(Photo by Scott Barbour/Racing Photos) Saturday’s Group 3 Vain Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield Racecourse will mark the return of Blue Diamond Stakes winner Little Brose. Now a three-year-old, the colt has not been seen at the races since finishing eighth in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) on March 18. Little Brose is set to be part of a two-horse war over the sprint trip at Caulfield, with Godolphin’s Cylinder opening as an odds-on chance to return a winner first-up. Trainer James Cummings said during the week that Cylinder would prove hard to beat, but those chances may have taken a slight blow with the colt drawn in the widest barrier in the field of seven. The pair will be joined by fellow Stakes winners Krakarib and I Am Unstoppable, who both look set for fruitful spring campaigns. The Vain Stakes was the launching point for an incredible spring campaign in 2022 for Giga Kick, who won the race just two starts before saluting in The Everest (1200m). Saturday’s Group 3 Vain Stakes is the eighth race in Caulfield’s Saturday meeting, which is headlined by the Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m).
