Soft 5 at the time of acceptances, it’s expected the track will be in the Good 4 range come raceday. The rail comes out 4m the entire circuit, with action from Caulfield commencing at 11:50am AEST. The Showdown Tip: Bold Bastille The Showdown (1200m) takes top billing on Saturday, and it should be a sit-and-steer job for Luke Currie about Bold Bastille. Ben, Will & JD Hayes have a classy sprinter on their hands and despite this being her first go at 1200m, the Brazen Beau filly should prove to be too slick. From barrier three, Luke Currie will take her to the front, dictate terms and as long as she can see out the extra 100m from her comfortable win at this track two starts back, her rivals will not see which way she went on the home turn. The Showdown Race 8 – #8 Bold Bastille (3) 2yo Filly | T: Ben, Will & JD Hayes | J: Luke Currie (56kg) -125 with Neds Best Bet at Caulfield: Hedged Hedged was massive in defeat at his first time of asking in Group 2 company during The Championships, and as he returns to Melbourne, the three-year-old has certainly found the right race to one better. The Capitalist progeny was lipped out by Group 1 winner Joliestar at his first go the Sydney way, and on his return to Caulfield, he should prove too good for his rivals, despite needing to give all of his rivals weight. Best Bet Race 9 – #1 Hedged (4) 3yo Gelding | T: Mick Price & Michael Kent (Jnr) | J: Ethan Brown (59kg) +130 with Dabble Next Best at Caulfield: Extratwo Extratwo beat all but Chorlton Lane at Bendigo on April 13 and in a similar race, the four-year-old mare can go one better. The Toronado mare was crucially held up for a run until the final furlong on that day, but once clear chased strongly to go down by 1.5 lengths, whilst the eventual winner had momentum on its side. Barrier one means she will need a touch of luck at some stage, but with the in-form Ethan Brown in the saddle, Extratwo will have every chance to bring up a third win from her last four starts. Next Best Race 4 – #4 Extratwo (1) 4yo Mare | T: Ciaron Maher | J: Ethan Brown (58kg) +300 with PlayUp Best Value at Caulfield: Unseen Ruler Matthew Williams’ Unseen Ruler seemingly found the backend of 2000m a touch taxing, but as the four-year-old gelding steps back to 1800m on the weekend, he looks to be a great each-way bet with online bookmakers. Barrier 17 is offset by the fact the son of Mongolian Khan will want to settle in the back half of the field and run on, and with a genuine tempo expected, the race shapes as though Unseen Ruler can launch a late challenge down the heart of the track. Best Value Race 2 – #12 Unseen Ruler (17) 4yo Gelding | T: Matthew Williams | J: Dean Yendall (59kg) +1100 with Bet365 Caulfield quaddie tips – 27/4/2024 Caulfield quadrella selections Saturday, April 27, 2024 1-3-4-5-7 8 1-5 Field | Copy this bet straight to your betslip Horse racing tips View the full article

For Andrea Cerofolini, the love of the horse was ignited later in life. But his passion for the Thoroughbred has taken center stage over the past decade, highlighted by an ever-deepening involvement with off-the-track race horses. “When I'm on a Thoroughbred, I feel like I am flying on a cloud,” Cerofolini said. “I just don't feel that way on other types of horses. It's just magical.” Through his connection with the Thoroughbred, Cerofolini became involved with TAKE2, a non-profit committed to promoting and developing second careers for racehorses following their retirement from the track. “From the day I arrived, I felt so welcome,” he said of the events the organization hosts. “I felt as if I was part of an elite group. And the Thoroughbred competitors I've met along the way are so nice. It really is a big community of animal lovers. That's why we have so much fun at these competitions. We get to see the same riders and same horses, which has allowed us to become friends.” Quiet Ray, who helped light Cerofolini's passion with off-the-track Thoroughbreds in 2015, didn't appear to be an ideal starter horse for the then inexperienced rider. A $540,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase in 2013, the striking son of Eskendereya didn't make much of an impact at the races, hitting the board in one of nine career starts before retiring in 2015 with $6,600 in earnings. The chestnut, initially used as a Fox Hunter following his retirement from racing, clearly needed some time to ease off the pedal, recalls Cerofolini. “After I took him home, I was ready to call the owner and tell them we can't keep the horse,” he recalled. “But the horse and I fell in love only after a couple of days. He was really personable and really sweet with me, although not particularly with others. He nuzzled my neck and that was it.” Magnolia Shadows | Magnolia Shadows photo The two started showing in the spring of 2019, competed in their first TAKE2 Jumper class together in 2020, and joined the TAKE2 League for the 2021 season. Their first foray into the $20,000 TAKE2 Hunter & Jumper Finals did not go well, with an unplanned dismount leading to elimination. But Cerofolini and Quiet Ray finished third in the Jumper Finals in 2022. Thirteenth, but with just four faults, in 2023, the plan is to go for the gold in 2024. “I've made some improvements, mainly in my riding, so I'll try to win this year!” Cerofolini said. Asked what makes the Thoroughbred the ideal partner in competition, Cerefolini explained, “The advantage of a Thoroughbred is its braveness, heart and its incredible athleticism. They are just more reactive. One thing about them is you really need to get out of their way as a rider. It's almost like a song, and you try to stay on beat.” Cerofolino has traveled to the beat of his own drummer through a storied life. A native of Como, Italy, Cerofolini gained valuable experience in Italian wine making, courtesy of his parents, before relocating to the U.S. to attend college in Boston in the late '90s. Following his graduation in 2001, he embarked on a brief stint in the financial and broadcasting sectors in New York City before returning to Italy. Drawn back to the U.S. following a divorce, Cerofolini was introduced to bird dogs in 2010, which resulted in a need for more land to care for his sport dogs. His increasing involvement with that sport precipitated the decision to leave his New-York-based position as a master tailor with the international luxury men's wear brand Ermenegildo Zegna. His involvement with competitive bird dogging also opened the door to Cerofolini's other passion, horses. His four-legged companions set him on a circuitous trek around the country, ultimately leading him to Aiken, South Carolina. Instantly enamored with the region, he purchased a 50-acre tract of land in Ridge Spring in 2015 and named the property Magnolia Shadows. Built in 1895, the property's restored plantation home became the focal point for the endeavor, marrying Cerofolini's love of hospitality, horses and sport dogs while creating a serene country experience nestled in Aiken County. Anchoring the Equestrian training and stabling facility, Magnolia Shadows is located near several Aiken equestrian venues of show jumping, three-day eventing, polo, fox hunting, 'Hunt Week' and racing. “I created this place with the traveling horseman in mind,” he said. “Having traveled all over the country with my horses and dogs, I found it difficult at times to find somewhere of quality that could accommodate us all. So I tried to create such a space where people could enjoy comfortable accommodations.” RISERVA 1895 | Magnolia Shadows Crafted into an Equestrian resort and campground, the property currently operates as a Bed & Breakfast and is punctuated by RISERVA 1895, an on-site fine dining and wine establishment offering high-scale Italian cuisine. Providing an elevated experience nestled in a serene rural setting, Cerofolini's years of experience as a sommelier are underpinned by fellow Italian Cecilia Lezzani's talents as RISERVA'S head chef. “Everything is handmade and made on the day of serving for the number of people that have reserved a spot–we only have 20 seatings a night. Cecilia makes everything, it's a very meticulous time-consuming operation. I am the host and I do the wine pouring and the win-tasting menus. I am very involved because I love it.” But as much as he loves playing host, Cerofolini is always drawn back to the Thoroughbreds. “I dedicate my life to horses now,” he said. “And without taking anything away from the other horses, Thoroughbreds are unique. They can be a little bit naughty sometimes, but that can be a positive in a sport horse. Their versatility is exciting. And you really see them pouring their hearts out in competition. I really think the Thoroughbred is the best horse in the world.” The post Off-Track Thoroughbreds Give Cerofolini New Lease on Life appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions. 1/ST and France Galop have partnered with the aim of increasing international participation, the two companies announced on Wednesday. The new partnership will begin with the $100,000 GIII Gallorette S. at Pimlico Race Course on May 18, Preakness Day. Whichever horse wins the Gallorette, will automatically qualify to run in the €250,000 G1 Sumbe Prix Jean Romanet S. at Deauville on Aug. 18. A travel stipend will also be provided. 1/ST has previously partnered with Ascot Racecourse on Gulfstream Park's Royal Palm Series which targets Royal Ascot's juvenile races, as well as with The Jockey Club in the UK around the G1 July Cup and G1 Eclipse S. and the California Crown at Santa Anita Park in September. Aidan Butler, President of 1/ST, said, “1/ST is thrilled to create another great global partnership, breaking new ground in France with our friends at France Galop. This Gallorette-Romanet pathway is an exciting trial for hopefully more reciprocal race days in France, considering France Galop's rich heritage in staging many of the most prestigious turf contests in Europe at courses like Deauville, Chantilly and Longchamp. “We look forward to announcing more global racing partnerships over the year ahead. Whether we're bolstering the brand, increasing horse-recruitment numbers, or driving wagering dollars overseas, it's high time for more innovative moments on the worldwide racing stage.” Henri Pouret, chief operating officer at France Galop, added, “We're naturally delighted to be teaming up with 1/ST on this compelling initiative which will introduce many new French racing fans to Preakness 149 and add some welcome transatlantic flavour to the G1 Sumbe Prix Jean Romanet S., now in its 20th year of attracting the best middle-distance horses in the business. “The travel stipend is an excellent incentive for facilitating stress-free long-haul travel, helping to secure a stellar field of global contenders for the Romanet, and proving that racing is a sport whose worldwide appeal is no barrier to worldwide participation, be it in France or the States. We look forward to welcoming the Gallorette victor to Deauville later this summer and building on the success of US-trained horses at other elite European events, such as Royal Ascot.” The post 1/ST And France Galop Partner On Gallorette And Romanet appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions. Few jockeys have ever come so far so fast. Keith Asmussen, the son of Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen, has been riding full time for less than two years, but has already snagged mounts in the GI Kentucky Derby and GI Kentucky Oaks and sits in second-place in the jockey standings at Oaklawn Park. Asmussen, who will ride Just Steel (Justify) in the Derby and Lemon Muffin (Collected) in the Oaks for trainer Wayne Lukas, joined the TDN Writers' Room Podcast presented by Keeneland this week to discuss his rapid ascension, riding in the Derby, how, at 5 foot 10, he manages his weight and much more. Asmussen was the Green Group Guest of the Week. Though his father has enjoyed much more success as a trainer than he did as a jockey, Asmussen never gave training a serious thought. His dream was to be a jockey. “I think it just comes with being around the racetrack,” he said. “It was the immediate infatuation of being on the backside and around horses. I had kind of the progression of hot walker, groom, exercise rider. I just absolutely fell in love with the idea of being on the back of a horse. It just kind of progressed from there. It was a pipe dream to begin with. And now it's a very real profession that I absolutely am in love with.” That Lukas has enough faith in Asmussen to let him ride his Derby horse says a lot about the jockey's ability and that he can compete against the very best. “To ride for him is an awesome feeling,” he said. “He's a horseman that has literally changed the game into what it is today. For him to show confidence in my ability…I mean, there's nothing more invigorating than that on a professional level. He is notorious for being critical of jockeys, but it's because he expects the best and that's the level I aspire to compete at. I believe I am malleable enough that he will help make me into an incredible rider, which is my aspiration.” He speaks highly of his entire family, including his uncle, Cash. Cash Asmussen, who enjoyed success in Europe and the U.S., was one of the best riders of his generation. Asmussen has been quick to pick his uncle's brain and seek his advice. “He is so knowledgeable,” Asmussen said. “You would start a sentence and you try to say what you mean. You don't even need to finish the sentence. He already knows what you're talking about. He can totally walk you through what small alterations you need to make.” In our breeding spotlight section, we took a look at the WinStar stallion Independence Hall. We also spotlighted the Coolmore stallion Jack Christopher. Elsewhere on the podcast, which is also sponsored by the Pennsylvania Horse Breeders' Association, Coolmore, West Point Thoroughbreds, WinStar, Pleasant Acres Farm https://www.winstarfarm.com/and XBTV.com, the team of T.D. Thornton, Bill Finley and Zoe Cadman talked about owner Amr Zedan's on-going quest to force Churchill Downs to allow his star 3-year-old Muth (Good Magic) to be entered in the Derby despite the ban of trainer Bob Baffert. We also discussed the news of the recent Hall of Fame inductees, Justify (Scat Daddy), Gun Runner (Candy Ride {Arg}) and Joel Rosario. Cadman said that Kona Gold (Java Gold) should have been added to the list and Finley made the case for trainer John Sadler. Cadman gave an update on the OBS Spring sale and the team discussed Charlie Appleby's decision to campaign a string of horses in the U.S. To watch the Writers' Room, click here. Ballysax S. winner Dallas Star (Fr) (Cloth Of Stars {Ire}) and impressive Newbury maiden winner Hidden Law (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) feature among 69 entries for the G1 Derby at Epsom having been added at a cost of £12,000 at the second entry stage. Trained by Dominic Ffrench Davis as a juvenile, Dallas Star caused a 50/1 upset when making every yard of the running to claim Group 3 honours at Leopardstown on his first start for Adrian Murray. One of 22 Irish-trained entries for the richest race in Britain, Dallas Star will be trying to become the first horse since Harzand (Ire) in 2016 to complete the Ballysax/Derby double if lining up at Epsom. Hidden Law is one of four Derby entries for Charlie Appleby, who won the race with Masar (Ire) in 2018 and with Adayar (Ire) in 2021. He is out of the G1 Oaks runner-up Secret Gesture (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) and looked a bright prospect when getting off the mark at Newbury, quickening clear in the final furlong to win by five and a half lengths. Ante-post market leaders City Of Troy (Justify) and Henry Longfellow (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) both stood their ground for Aidan O'Brien, but there is unlikely to be a first Japanese-trained runner in the Derby after the G1 Satsuki Sho winner Justin Milano (Jpn) (Kizuna {Jpn}) featured among five horses who have been scratched from the race, along with Alrazeen (Ire) (Galileo Gold {GB}), Common Defense (Karakontie {Jpn}), Deepone (GB) (Study Of Man {Ire}) and Navy Seal (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}). The next scratchings deadline is by noon on Tuesday, May 7. Justify (Scat Daddy–Stage Magic, by Ghostzapper) won't be returning to stand at Coolmore Australia this spring and will remain at Coolmore's Ashford Stud in Kentucky where he will cover a select book of mares to southern hemisphere time late in the year. “It's a similar situation to Frankel in England where they serve mares to southern hemisphere time,” said Coolmore's Tom Magnier. “We will be sending up some of our best mares and some of our clients here will have the opportunity to send their mares to him too.” “Many of the mares that might have visited Justify here have already been booked into our G1 Golden Slipper winner Shinzo (Aus) whose retirement was announced a few days ago,” added Magnier. “We have had a fantastic response to him from our clients.” The Triple Crown winner has enjoyed a productive year in both hemispheres, including Northern Hemisphere champions Just F Y I and City Of Troy, in addition to Grade I winners Hard to Justify, Aspen Grove, Opera Singer and Arabian Lion. In the Southern Hemisphere, he is responsible for Storm Boy and Learning to Fly in Australia. Overall, he has 28 black-type winners and 18 group/graded winners. Hall Of Fame trainer David Hayes is willing to have a throw at the stumps with 2023 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Little Brose (Per Incanto) when he lines up in Sunday’s Gr.1 Chairman’s Sprint Prize (1200m) at Sha Tin. The three-year-old colt will make his Hong Kong debut in the 1200-metre contest, having had five trials to prepare for the occasion. “He’s a Group One winner and there’s not many international Group Ones in Hong Kong over the sprint distance, so we thought we may as well have a crack at it,” Hayes explained to Racing.com at Sha Tin. “He does sprint well fresh, he’s a lazy worker, his trials have been ok. “The great thing is, in the old days in Hong Kong, if you ran a place, you were murdered in the handicap, you might go up 15 (points) off his rating, or 20. “Now, the maximum, you’re capped at five and if he wins, we’re happy to take the massive penalty but if he runs a place, he can still go back and run through the grades, which gives the owners a real chance. “I think it’s a great initiative by the (Hong Kong) Jockey Club.” Sunday’s Group One contest will see Little Brose clash with classy Hong Kong sprinters California Spangle (Starspangledbanner) and Victor The Winner (Toronado), as well as Japanese contenders Mad Cool (Dark Angel) and Sunrise Ronaldo (Harbinger) plus British filly Believing (Mehmas). “We’ll be very happy if he can be fighting out the finish,” Hayes said. “We’re a long way off being confident, it’s a big ask, an international first-up, but if he was coming from Australia, representing Australia, first-up, you never know. “For me, I think Victor’s the one to beat the way the weather is, I just think he’s going to love this wet track.” While Little Brose hasn’t raced since his midfield effort behind Griff (Trapeze Artist) in last year’s Caulfield Guineas, Hayes believes that the three-year-old colt will be better suited over the shorter distances in his new home. “I hope he can be a top-level sprinter and can be not only a Group One two-year-old, which Australia loves, if he can be an international Group One sprinter, it has massive appeal back home when he retires,” Hayes said. The G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches is likely to be the next port of call for Folgaria (Ire) (Due Diligence) following her victory in the G3 Fred Darling S. at Newbury on Saturday, her sixth victory from as many starts following an unbeaten two-year-old campaign in Italy when trained by Stefano Botti. Now in the care of Stefano's brother, Marco Botti, Folgaria was a welcome winner for the team at Prestige Place which has been mourning the death of the stable's former apprentice, Stefano Cherchi, following a fall in Australia last month. Botti himself was not at Newbury on Saturday as he attended his compatriot's funeral in Sardinia, but he was understandably encouraged by the way Folgaria performed on her first start in Britain. “It was a nice performance and she did everything right in Italy, won all her races, but you never know what to expect to be honest,” said Botti. “I thought she won in good style despite the race not panning out how we were hoping. We were in stall one and, although it wasn't a big field, Hollie had plenty of daylight and we wanted to take her back a little bit and then she had to manoeuvre a little bit on the left and battled on. You could say the runner-up was a touch unlucky but, at the same time, Folgaria won with a little bit left in hand. “I think she will come on for the run and she hasn't had a racecourse gallop or anything. That was a performance on what we have been able to do in the mornings.” Turning his attention to future plans, Botti added, “I expect she will come on a fair bit and there is no reason why a mile will not suit her, especially if we went to France where she will race round a bend. “There is plenty to look forward to throughout the season and at the moment the French Guineas is the plan. We always thought we would aim there rather than the English Guineas as simply a mile with a bend is what we think will suit her better. “It's been a tough time the last few weeks and when you get a three-year-old of that calibre and everything goes to plan, it is just a boost for the yard and for everyone involved. “It just gives everyone a little bit of confidence and our horses have been running well during the winter but these are the races you want to be thereabouts in and we know we have a filly like her with lots of potential.” The post Classic Bid On The Cards For Fred Darling Winner Folgaria appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions. The UK Tote Group and Singapore Pools have signed a new agreement to commingle pools, made in partnership with Arena Racing Company (ARC) and Racecourse Media Group (RMG) as the media rights holders for British racing's 59 racecourses. The agreement sees both organisations combine liquidity, with customers of Singapore Pools betting into the UK Tote's pools on British meetings, creating bigger UK pools and ensuring an improved financial return to the sport. Simon Leong, chief product officer of Singapore Pools, said, “We are delighted to collaborate with the UK Tote on this new front, which not only provides our customers access to larger pools but also contributes to British horseracing. We deeply appreciate our longstanding partnership with British racing and look forward to further strengthening the communal horseracing ties shared between us.” Jon Knapman, international chief commercial officer of the UK Tote Group, added, “This is a really positive development and we're pleased to have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues at Singapore Pools to ensure bigger pools for all our customers. By Brigette Solomon Pukekohe based trainer Jeremy Young has just two horses entered at Thursday’s ANZAC day meeting, but he is confident both are capable of strong performances. “Both horses are well placed,” says Young, “they’ve both been working well and I’m pretty happy with both of them.” Young’s first runner for the night is Gladys Greenland who takes part in Race three, the Watchu Security Mobile Pace for Junior Drivers. The four-year-old mare by Downbytheseaside, starts fresh up from a spell over 1700 metres with Monika Ranger engaged to drive. “This race was a good starting point for her with the drawcard being it’s penalty free if she happens to win,” says Young, “she’s drawn well (2) and gets off the gate well, so we’ll be looking to go forward and remain out in front.” “Although she missed a trial on Saturday due to the heavy rain, she’s very forward in her work and over the 1700 metre trip I don’t think it should be a problem.” Only lightly raced, Gladys Greenland scored her maiden victory over a mile at Alexandra Park’s sprint night back on November 10 in a time of 1.55-4. She has placed on a further four occasions from just six starts. Young’s other runner is Mantra who starts in Race five, the MacMillan Equine Feeds Mobile Pace over 2200 metres. Driven tonight by Maurice McKendry (MNZM), the three year old Rock N Roll Heaven gelding starts from three on the second line in a full field. “Unfortunately, his draw is a bit tougher but with some luck he can still be thereabouts,” says Young, “that being said, his work has been good and he’s well placed.” His most recent run at Alexandra Park on April 19 saw him three back on the pegs in running before coming out three wide on the home bend to run on nicely into fourth place with the race taken out by Iron Brigade. Mantra has had three starts to date and was a winner on debut at big odds at Alexandra Park on March 15. Young and McKendry have been a successful combination in recent times with the pair combining to win the Group 1 Woodlands Stud Queen of Hearts with Young’s stable star Lady Of The Light in December. “She’s had a good spell and will be returning to work in a week or so,” says Young. “It’s a long way out yet but the big picture would see her targeting a New Zealand Cup campaign provided she’ll manage standing starts and there are also some mares’ races here and in Australia that could be an option down the track.” The Anzac Day Race meeting kicks off with Race one at 5:19pm.
