  1. Multiple Group One winner Mustang Valley has joined her mother in the Windsor Park Stud broodmare band with both set to visit the Cambridge farm’s new stallion Paddington. The top-quality mare carried 60kg to victory in the open mile at Tauranga on Saturday in what was to have been her lead-up to another crack at the Gr.1 Livamol Classic (2040m), but was found to have bled and has been retired. Bred by Windsor Park, who remained in the ownership group, Mustang Valley was trained by Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman with the latter taking sole charge following Baker’s retirement in 2022. “She’s going to be served by Paddington and that was the plan anyway,” Windsor Park studmaster Rodney Schick said. “She would have run this Saturday and then be mated and race on but unfortunately, it’s been cut short a little bit. “The main thing for us is that she’s safe and sound, she’s won two Group Ones so she had nothing to prove. She’s been a wonderful mare.” A daughter of resident stallion Vanbrugh, Mustang Valley’s seven career victories were highlighted by successes in the Gr.1 Livamol Classic (2040m) and the Gr.1 Arrowfield Stud Plate (1600m) and earned just shy of $900,000. She is the first foal of the New Approach mare Cream Of The Crop, whose pedigree page features Windsor Park’s famous son and multiple top-flight winner Might And Power. “I bought her at the Magic Millions Broodmare Sale for $5,000, she was a maiden off the track and Mustang Valley was her first foal,” Schick said. “I did cop a bit of stick from the boys for buying such a cheap mare, the flight cost more than she did. “I was certainly happy though, it was a good family and as breeders we always like to stick with families we know and have worked with. “It was a weaker branch of that family, but she was a lovely, scopey sort of mare and thought she’d physically suit Vanbrugh and it paid off.” Earlier this year, Windsor Park sold Cream Of The Crop’s filly by Hello Youmzain to trainer Tony Pike for $220,000 at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale. “She’s had a Savabeel colt, an absolute cracker, and she will be going to Paddington,” Schick said. Paddington is a four-time Group One-winning son of champion sire Siyouni who has shuttled to Windsor Park from Coolmore in Ireland for his first season of duty. “He’s very popular and rightly so, he was an absolute champion of a racehorse and we’re very lucky to have him in New Zealand,” Schick said. “He’s got a full book and will suit most mares, he’ll be serving 160.” View the full article
  2. In form gelding Wolfgang has secured a plane ticket across the Tasman this week to tackle Saturday’s Gr.2 Herbert Power Stakes (2400m) at Caulfield. The six-year-old son of Puccini has been faultless this preparation, winning both of his starts, including downing Australian raider Rolls at Matamata last week. “He was second-up over 2000m and he attacked the line really well. I am very happy,” said Peter McKay, who trains the gelding with his son Shaun. The Matamata conditioners were weighing up making a late nomination for the Gr.1 Livamol Classic (2040m) at Te Rapa on Saturday but have opted to head to Australia with the gelding instead. “We are looking to try and get him on a plane this week to race on Saturday at Caulfield in the Herbert Power,” McKay said. “I worked out it’s about $13,000 (to go to the Livamol) by the time you pay the late nomination and acceptances, and with the weather watch as well, I am not sure what Te Rapa is going to be like. “It also didn’t work right with the weight-for-age, where it is going to be a handicap over there.” It may be a hit-and-run mission with Wolfgang this week, however, McKay said they may press on with their charge in Australia if he performs up to expectations. “If he can run in the first four or five I will be pretty happy, and we will know where he is at,” he said. “If he went really well, we may look further ahead, but otherwise he will come home again.” McKay also has a plan b in place if something goes untoward or he doesn’t secure a run on Saturday. “If something goes wrong between now and Saturday, I will probably throw a nomination in for the following Wednesday where there is a lesser grade race,” he said. Wolfgang is by MacKay’s former Group One winner Puccini, and was bred by Mapperley Stud, who stood the stallion. He is raced by farm principal Simms Davision in partnership with McKay and his wife Kim after he failed to meet his $50,000 reserve at the 2020 New Zealand Bloodstock Book 1 Yearling Sale. McKay has been pleased with the way Wolfgang has continued to develop and believes he has finally come of age as a six-year-old. “He is starting to look like one of the better ones (progeny of Puccini),” McKay said. “He showed us a lot as a two-year-old, went a bit flat as a three-year-old, and we had a few foot problems off and on as a four-year-old. His record isn’t too bad, he has earned over $200,000 in stakes and he looks like he is coming of age now.” McKay’s son, and training partner, Shaun will accompany Wolfgang on his Australian trip. “It works out well,” McKay said. “He has spent a bit of time in Melbourne, so he knows the set-up there. It is easier for Kim and myself to stay at home and control what is happening here.” View the full article
  3. Inglewood Stud is in the running to defend its title in the Karaka Millions 2YO (1200m). Gus and Bianca Wigley’s North Canterbury nursery bred and sold last year’s winner Velocious, whose subsequent victory in the Gr.1 Sistema Stakes (1200m) earned her Champion Two-Year-Old honours. Inglewood homebred Vega For Luck is now following the lead of the Stephen Marsh-trained filly with his debut success at Tauranga on Saturday rewarded with $14,375, which almost certainly guarantees a berth in January’s juvenile feature. The stud also bred and sold the two-year-old’s promising stablemate Myakkabelle, a daughter of resident sire War Decree, who broke her maiden at the weekend off consecutive runner-up finishes. “It was a really good day at Tauranga, that’s the aim of the game trying to breed good racehorses and they’re an exciting pair,” Gus Wigley said. A son of Lucky Vega, the Ben and Ryan Foote-prepared Vega For Luck was purchased out of Inglewood’s draft at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale for $60,000 by Hong Kong’s All Ahead Bloodstock. He is the first foal of the Darci Brahma mare Badea, a half-sister to the Gr.3 Eulogy Stakes (1600m) winner Lilikoi and a family that features the Group One winners Damson and Dubai Honour. “We try and buy two or three mares a year, I’m always looking and we can go to the Gold Coast for the Magic Millions Broodmare Sale and buy an expensive one and we’re quite happy to buy online as well,” Wigley said. “Badea was one that popped up on Gavelhouse in foal to Lucky Vega from a very good family and we bought her for $14,000, I thought she was a great buy and is a magnificent looking mare. “He (Vega For Luck) wasn’t very big but he always looked like an early two-year-old. “She’s turned out to be a nice purchase and we sent her over to Jacquinot in his first season and we’ve got a lovely filly.” Badea now has a positive 16-day test to Cambridge Stud’s new stallion Chaldean. “She’s gone to three first season sires in a row, we normally like to go to a proven stallion with our new mares so it’s nice to get a winner first-up,” Wigley said. “She’s off to a good start and hopefully can carry on with it.” A $55,000 Karaka yearling, Myakkabelle is out of the Irish-bred Lawman mare Myakka Park who is from a strong European family that features the multiple Group One winner and successful sire Stravinsky. “Myakka Park was a mare we bought at the Gold Coast (for A$120,000) and has left a useful Russian Revolution filly (Impulsivity) in Australia and then we sent her to War Decree,” Wigley said. “We thought she was a really good match physically and Myakkabelle was probably my favourite yearling by War Decree. “She’s absolutely gorgeous, a big staying type of filly who we sold to Jim Bruford and he’s racing her with some friends. “She’s taken a little bit of time to mature and things have started to click now.” Myakka Park had another Russian Revolution filly last season and has a colt by Windsor Park Stud stallion Profondo. “We really like what we’ve seen of the Profondos so we’re going back there and we’ll bring her back and probably serve her with War Decree again next year,” Wigley said. “War Decree is going really well, he’s been really popular and he’ll serve over 100 mares. “We’re very proud of him and we’ve put a lot of time, effort and money into trying to make a stallion and it’s pretty rewarding for us and everybody who has supported him.” View the full article

  5. Godolphin’s Traffic Warden. (Photo by Pat Scala/Racing Photos) Godolphin Australia has confirmed that their Street Boss colt, Traffic Warden, will contest this year’s The Everest (1200m), set for Saturday, October 19, at Royal Randwick. Following two stellar performances this campaign—a victory in the Group 2 Run to the Rose (1200m) and a strong second-place finish behind Broadsiding in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) James Cummings, Head Trainer for Godolphin Australia, expressed his confidence in the colt. “He’s come through his most recent run brilliantly, and third up he will be ready to peak on Everest day,” Cummings said. Jamie Kah, a multiple Group 1-winning jockey, will take the reins aboard Traffic Warden,” added Andy Makiv, Managing Director of Godolphin Australia. “We are thrilled to have Traffic Warden representing Godolphin in The Everest. He is an outstanding three-year-old colt by one of our best stallions in Street Boss and highlights the incredible efforts of our people, from the office teams, to the farms and the racing stables.” Following the news, Traffic Warden is currently an $8 hope with horse racing bookmakers for The Everest. 6. What Wangaratta Races Where Wangaratta Racecourse – Racecourse Rd, Wangaratta VIC 3677 When Tuesday, October 8, 2024 First Race 1:30pm AEDT Visit Dabble Horse racing in Victoria heads to Wangaratta on Tuesday afternoon, where a competitive eight-race meeting is set down for decision. Clear skies are forecast for raceday with the track already rated a Good 4, and with the rail in its true position, perfect conditions are set to greet competitors. The first race is set to jump at 1:30pm AEDT. Best Bet at Wangaratta: Porter Porter became a bit of a perennial bridesmaid at the end of last campaign, but first-up from a four-month spell has found an “easy kill” to return in. Damian Lane hops back on board for the third time in the son of So You Think’s career, and from barrier three, draws to gain every favour in running on the heels of the leaders. With even luck on the home turn, Porter should have no issue in disposing of his rivals and bringing up a second win at start 11. Best Bet Race 8 – #9 Porter (3) 4yo Gelding | T: Danny O’Brien | J: Damian Lane (61kg) Bet with Neds Next Best at Wangaratta: Captain Hilfiger Captain Hilfiger was arguably doing his best work late over 1800m at Flemington on September 22, which suggests the step up to 2000m should suit him perfectly. The three-year-old gelding finished three lengths off the winner, so a step back to country racing should see the son of Proisir break maiden ranks at the fifth time of asking. Ben Allen sticks on board, and with a genuinely run affair, Captain Hilfiger will prove too hard to hold out. Next Best Race 4 – #11 Captain Hilfiger (7) 3yo Gelding | T: Peter Gelagotis | J: Ben Allen (57kg) Bet with Playup Best Value at Wangaratta: Tribal Lands Tribal Lands produced a career-best performance at Wodonga on September 17 when hitting the line strongly from the rear of the field. The maiden he lines up in here looks no harder than what he was up against last time and should feature in the finish. Patrick Moloney will have the son of Star Witness at the rear of the field once more, but with plenty of speed in the race, Tribal Lands represents great value with horse racing bookmakers as the race shapes perfectly for him. 7. Toorak Handicap favourite, Another Wil. (Photo by George Sal/Racing Photos) The Ciaron Maher-trained Another Wil is set to line up in Saturday’s Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m), with assistant trainer Jack Turnbull confirming the progressive five-year-old gelding is up for the challenge. “Still a horse on the rise,” said Turnbull speaking with Racing.com. “Physically he’s got a big frame, a lot of size and length about him, but I think he’ll get better with age, and I can’t fault what he’s done to date, and I can only see him getting better. When asked about a Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) tilt later in the spring, Turnbull didn’t rule out the possibility, comparing him with stable companion Pride Of Jenni. “He’d make it very interesting,” Turnbull continued. “He’s pretty tractable. He can be handy, he can be mid-field, in the races that he’s run to date he’s been there about. “She’s obviously going to do her thing (Pride Of Jenni) if it were to be, I’d say he’d sort of be where Brightside (Mr) would normally be, just tracking up behind just having something to spot.” Another Wil is the clear $2.20 favourite with horse racing bookmakers for the 2024 Toorak Handicap, while $18.00 is available in futures markets for the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) set to be run on October 26 Horse racing news View the full article
  8. The Victorian tote is set to benefit, following news Tatts would roll several states pools into it. (Photo: LinkedIn) Australia will soon be a step closer to a national tote pool, following revelations Tatts is looking to merge smaller states into the Victorian tote pool by next year. News Limited is reporting Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory have made submissions to their state regulators to start the ball rolling. The move will further strengthen the Victorian tote pools, which the ACT and New Zealand already bet into, and isolate NSW, who will effectively be up against the rest of the country. Previously it has been reported that the Tatts tote was holding less than $500 in 60% of their markets, which is remarkably low, given how popular betting is in Australia. If the merger takes place without any dramas the push for a national tote will grow, but it will take some negotiating with Racing NSW, which is a traditional rival of Victoria. Tabcorp has been in a steady decline for some years as the online bookmaker industry has flourished, while returns from brick and mortar wagering establishments have faltered. Tabcorp has began the process of reinvigorating their business following the appointment of former AFL supremo Gillon McLachlan as CEO. Tabcorp is reportedly hopeful of rolling out the changes in early 2025. Horse racing news View the full article
  9. Jamie Kah will ride Point King (inside) in the 2024 Melbourne Cup at Flemington. (Photo by George Sal/Racing Photos) Star jockey Jamie Kah has secured the ride on Point King, trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman, for the Melbourne Cup. The Freedman stable confirmed the news via social media on Monday morning, with the lightweight hope on the third line of betting for the Melbourne Cup. The five-year-old, which will carry 50.5kg in the 3200m feature, is paying $15 to win and $4.50 the place in Melbourne Cup futures betting with Neds Australia. Kah committing to Point King means she will not ride The Map, a South Australian horse she has had notably success on, including two wins and a narrow Adelaide Cup defeat. The Map, which is also ballot exempt for the Melbourne Cup after winning the Andrew Ramsden, will be a hot ticket for lighter jockeys, with it set to carry 50kg at Flemington. Kah and Point King combined to claim victory in the Archer Stakes over 2500m in September, with this earning the Freedman horse a ticket into the Melbourne Cup. Kah is undefeated on the horse, having also guided Point King to a dominant win over 2040m at The Valley in August. Ben Melham piloted Point King to a runner-up finish in the Bart Cummings over 2520m on Saturday, narrowly missing out to Just Fine, the tiring leader. Kah will wear the famous navy blue silks with white armbands of record Cup-winning owner Lloyd Williams, who boasts seven Melbourne Cup victories, the latest in 2020. Point King’s ownership is shared with billionaire James Packer. Kah is set to return to racing on Caulfield Cup/Everest day, October 19, after completing a three-week suspension. 10. Back after serving a suspension, Alice Springs apprentice Dakota Gillett celebrated success at the Pioneer Park meeting on Sunday Returning from suspension, Alice Springs apprentice Dakota Gillett was back to her winning ways at Pioneer Park on Sunday. The 19-year-old celebrated her first Red Centre win since June when she piloted Beau Factor home over 1600m (BM64) for her father Terry Gillett, last season’s champion trainer in the Alice Springs and Provincial premiership. Beau Factor, a seven-year-old gelding by The Factor, started at $3 with online bookmakers before outclassing his rivals in his first 1600m assignment in a career that now spans 32 appearances. Controlling the tempo from the start in the five-horse field, Beau Factor sprinted clear in the home straight to seal victory by 3.6 lengths from Kerry Petrick’s Princess Pancakes ($5) with Gillett’s Altar Boy ($1.90 fav), who kept pace with its stablemate in second place before calling it a day at the 600m to finish a distant third. For Beau Factor, fifth and second in his first two starts for the Gillett stable after arriving from NSW, that made it four straight wins since late August after saluting twice over 1200m and then 1400m. After celebrating victory aboard her dad’s horse Little Ditty on Palmerston Sprint Day during the Darwin Cup Carnival in early August, Dakota then had two wins for Top End trainer Phil Cole on Katherine Cup Day. Accompanying Cole to outback Queensland for the Simpson Desert Racing Carnival, the teenager had a win for local trainer Jay Morris when the Cole entourage stopped at Mount Isa. It was when Gillett rode at Betoota on the last day of winter that she earned the wraith of stewards for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m in two races – that’s despite winning one of those races for Cole aboard Awen. Although permitted to ride at the Birdsville Cup meetings on September 6-7 where she had further success on Cole’s Turnstar, Gillett missed the Bedourie meeting due to suspension that was enforced until September 30. Gillett, with 55 wins in the NT, SA, NSW and Queensland, rode at Darwin on Saturday where she had six rides for Cole before featuring in four of the five races at Alice Springs. Perth-based jockey Kyra Yuill, a regular visitor to the NT in recent times, was back on deck at Pioneer Park after winning the $40,000 Moora Cup (1800m) – 170km north of Perth – aboard Justine Erkelens’ Roch Legacy ($2.35 fav) on Saturday. And Yuill made it four wins from 24 Alice Springs starts when she piloted Paul Gardner’s Lamoree ($3.50 fav), who hadn’t been racing well, to victory over 1100m (BM54). Kevin Lamprecht’s Travanti ($4.60), ridden by Aaron Sweeney, made it back to back wins, while Lisa Whittle’s Augusta Moon ($4.40), partnered by Paul Denton, and Greg Connor’s Flying Yishu ($5.50), who had apprentice Lek Maloney for company, were others to salute on Sunday. 13. Iron Man Cal, the 6-5 favorite, came up a hair short in a three-way photo finish to the GIII Zuma Beach Stakes, but was awarded the victory by the stewards after first-place finisher Artislas was disqualified and placed third. The result gave owners Little Red Feather Racing and Madaket Stable–as well as sire Collected and breeder Brereton Jones–a sweep of the Sunday graded races at Santa Anita after Thought Process (Collected) captured the GIII Surfer Girl Stakes earlier on the card. Iron Man Cal sat just off pacesetting longshot Ivan the Great (Kantharos), with Artislas just in behind him and Sabertooth in the next flight. Iron Man Cal tackled the pacesetter from the outside as Artislas was skimming the rail to take the lead into the stretch. Iron Man Cal matched that foe and the two were toe to toe at midstretch, while Sabertooth was finding his best stride. As the wire loomed, Artislas drifted out slightly, bumping Iron Man Cal, who in turn, bumped the rallying Sabertooth. Artislas got his nose in front on the line, but his victory was short lived as soon all three numbers were blinking on the board. Iron Man Cal was fourth behind Artislas while sprinting five furlongs over the Del Mar lawn Aug. 2. He graduated by 2 1/2 lengths when stretched to one mile at the seaside oval Sept. 7. Pedigree Notes: Iron Man Cal is the sixth graded winner for Airdie Stud's Collected. His dam, Joyful Dreams, has a yearling filly by Cairo Prince who sold for $30,000 at last month's Keeneland September sale. The mare produced a colt by Cairo Prince in 2024 and was bred back to Happy Saver. She is a half-sister to graded winners Kid Dreams (Lemon Drop Kid) and Dreamy Kid (Lemon Drop Kid), as well as to the dam of 2019 GIII Matron Stakes winner Lonely Road (Quality Road). 18. Thought Process turned over a new leaf since switching to a mile on the grass and the Madaket Stables, Little Red Feather Racing and the Estate of Brereton C. Jones runner underscored the point with an emphatic victory in Sunday's GIII Surfer Girl Stakes at Santa Anita. Breaking sharply, the 1-5 favorite soon went to the front, leading the way through a :23.17 quarter mile. Still moving confidently through a :47.69 half, the chestnut cut the corner with authority, drew clear down the lane and crossed the wire an eye-catching six-length winner over Casalu with Tigerish third. “I thought [Casalu] would go to the lead. Then I saw Kimura grab the filly, so I said, Let's go,” explained winning rider Hector Berrios. “She went really comfortably.” “The plan was we thought [Casalu] was going to the lead again, so we were going to sit second,” added winning trainer Phil D'Amato. “I don't think he was intent on having his filly go to the lead today. Hector smartly just took the lead and went the shortest way around.” Third sprinting 5 1/2 panels over the Del Mar dirt July 27, the Phil d'Amato trained filly rebounded to score by 3 1/2 lengths when stretch to a mile on the sod at the seaside venue Aug. 17. Pounded down to 2-5 for her latest attempt over that course and trip in the Sept. 7 Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf Stakes, Thought Process did not disappoint, posting a two-length victory. Thought Process will now target the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf Nov. 1 at Del Mar. “I was just very impressed with her,” D'Amato said. “It looks like there's more in the tank. I'm sure when we go to the Breeders' Cup she will definitely need more in the tank.” Pedigree Notes: GI Pacific Classic winner Collected earns his fifth graded stakes winner, courtesy of Thought Process's Surfer Girl win in Sunday's Surfer Girl. 22. 38-1 longshot Minaret Station (c, 2, Instilled Regard–Beau Recall {Ire}, by Sir Prancealot {Ire}) came flying in the final sixteenth to upset the GII Castle & Key Bourbon Stakes and earn his paid spot into the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf next month. Seeming to be hopelessly beaten as a trio of leaders spun off the far turn in tandem a ways ahead of him, the son of freshman stallion Instilled Regard (by Arch) switched off the rail at the eighth pole and was absolutely cruising in high gear to the wire, landing the upset ahead of 11-1 Golden Afternoon (Goldencents). Minaret Station is the first graded stakes winner for his sire. Lifetime Record: 3-2-0-1. O/B-OXO Equine, LLC; T-William Walden. 23. Idiomatic (m, 5, Curlin–Lockdown, by First Defence), the defending Eclipse champion older mare, capped a big day for Juddmonte Farms with a wire-to-wire victory in the GI Juddmonte Spinster Stakes at Keeneland Sunday. Hours after Bluestocking (GB) (Camelot {GB}) gave the operation its record seventh victory in the G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Idiomatic was sent off the 1-5 favorite in the Spinster, a Win and You're In event for the GI Breeders' Cup Distaff. The bay mare broke alertly and was soon at the head of affairs while pressed by Candied (Candy Ride {Arg}) on the first turn. She was clear as the quarter went up in :23.53 and a half in :47.01. A quick breather on the far turn allowed Candied the chance to re-engage the favorite, but Idiomatic easily turned her back again and she sailed home a six-length winner. Occult (Into Mischief) was second and Candied was third. Idiomatic's championship season a year ago included wins in the GI Personal Ensign Stakes and Spinster and ended with a win in the GI Breeders' Cup Distaff. She opened 2024 with a win in the May 3 GI La Troienne Stakes, but had a six-race win streak interrupted with a narrow loss to Randomized in the June 8 GI Ogden Phipps S. She was on the right side of a photo finish in the July 20 GIII Molly Pitcher Stakes, but missed by a head to Sunday's GII Beldame Stakes winner Raging Sea (Curlin) in the Aug. 23 GI Personal Ensign Stakes. BUILT (c, 2, Hard Spun–Sea Garden, by Curlin) finished fourth on debut, but then was elevated to third after another horse was disqualified at Ellis Park Aug. 24. The winner who collected a 'TDN Rising Star' badge for his effort and was just crowned as the GI Claiborne Breeders' Futurity champ was East Avenue (Medaglia d'Oro). As the 2-1 second choice here, Built raced in between runners out of the chute and then set up shop off sole leader Homer's Odyssey (Not This Time) as the field headed up the backstretch. Ranging up on the pacesetter around the far turn, the colt took over at the top of the lane, and had another gear to get the money by 1 1/2 lengths over Render Judgement (Blame). 'TDN Insight' runner Tuscaloosa (Candy Ride {Arg}) ended up ninth. The winner is the first registered foal for his dam. Sea Garden produced a colt by Union Rags last year and she was bred to Flameaway for 2025. Sales History: $82,000 Ylg '23 KEESEP; $260,000 2yo '24 OBSAPR. Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-1, $64,204. 25. Seemingly hopelessly beaten turning for home in Sunday's GIII Matron Stakes, Abientot turned on all boosters late to collect her first career black-type victory in New York. Breaking well from the 10-hole, the Tracy Farmer runner was eased to the back by Dylan Davis as first Flirting With Time (Yorkton) and then Laurice (Bolt d'Oro) led through opening fractions of :21.58 and :44.48. Finally unfurling her legs turning for home, Abientot was moving twice as fast as everyone else down the lane, caught the front running rank in the final strides and won by a long neck over the closing duo of Civetta and Yougottahavehope. “She ran great. [It was an] impressive race. She just keeps putting up one better performance after another,” said Davis. “I wanted to be involved and have a good break. I thought maybe mid-pack would be the best place to be. I broke her and [we] came out with some intention, but they were just running her off her feet so Plan B–sit back. I tried to save as much ground as possible. Explaining the wide trip, he added, “I opted for the outside spot, gave her a clear run and she put on a performance. She really mowed them down. She's getting better and better every start. It was an impressive run and a thrill for me.” Abientot kicked off her career with a fourth in a six-furlong turf test during the Belmont at the Big A meet last June before coming home a 1/2-length winner at the Spa July 18. Taking a shot at the off-turf Bolton Landing Stakes over 5 1/2 furlongs Aug. 18, the Keeneland graduate faded never got into the mix of things and had to settle for seventh. Returning to the turf for her latest start, the dark bay was a respectable third in the 6 1/2-furlong Untapable Stabkes at Kentucky Downs Sept. 8. “She's just tiny and we've been able to bring her along since April. She's a barn favorite,” added Mark Casse's assistant Shane Tripp. “The way she came home today was unbelievable and Dylan [Davis] has got to be one of the better riders on the planet right now. We're blessed to have him in our life. She has a lot of heart. She's real gritty and honest. She trains real forwardly and she's good to be around.” Pedigree Notes: Abientot's Matron victory gives her sire, Not This Time, his 38th black-type winner and 17th graded scorer at stud. The unraced More Than Ready mare Ready Ready Ready is responsible for six foals, among them four to race, including Canadian Champion 2-year-old Mr. Hustle (Declaration of War) and GSP Malibu Coast (Malibu Moon). The 12-year-old mare most recently produced a Nyquist colt last term and was bred back to Uncle Mo this season.
