  1. I guess the guess the faster track has had a massive effect on the injury rates. Would be interesting to know why things have gone down hill like they have.
  2. Just watched the first race from the Wanganui straight track and couldn’t believe the unprofessionalism shown. I thought it was against the rules to have cellphones at the start of a race. Interestingly enough one of the culprits appears to be GRNZs national track curator who quite clearly took a call while waiting on the start of the race.
  3. Interesting the winning times coming out of Ascot Park lately. They seem to be running around at least 0.5 of a second quicker. One wonders what has changed as this was always a slow surface. Hopefully the quickening up doesn’t result in more injuries.
  4. I thought they said straight track racing was cleaner racing. The way some of those dogs run across the track will be a recipe for disaster. I wonder how the PBD will be worked out for this. I guess we will find out come June 28 as the TAB have this down as an 18 race card with a mix of straight and circle racing.
  5. Looks like we have had an update. Auckland has been dropped from leading the pack and now Manawatu have taken there place.
  6. Hey Yankiwi, have you checked out the latest grnz animal health and welfare committee meeting minutes from December. Micheal Dore says that Manakau and Cambridge continue to lead the pack in terms of low rates of injury. Might be time you left Manakau alone
  7. Hey Yankiwi seen this come up today from GRNZ, maybe an opportunity for you to get in and start trying to make changes from the inside. https://www.seek.co.nz/job/73751155?ref=search-standalone&type=standout#sol=f80a666b24379d4b725961fda1c8df7e830beb05
  8. Thanks for the reply, Why would they choose to use a sand that doesn’t bind together? Is the track at Invercargill the same as far as sand not binding together goes? I’ve never been to the track in Invercargill but I have heard good things about the sand there.
  9. How are trainers finding the new surface at Addington? It’s been in use for around 3 months now and reading the stipes reports the injury rate seems to be slightly less? Would be interested to hear the thoughts of some owners/trainers who race there.
  10. It’s common knowledge that there needs to be another track in Christchurch, but at the moment there’s not and one would say realistically there probably won’t be 1 ready in the next 12 months at least. Like you lad I can’t see addington handling 4 meetings a week every week, so something would need to change. By removing dates out of Otago/Southland the opportunities for dogs who don’t like addington are gone currently until something else is built and also the chance for the middle to higher graded dogs to run out nominations like is currently possible in both districts in the north. As for the big trainer who it will hurt the most, his dogs will flood back into addington as has been pointed out in another post here therefore pushing out those smaller trainers. If it was me making the decision about the South Island I would be having Southland run every 2nd week like they were pre Covid until there is an alternate venue up and running in Christchurch.
