Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted August 14, 2023 Journalists Share Posted August 14, 2023 What Sandown Lakeside Races Where Sandown Racecourse – 591-659 Princes Hwy, Springvale VIC 3171 When Wednesday, August 16, 2023 First Race 1pm AEST Visit Ladbrokes Racing returns to Sandown this Wednesday afternoon as the Melbourne Racing Club hosts a very competitive eight-race card on the Lakeside course. The track is currently rated a Good 4, and with no rain on the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, we expect to be racing on a perfect surface for the entire program. The rail will be in the +5m position all the way around, with racing set to kick off at 1pm AEST. Best Bet at Sandown: Miss Take Miss Take was impressive last start when she won her first race on Australian soil. The four-year-old mare from the Anthony & Sam Freedman yard jumped as the favourite with most online bookmakers at Sale over 1205m on July 23, and after settling outside the leader, she hit the front as the field entered the home straight and ran away with a dominant half-length victory. This daughter of War Decree broke her maiden in New Zealand on debut and then finished fourth in the Listed Canterbury Belle before being sent across the ditch to the Freedmans. With the aid of Mattew Cartwright’s 1.5kg claim, we should see this mare push forward and settle outside the leader or in the one-one in an attempt to replicate her last-start success. After recording a massive six-length maiden victory first-up, the four-year-old mare won at her next start but was later disqualified due to the debacle around Wirremu Pinn’s claim when he first arrived in Victoria. However, the Maher & Eustace team entered this daughter of Toronado in the Creswick Stakes at Flemington, where she finished fifth but was far from disgraced. Dropping in class with senior hoop Mark Zahra taking the ride, expect Extratwo to perform much better on Wednesday. Next Best Race 8 – #13 Extratwo (8) 4yo Mare | T: Ciaron Maher & David Eustace | J: Mark Zahra (57.5kg) Bet with Boombet Best Value at Sandown: Daiquiri Kicking off his second campaign with the Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young yard, Daiquiri will be looking to replicate his strong win when fresh on his Australian debut at Ballarat on April 26. The stable has given this four-year-old gelding a similar preparation this time in, including a 1200m trial where he was ridden out in the final stages to record a one-length victory. This son of Lope De Vega will begin this campaign over 1400m, not 1600m like last time, but with a strong trial under his belt and a good fresh record in Australia, we are happy to be with him.
