Slot holder Daniel Nakhle has a key chance for the locals in Saturday’s $3.5 million NZB Kiwi (1500m), but his focus will also lie much earlier on the card on Champions Day, with his star sprinter Crocetti (NZ) (Zacinto) contesting the Gr.3 Haunui Farm King’s Plate (1200m). The Auckland businessman is the breeder-owner of Zacinto gelding, the Group One-winning three-year-old who earned his stripes at four with an emphatic last-gasp victory over Alabama Lass in the Gr.1 Railway (1200m) on Karaka Millions Night at Ellerslie. Nakhle reflected fondly on that success, particularly after his gelding gained such a reputation earlier on in his career. “It was such an exciting win, a nail-biter,” he said. “It was back to the Crocetti that we saw last season, the team had him absolutely cherry-ripe on the day and Warren (Kennedy, jockey) making the suggestion of putting blinkers on certainly worked the oracle. “He had a pretty easy time of it as a three-year-old and got away with not doing it at 100 percent, so up against the big boys and girls, the blinkers kept him focussed and back in the winner’s circle.” Bypassing the Gr.1 BCD Group Sprint (1400m) last month, Crocetti will return to Ellerslie on Saturday for a re-match with Alabama Lass, the filly currently favoured in the market at $2. “He pulled up very well after the Railway,” Nakhle said. “Danny (Walker) and Arron (Tata, trainers) decided to keep him fresh for his 1200m assignments, so he had a good eight days out in the paddock at Byerley Park and he really enjoyed his break. “He’s relatively fresh, he went to Ellerslie on Monday morning for a gallop and just had a nice easy piece of work with Warren on board. He wasn’t after time, just a pipe-opener for him to keep him up to the mark. He did that very well and looking at him, he was very hard to pull up, so that’s always a good sign. “He’s had a lovely build-up leading into the King’s Plate.” Crocetti is also in line for a lucrative bonus if he can deliver in the $250,000 contest, as a front-runner in the Sport Nation Champion Sprint Series. The son of Zacinto sits on 10 points ahead of race-rivals Sacred Satono and Babylon Berlin (7), and finishing in the first two placings would assure him the $300,000 winning purse. Later on in the afternoon, Nakhle will have a different role to play, this time as a part of the Barneswood/Brady/Nakhle slot holder partnership in the $3.5 million The NZB Kiwi (1500m). In mid-February, the group announced they had selected Penman (NZ) (Contributer) to fill their slot, a decision that has been well-justified as the gelding defeated the older horses at Ellerslie on Avondale Cup Day. Nakhle has enjoyed the experience on offer for slot holders, and has confidence the Stephen Marsh-trained son of Contributer can make his presence felt in the southern hemisphere’s richest three-year-old race. “It’s been really cool, we’ve got a fantastic ownership group within the slot, and everyone is putting their opinion in, each person sees it from a different angle,” he said. “Whether that be sectionals or by eye, but this horse was actually one that we all agreed on and really liked. “It was a pretty easy decision to make after his run two starts ago and that was franked against the older horses a couple of days after we announced him. “The Go Racing team, Matt (Allnutt) and Albert (Bosma), as well as Stephen Marsh and Dylan Johnson have been fantastic to work in with, they are a very professional bunch. As much as you’re backing the horse, you’re also backing the team around him, and we have confidence that we have a horse with a real chance.” In an Australian-dominated market for the NZB Kiwi, Penman is rated a $23 chance, with the Ben, Will, and JD Hayes-trained Evaporate on top at $2.40. Wexford Stables’ long-held plan for an all-out assault on The NZB Kiwi (1500m) at Ellerslie has come to fruition, with a quartet of in-form contenders to do battle on Saturday. Trainers Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott will be represented by Checkmate (NZ) (Mongolian Khan), Sought After (NZ) (Tivaci), Sethito (NZ) (Super Seth) and Hankee Alpha (NZ) (Proisir) in the inaugural running of the $3.5 million Champions’ Day feature. “It’s certainly been a massive team effort and at the beginning of the season we had a number of three-year-olds that were genetically bred to run only a mile,” Scott said. “With that in mind, we aimed these horses at this race and while you can always make these plans, they don’t always work out quite as well as hoped, but all four of them have had pretty seamless preparations. “They have all been racing well and there are good and genuine reasons why they should perform well and we’re looking forward to it.” When pressed with the obvious question of which may be the stable’s best hope, Scott said it was extremely difficult to split them. “That’s an honest answer too, we genuinely think all four have got strong claims,” he said. “Sought After goes well fresh and while he had a wee setback with a temp, his best runs have been in a fresh state. “We’ve managed to get the work into him, and he will strip a very fit horse at the weekend. “He knows his way around Ellerslie, his form is strong and his sectionals have been very good so if he brings those on Saturday, he’s certainly going to be in it.” Sought After hasn’t raced since he won on the course in January, while Sethito was a last-start winner of the Listed Uncle Remus Stakes (1400m) with Checkmate a fast closing fourth ahead of Hankee Alpha. “Sethito has the form on the board and is such a genuine racehorse while Checkmate is another familiar with Ellerslie and is so consistent and always runs a good race,” Scott said. “We think Hankee Alpha has improved a lot since the Uncle Remus and if she gets a good, clear run at them, then she’ll also go well.” Fellow three-year-old Tristar is third on the ballot for the Kiwi and looms as a strong hope in the Windsor Park Stud 3YO Trophy (1500m). “She has taken good last start benefit from the Uncle Remus where she had absolutely no luck and Craig (Grylls) got off and swore she certainly been in the placings had she had good fortune,” Scott said. “She has trained on well, she’s got a good gate and looks well placed.” Meanwhile, Kelly Coe (NZ) (Proisir) has made all the right moves ahead of the Gr.1 HKJC World Pool New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes (1600m). She won the Gr.3 J Swap Sprint (1400m) three runs back before midfield finishes in the Gr.1 Thorndon Mile (1600m) and Listed Fulton Family Stakes (1500m). “Not all went her way when she tripped out of the barrier at Wellington and then raced quite prominently and got collared late,” Scott said. “We might have ridden her a bit upside down in her next race around Ellerslie when close to the speed. She’ll strip a fit mare and the race looks like it will be run at a genuine clip, we believe she can be competitive.” View the full article

The daughter of Winning Rupert had put together a consistent preparation so far, finding the frame in three of her four starts, finally getting the opportunity to add black-type racing to her resume. She was given a perfect steer by Kerrin McEvoy as he landed her in the one-one position throughout the contest, relishing the strong tempo supplied by Byron Belle ($101.00) and Eagle Nest ($13.00) in the early stages. It allowed McEvoy to get the ideal run in transit, while the likes of C’est Magique ($7.00), Wee Nessy ($9.50) and Rainbiel ($7.50) were left chasing a long way from home, unable to cut into the margin as Tintookie bolted clear with the prize. 2023: Jal Lei claims controversial victory Jump The Broom may have finished first past the post; however, with plenty of interference with 100m to go, it was Jal Lei who took out the 2023 Wenona Girl Quality. The leader throughout the 1200m contest, Jump The Broom, veered off his running line under Zac Lloyd and caused significant interference on the originally third placed Tycoon Evie, almost causing Zac Purton to be dislodged. In the process of trying to regain control of his mount, Purton unintentionally caused Jal Lei to swerve off his racing line as well. The race results finished with Jal Lei finishing in first position, Tycoon Evie moving into second, with Jump The Broom demoted into third position. 2022: Last-race Bjorn does it again Bjorn Baker had been making a habit of winning the final race in Sydney and he did it again with Belluci Babe in the 2022 Wenona Girl Quality. Baker’s mare dominated throughout to defeat Tricky Gal by 2.5 lengths with Never Talk ($3.50) closing late another half-neck away. The winner of six races, Belluci Babe had been a model of consistency and thoroughly deserved her Group Three breakthrough after being Group placed on multiple occasions including at her previous start when a narrow second to Expat in the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m). Sethito will be one of Wexford’s four runners in Saturday’s $3.5 million The NZB Kiwi (1500m) at Ellerslie. Photo: Kenton Wright (Race Images) Wexford Stables’ long-held plan for an all-out assault on The NZB Kiwi (1500m) at Ellerslie has come to fruition, with a quartet of in-form contenders to do battle on Saturday. Trainers Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott will be represented by Checkmate, Sought After, Sethito and Hankee Alpha in the inaugural running of the $3.5 million Champions’ Day feature. “She has trained on well, she’s got a good gate and looks well placed.” Meanwhile, Kelly Coe has made all the right moves ahead of the Group 1 New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes (1600m). She won the Group 3 J Swap Sprint (1400m) three runs back before midfield finishes in the Group 1 Thorndon Mile (1600m) and Listed Fulton Family Stakes (1500m). “Not all went her way when she tripped out of the barrier at Wellington and then raced quite prominently and got collared late,” Scott said. “We might have ridden her a bit upside down in her next race around Ellerslie when close to the speed. She’ll strip a fit mare and the race looks like it will be run at a genuine clip, we believe she can be competitive.” Horse racing news View the full article

Pep Torque will return to the races at New Plymouth in Saturday’s The Multi Ethnic – Africa (1600m). Photo: Peter Rubery (Race Images Palmerston North) Evergreen galloper Pep Torque will return to the races after more than a year off the scene at New Plymouth on Saturday. An 11-year-old by Nadeem, Pep Torque has been an incredibly consistent campaigner for trainer and part-owner Kirsty Lawrence, collecting 10 wins and 24 minor placings, and accumulating more than $328,000 in stakes earnings. He earned a deserved stakes victory when winning the 2022 Listed Fielding Gold Cup (2100m) and had continued that form into the following season, before finishing third in the Wairoa Cup (2100m) last February, where he was galloped on and ruled out for the remainder of his campaign. Lawrence was not hesitant to retire Pep Torque after the injury if his enthusiasm for racing had faded, but the gelding indicated he is still full of running with a strong trial behind Rusty Lane and He’s Lucid at Waipukurau last month. “He got galloped on quite badly in the Wairoa Cup last year and no matter which way we went, he was going become a riding horse at some point,” she said. “He’s been in work for nine months, he’s been rehabbed and then more recently had a jump-out and a trial and been good as gold. He ran a very nice third at the trials over 1200m and showed he still wants to be around. “I think he wants to add his combined age together and thinks he’s two, he’s happy and if you saw him in the paddock, you wouldn’t believe that he’s 11.” Elle Sole partnered Pep Torque in the heat and retains the ride in The Multi Ethnic – Africa (1600m), following in the footsteps of a number of apprentices to ply their trade on the experienced gelding. “Elle will take three kilos off on Saturday, which is a big assist for him,” Lawrence said. “I like to give those three-kilo claimers an opportunity, eight of his wins have been with apprentices on and he’s been an incredible horse for them. Elle came in the other day with a grin from ear-to-ear, having the opportunity to ride a horse like him that just says, wait here kid, I’ve got it. “She works hard and deserves the ride, he’s honest and just a neat horse.” Lawrence is keeping an open mind following Saturday’s assignment, where a number of his connections will make the long journey across to Taranaki in support. “We’ll just tick through those lower-grade Cup races. As long as he stays happy and sound, we’ll keep ticking along,” she said. “The ownership group have been in him since the beginning, they’re all going on Saturday including Diana Newman, all the way from Gisborne. She has dementia and is not very well, so it may be her last raceday, so to have him back is very special for them. “Anything amiss, he’ll be retired, we came all the way through with no illusion that we would if that was the case.” Horse racing news View the full article

The Chris Waller-trained colt made it three wins from as many starts and after jumping as the second favourite with online bookmakers, behind only Straight Charge ($2.80), the son of Snitzel proved too strong at the end of 1200m. Straight Charge led the field at a good clip and set the race up for a runner to run on strong from midfield, and that is exactly what the winner did, thanks to a calm and perfectly timed ride from McDonald. The leader was able to hold on for second place and Shangri La Express ($13.00) got into clear air late to run home into third place behind the top two. 2023: Cylinder overhauls rivals Cylinder got the better of the pre-race Golden Slipper second favourite, Red Resistance in the 2023 Group 2 Todman Stakes. Going into the traditional Group 2 lead-up for the Golden Slipper for the colts and geldings, both the winner and runner-up jumped as the favourite and second favourite with online bookmakers. As the field hit the top of the home straight it appeared as though punters had got the betting spot on, with Red Resistance leading them up and kicking clear with 300m to go, however, under the urgings of James McDonald, Cylinder chased him down with 100m to go and recorded a very nice victory. 2022: Serjadan times run perfectly Sejardan returned to winning ways in the 2022 Group 2 Todman Stakes at Royal Randwick, sticking his hand up as a leading chance in the Golden Slipper. The Gary Portelli-trained son of Sebring won his first two career starts, before returning with an unlucky third in the Inglis Millennium at his previous start. Sejardan did get a fair way back in the eight-horse field, but the classy two-year-old proved too good for his rivals, circling the field to win by over half a length to Boyfriend and Shalatain. What Magic Millions SA Raceday Where Murray Bridge Racing Club – 342 Brinkley Rd, Murray Bridge South, SA, 5253 When Saturday, March 8, 2025 First Race 12:13pm ACDT Visit Dabble The Magic Millions SA 2YO Classic and Magic Millions 3YO & 4YO Classic will headline the 10-race card at Murray Bridge on Saturday afternoon. Due to warm weather being forecast across the weekend, the track is expected to remain in the Good range after being rated as a Good 4 at acceptance time. The rail will be in the +3m position from the 1200m shoot and in the true position for the remainder of the circuit. The opening race will jump at 12:13pm ACDT. Magic Millions SA 2YO Classic tip: Celtic Thunder Celtic Thunder has been given two strong jumpouts in readiness for his debut run in the Magic Millions SA 2YO Classic for the Jason Warren stable. The son of Exceedance has shown that he can settle on speed, midfield or at the rear of the field and still sprint sharply in the concluding stages. From barrier four, Todd Pannell can settle Celtic Thunder behind the speed and peel off the leaders heels to let down with a big finish. Magic Millions SA 2YO Classic Race 5 – #3 Celtic Thunder (4) 3yo Colt | T: Jason Warren | J: Todd Pannell (57kg) Magic Millions SA 3YO & 4YO Classic tip: Dancing Storm Following an impressive second-place finish against the older horses first-up, Dancing Storm will drop back to his own age group when he competes in the Magic Millions SA 3YO & 4YO Classic. The Richard & Chantelle Jolly-trained gelding chased home the smart Bakeel over 1200m at Morphettville, and that run will bring him on nicely for this second-up assignment. Manuel Nunes will be able to settle Dancing Storm in the box seat behind the speed, and with even luck, he will prove hard to hold out late. Magic Millions SA 3YO & 4YO Classic Race 7 – #7 Dancing Storm (1) 3yo Gelding | T: Richard & Chantelle Jolly | J: Manuel Nunes (56kg) Best Bet at Murray Bridge: Gawnski Gawnski showed great determination to run home strongly over 1600m at Morphettville to claim his second career victory on February 22. The Jason Warren-trained gelding has recorded both of his wins in South Australia, and now that he rises in trip to 1800m, he will relish the conditions he will face on Saturday. Todd Pannell can settle midfield on the rail from barrier one, and if he lets down like he did last start, the +220 on offer with PlayUp looks like a great price. Best Bet Race 6 – #4 Gawnski (1) 4yo Gelding | T: Jason Warren | J: Todd Pannell (60kg) Next Best at Murray Bridge: Secret Wonder Richard & Chantelle Jolly will combine with Jake Toeroek for the third straight start when Secret Wonder attempts to break his maiden, following two strong efforts to kick off his career. The son of Supido settled on speed over 1000m last start before being run over by a couple of good ones in the final 300m. After drawing barrier 10, Toeroek can settle Secret Wonder worse than midfield and save him up for the last crack at the tiring leaders. Next Best Race 3 – #5 Secret Wonder (10) 3yo Gelding | T: Richard & Chantelle Jolly | J: Jake Toeroek (57kg) Saturday quaddie tips for Murray Bridge Murray Bridge quadrella selections Saturday, March 8, 2025 1-7-8-10 4-5 2-4-7-9-11-15-16 9-11-13-15 | Copy this bet straight to your betslip Horse racing tips View the full article

It was a perfectly timed steer by Collett, who elected to sit back for cover throughout the middle stages of the race, while bookmaker favourite Too Darn Lizzie ($3.10) utilised her early speed to lead early. James McDonald got the eventual runner-up Silmarillion ($4.60) into a lovely stalking position in the one-on-one throughout, while the Anthony Cummings-trained Extreme Diva ($7.50) was locked up with nowhere to go when the whips were cracking. Silmarillion looked to have them all covered with 200m left to travel, but Too Darn Lizzie was in for the fight, as Erno’s Cube launched late to spoil both their parties, getting the head down when it mattered most. 2023: Learning To Fly clings on Golden Slipper favourite and unbeaten two-year-old filly Learning To Fly took out the Group 2 Reisling Stakes in a strong showing after he led and was challenged by Facile for most of the 1200m event. After jumping well from barrier one, the daughter of Justify chose to take up the lead and let the Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou-trained runner-up settle outside of her, before they both battled it out down the length of the Randwick straight, with only a half-head separating the two on the line. 2022: Seven Veils not for catching Seven Veils was able to lead all of the way in the 2022 Group 2 Reisling Stakes at Randwick. The Mark Newnham-trained filly booked her spot into the $5 million Golden Slipper with a dominant showing in the Reisling, fending off challenges from Ojai and Dashing Legend. The daughter of Shalaa was ridden perfectly by Kerrin McEvoy, which saw her kick clear to win by 1.8 lengths. Race favourite Russian Conquest was disappointing in fourth, while hihgly-touted debutant Greece was a complete flop, finishing 11.5 lengths away in last place. What 2025 All-Star Mile Where Flemington Racecourse – Melbourne, Victoria When Saturday, March 8, 2025 Prizemoney $2,500,000 Distance 1600m Conditions Weight For Age 2024 winner Pride Of Jenni (6) | T: Ciaron Maher | J: Declan Bates (57kg) Visit Dabble The seventh running of the Group 1 All-Star Mile (1600m) will take place this Saturday at Flemington Racecourse, where a field of seven will duke it out for the $2.5 million on offer. Run at Group 1 level for the first time, the small but select field featured five runners who have tasted success at the top level, including 2023 All-Star Mile winner Mr Brightside. Mr B will be looking to add a 10th Group 1 triumph to his CV, while Another Wil will be out to exact further pain for Brightside backers after rolling him when they met in the CF Orr Stakes (1400m). Throw in the likes of Tom Kitten, Atishu and Light Infantry Man, and suddenly this year’s All-Star Mile shapes as one of the more intriguing editions. 2025 All-Star Mile odds After claiming the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m), Mr Brightside has been installed as a $2.50 favourite with horse racing betting sites. There is $2.90 on offer for Another Wil to repeat his CF Orr effort and topple Mr Brightside, while Tom Kitten at $5 rounds out the single-digit chances following eye-catching run in the Futurity. Atishu ($10), Light Infantry Man ($15) and Rise At Dawn ($17) have all been backed at an each-way price since markets opened, while Flying Trapeze ($101) is the rank outsider. 2025 All-Star Mile speed map There looks to be a clear frontrunner in the 2025 All-Star Mile, with Rise At Dawn a $1.01 chance to be leading the field after 200m. Stablemate Mr Brightside is likely going to be in a stalking roll throughout, while Another Wil will be camped on the leader’s heels. Light Infantry Man will likely roll forward, with Tom Kitten, Atishu and Flying Trapeze all set to be rear of the field and looking to run on down the heart of the track. Continue reading for HorseBetting’s top selections and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 All-Star Mile. All-Star Mile 2025 preview & form Mr Brightside only gets better the deeper he goes into a campaign, so he is a must-have as he looks to become the first multiple winner of the All-Star Mile. The seven-year-old was only grabbed on the winning post by Another Wil first-up, and despite being there to be beaten in the Futurity, Mr B held out genuine Group 1 performers like Tom Kitten and I Wish I Win. Craig Williams will have him stalking Rise At Dawn throughout, and considering he is already a four-time winner at the Flemington 1600m, Mr Brightside will take some beating. After such an eye-catching run first-up in the Futurity, Tom Kitten looks to be the toughest to beat. Market fancy Another Wil is a chance to find some trouble in a small field, as barrier one could prove tricky for Jamie Melham when the pressure goes on. Outside of Flying Trapeze, the remaining three runners are all a chance to fill the back end of a trifecta or first four. It would be a genuine shock if the 2025 All-Star Mile winner was not one of Mr Brightside, Another Wil or Tom Kitten. Aron Wellman, the president and founder of Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, has had big days, buy maybe nothing quite like the one he had last Saturday. Horses owned in part by Eclipse won the GI Santa Anita Handicap, the GII San Felipe and the GIII Herecomesthebride Stakes. And while that was going on he was putting the finishing touches on an agreement for his Big Cap winner Locked (Gun Runner) to stand at stud at Gainesway. With many subjects to cover, Wellman was this week's guest on the TDN Writers' Room presented by Keeneland. He was this week's Gainesway Guest of the Week. To run in the Big Cap, Locked's owners turned down an invitation to run in the $20-million G1 Saudi Cup. Wellman said that at the end of the day they considered all factors, and the purse was just one of them. “How did we resist the temptation to go to Saudi Arabia for $20 million?,” Wellman said. “I'm really fortunate to have some incredible partners under the Eclipse umbrella, Walmac Farm, Gary Broad, and of course the whole team at Gainsway were involved in this decision. And it really boiled down to the fact that he had run such a huge race in the Pegasus, even though it was in defeat. It would require him to travel all the way across the world within a three-week time span, run back within a month against the likes of the two Asian horses, who are exceptional. It's not that we don't think that Locked could have run with them, but it just wasn't the appropriate spacing to keep him on top of his game like we thought we needed him to be in order to make that endeavor. “The second layer to that is, there's so much prestige associated with the Santa Anita Handicap. Obviously, California has fallen on hard times, but it's incumbent upon all of us as stewards of the game and ambassadors of the sport to try to do our best to support these jurisdictions that might be struggling right now, like California, and to try to bring bona fide Grade I horses to races that need to preserve their Grade I status.” As far as Locked's future goes, Wellman was delighted that he will be going to Gainesway. “We're really thrilled to be able to announce that he will be standing stud at famed Gainesway farm upon retirement from his racing career,” he said. “We've had a lot of success with Gainesway, the Beck family, Brian Graves, their whole team there. So hopefully Locked still has a lot of running left to do, but we're excited for him to potentially prove that he's a generational talent in the breeding shed when the time comes.” The Eclipse team won the San Felipe with Journalism (Curlin), whose victory over the favorite Barnes (Into Mischief) moved him to the top of the list of California-based horses eyeing the Kentucky Derby. It was a huge effort for the 3-year-old as he not only beat a top horse in Barnes, but ran a 108 Beyer in doing so. “We never take anything for granted,” Wellman said. “From age two to three the biggest question mark is whether they're going to translate that brilliant form into their sophomore campaign. So you have your guard up a little bit going into these races, especially since he hadn't run since mid-December. We also had a little setback with him after he got sick from a vaccination. So you always go in with cautious optimism that they are going to perform up to your expectations because Journalism is a horse that from the moment we started breaking and training him down at our partner, Bridlewood Farm in Ocala, he exhibited the type of physical talent and mental constitution capable of indicating that he was going to be an elite exceptional performer.” In our “Fastest Horse of the Week,” segment, which is sponsored by WinStar, we went over the many reasons there are breed to WinStar stallion Independence Hall. The fastest horse of the week was Locked, who earned a 109 Beyer in his Big Cap win. Elsewhere on the podcast, which is also sponsored by the Pennsylvania Horse Breeders' Association, West Point Thoroughbreds, the KTOB, 1/ST Racing and 1/ST TV, the team of Randy Moss, Zoe Cadman and Bill Finley discussed the latest anti-racing story in the New York Times, one that called for all subsidies that go to the sport, including revenue from slot machines and casinos, to be cut off. Finley worried that the casino companies that own racetracks would use the article to try to convince their legislators to shut down racing's money supply that comes from alternate sources. The big races from last weekend, including the all-star card at Gulfstream, topped by the the GII Fountain of Youth Stakes and the GII Gulfstream Park Mile, were discussed. The team also welcomed TDN's Emma Berry for Darley's News You Can Use and they looked ahead to the 2025 debut of Thorpedo Anna (Fast Anna) in the GII Azeri Stakes at Oaklawn and the GII Tampa Bay Derby. That race includes GI Hopeful Stakes and GI Champagne Stakes winner Chancer MaPatrick (McKinzie), as well as the third-place finisher in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile, Hill Road (Quality Road). Evergreen galloper Pep Torque (NZ) (Nadeem) will return to the races after more than a year off the scene at New Plymouth on Saturday. “He is the stable pet, the whole place evolves around him and his cheeky antics and games. “Anything amiss, he’ll be retired, we came all the way through with no illusion that we would if that was the case.” View the full article

What Moonee Valley Races Where Moonee Valley Racecourse – Gate 2 Feehan Ave, Moonee Ponds VIC 3039 When Friday, March 7, 2025 First Race 6:15pm AEDT Visit Dabble Moonee Valley will host an action-packed eight-race card on Friday evening, with the first of those races scheduled to jump at 6:15pm AEDT. The track is expected to remain in the Good 4 rating that was posted at acceptances due to warm weather being forecast on Friday. The rail will be in the +5m position for the entire circuit. Best Bet at Moonee Valley: Albertville Jamie Melham made the trip to Kyneton for one ride aboard Albertville first-up, when the Clinton McDonald-trained gelding proved too good for his rivals as a well-backed favourite with horse racing bookmakers. The son of Ilovethiscity settled outside the leader and took over at the 200m mark before sprinting clear to record an impressive one-length win. From barrier one, Melham can push forward, lead the field up to the home turn, and give a strong kick to run away with another victory. Best Bet Race 4 – #3 Albertville (1) 3yo Gelding | T: Clinton McDonald | J: Jamie Melham (58.5kg) Next Best at Moonee Valley: Stage ‘N’ Screen Stage ‘N’ Screen will return from a 15-week spell coming off an encouraging first racing preparation that ended with a ninth-place finish in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m). The Mark Walker-trained filly has jumped out and trialled well, finishing in the placings on both occasions without being asked to do too much in the concluding stages. With the aid of Logan Bates 3kg claim and the ace barrier, Stage ‘N’ Screen can settle in the first three and, with even luck, prove too good for her rivals late. Next Best Race 3 – #3 Stage ‘N’ Screen (1) 3yo Filly | T: Mark Walker | J: Logan Bates (a3) (61.5kg) Best Value at Moonee Valley: Merrigold After finishing in between two very talented mares at Sandown last start, Merrigold will drop back in grade and attempt to record her third victory from six starts this preparation. The John Sadler-trained mare settled behind the speed and followed the eventual winner into the home straight, and without being disgraced, couldn’t go with her in the concluding stages. If Hannah Edgley can settle Merrigold in a similar position from barrier eight, she will go one better on Friday night. Best Value Race 7 – #3 Merrigold (8) 4yo Mare | T: John Sadler | J: Hannah Edgley (a3) (61kg) Friday quaddie tips for Moonee Valley Moonee Valley quadrella selections Friday, March 7, 2025 3-4-6-7-8 2-3-4-11 1-2-3-4-7 2-3-6-8 | Copy this bet straight to your betslip Horse racing tips View the full article

What Newcastle Races Where Newcastle Racecourse – 100 Darling St, Broadmeadow NSW 2292 When Friday, March 7, 2025 First Race 1:15pm AEDT Visit Dabble Provincial racing returns to Newcastle Racecourse on Friday afternoon, where the Group 3 Newcastle Stakes (1400m) headlines a quality eight-part program in the hunter. The rail moves out +2m the entire circuit for the meeting, and with consistent rainfall predicted across the state of NSW on Wednesday and Thursday, punters can anticipate a Heavy surface heading into race-day. The opening event is scheduled to get underway at 1:15pm local time. Newcastle Stakes Tip: Makarena Makarena was heavily supported with horse racing bookmakers in the Group 2 Milie Fox Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill on February 22, and although the daughter of Snitzel failed to fire a shot, she will take plenty of improvement heading into this second-up assignment. She has won two of her three starts second-up from a spell and brings an element of class to this after producing a career peak in the Golden Eagle (1500m) at the end of last preparation. Tyler Schiller has all available options from gate five, and provided Makarena can replicate her best, she must be considered the one to beat in the 2025 Newcastle Stakes. Newcastle Stakes Race 7 – #2 Makarena (5) 4yo Mare | T: Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes | J: Tyler Schiller (57.5kg) Best Bet at Newcastle: From The Peak Back-to-back barrier trial wins has From The Peak ready to strike on debut, with the John O’Shea & Tom Charlton-trained filly catching the eye on both occasions. The unraced three-year-old cruised through the wire in her latest piece of work at Randwick on February 24, fending off all challengers to score by a half-length. Expect Tyler Schiller to go in search of cover from gate seven, and provided the breaks fall her way, expect From The Peak to be fighting out the finish first-up. Best Bet Race 2 – #5 From The Peak (7) 3yo Filly | T: John O’Shea & Tom Charlton | J: Tyler Schiller (56.5kg) Next Best at Newcastle: Crown The King Crown The King did a mountain of work at Canterbury on February 21 and was gritty through the line despite suffering a 1.8-length defeat. He was always going to stop after some strong sectionals mid-race, leaving the son of Time To Reign vulnerable in the concluding stages. Regan Bayliss has the duty of getting the winless two-year-old to settle throughout the journey, and if he can keep his manners in check, expect Crown The King to figure at a good price with Dabble. Next Best Race 4 – #1 Crown The King (6) 2yo Colt | T: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott | J: Regan Bayliss (58.5kg) Friday quaddie tips for Newcastle Newcastle quadrella selections March 7, 2025 1-2-8-9-10 1-2-4-8-9 1-2-11 1-2-6-7 | Copy this bet straight to your betslip Horse racing tips View the full article
