(Photo by Brett Holburt/Racing Photos) Melbourne Cup winner, Craig Williams, sets his sight on claiming the Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes for a third time at Caulfield. Williams, renowned for his competitive edge and racing finesse, is optimistic about his chances in the forthcoming race. Williams’s successful mounts in 2017 and 2022 have made him one of the elite competitors in the history of the Lawrence Stakes. The accomplished jockey now aspires to add a third win to his name. The fan-favourite rider told journalists, “It’s a race I’ve had a bit of luck in before and it would be great to get another one.” With this year’s event, the Melbourne-based jockey is paired with short-priced favourite Mr Brightside, with the pair claiming the 2022 edition race in thrilling fashion. “Comparing him to 12 months ago, he’s a completely different horse but he’s no different in his physique as to where he started off his last preparation when he won the All-Star Mile and the Doncaster,” Williams said. “He’s starting off a good base and all I can report in difference from his last preparation is that he is now a lot calmer. “I’m really happy with him going there because sometimes he can be a little bit fresh when he starts his preparations off. The P.B. Lawrence Stakes is the featured event on the 10-race program at Caulfield Racecourse on Saturday afternoon.
