What Ballarat Races
Where Ballarat Turf Club – 240 Kennedys Rd, Miners Rest VIC 3352
When Tuesday, August 22, 2023
First Race 1pm AEST

Visit Ladbrokes

The all-weather track at Ballarat Turf Club is scheduled to host an eight-race program on Tuesday afternoon. With a top of 12 degrees and consistent showers forecast on the day, being up on speed should be no disadvantage as jockeys look to avoid any potential kickback. Racing gets underway at 1pm AEST.

Best Bet at Ballarat: Snappy Magnus

Snappy Magnus is a 63-rater in a BM58, and despite needing to lug 62.5kg, we expect he will prove too hard to run down. The six-year-old gelding looks the natural leader on paper over this 1100m scamper, and if Declan Bates can make this a genuinely run affair, Snappy Magnus should have a bit too much toe for this lot.

Best Bet

Race 4 – Silks#1 Snappy Magnus (6)

6yo Gelding | T: Danielle Chapman | J: Declan Bates (62.5kg)

$2.90 with PlayUp

Next Best at Ballarat: Mattei

We were with the Mitch Freedman-trained Mattei when he broke his maiden on August 15, and he looks well placed on the quick backup in this BM64. The four-year-old gelding has a win and a runner-up finish from his three career starts, so his record trumps most of these. Tahlia Hope will stalk the speed throughout from barrier one, and when the gap appears at the top of the straight, we expect Mattei to burst through and bring up yet another win on the Ballarat synthetic.

Next Best

Race 7 – Silks#5 Mattei (1)

4yo Gelding | T: Mitch Freedman | J: Tahlia Hope (59kg)

$2.80 with Boombet

Next Best Again at Ballarat: Stormie

The Paul Koumis-trained Stormie broke his maiden in dominant fashion at this track over 2100m on August 7, winning by 4.5 lengths eased down. A return to the track and trip in BM64 company looks ideal for the son of Supido in what does not look to be the strongest field on paper. In the small field of five, Stormie will not be too far from the lead throughout, and a similar performance to his maiden triumph should be too good for this lot.

Next Best Again

Race 1 – Silks#2 Stormie (4)

4yo Gelding | T: Paul Koumis | J: Paul Gatt (57kg)

$2.70 with Bet365
