Recent Scarborough Stakes results

  • 2022: Queen Of The Ball thrashes rivals
Going up against the more-fancied Troach ($9.50) and English Riviera ($3.20), Queen Of The Ball ($6.00) showed her tenacity to prevail from start to finish in the $200,000 Scarborough Stakes at Moonee Valley on Friday night. Expertly ridden by jockey Blake Shinn, the three-year-old jumped to the front inside the first 200m from barrier seven while finding the rail, because Shinn knew Michael Freedman’s sprinter had the heart to be a frontrunner and prevail. Having given nothing else a chance, Queen of The Ball would go on to beat Troach comfortably by 1.5 lengths, while English Riviera would eventually finish three lengths off the eventual winner back in third to signify just how good the win was.
  • 2021: Seradess arrives in time
Trained by Mark & Levi Kavanagh, Seradess ($6.50) managed to gun down Godolphin’s Larkspur Run ($4.20) in a dramatic edition of the Scarborough Stakes. The three-year-old filly was having her second start for her spring campaign and under a well-timed steer from Luke Currie managed to add another Stakes victory to an already impressive resume. Having gained a gun run in transit, Seradess was in need of a run on the home turn. Once the gap appeared, Seradess produced a stunning finishing burst to get up in a photo finish and win the Scarborough Stakes.
  • 2020: Swats That shows Group 1 potential
Having been luckless first-up from a spell, the Leon & Troy Corstens-trained Swats That ($3.30) managed to overcome a wide run in transit to claim the Group 3 Scarborough Stakes. Obliged to settle three wide with no cover, John Allen had the daughter of Shamus Award hitting the lead on the home turn and had enough left in the tank to hold off the fast-finishing Highly Discreet ($21) and race favourite Dirty Thoughts ($2.60).
  • 2019: Loving Gaby returns in style
First-up as a three-year-old filly, the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Loving Gaby ($6) produced a stunning performance to claim the Group 3 Scarborough Stakes. Having settled towards the rear of the field under Damian Lane, the classy filly managed to loop the field to get the better of the in-form filly of the spring to date Exhilarates ($3.40) by a neck, with fellow market fancy Villami ($3.80) back in third, a half-length off Loving Gaby.
