Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted August 22, 2023 Journalists Share Posted August 22, 2023 What Gosford Races Where The Entertainment Grounds – 4 Racecourse Rd, West Gosford NSW 2250 When Thursday, August 24, 2023 First Race 12:35pm AEST Visit Ladbrokes Racing heads to the NSW Central Coast on Thursday afternoon as Gosford hosts an ultra-competitive eight-race program. The rail sits in the true position throughout the circuit, and despite a sprinkling of rain forecast leading in, we don’t expect the surface to be downgraded from the current Soft 5 rating prior to the opening race at 12:35pm AEST. Best Bet: Pier Pressure Pier Pressure returns to the track this week after an amazing autumn campaign. She didn’t find a win as a two-year-old, but she did run into some testing Group 1 company and even managed a minor placing in the ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes on April 1 at Randwick. The daughter of Press Statement has had two eye-catching barrier trials on her way back from an 18-week spell, and provided she brings her Group 1 quality to Gosford, Kris Lees looks to have placed her beautifully to secure a maiden victory. Best Bet Race 2 – #11 Pier Pressure (3) 3yo Filly | T: Kris Lees | J: Dylan Gibbons (55kg) $1.90 with Bet365 Next Best: Highland Cathedral It’s hard to believe Highland Cathedral is yet to break her maiden status in 11 attempts; however, this looks an ideal setup for this four-year-old mare to find victory. She’s now third-up for Annabel Neasham and seems to have found her natural racing pattern up on speed. She very nearly made every post a winner at Muswellbrook on August 11, bolting clear of her rivals before bumping into one better in the form of Golden Passport. Jett Stanley will employ similar tactics on Thursday, looking to ping the lids from barrier nine. If Highland Cathedral can get across comfortably enough, she’ll take some beating. Next Best Race 1 – #5 Highland Cathedral (9) 4yo Mare | T: Annabel Neasham | J: Jett Stanley (a2kg) (57kg) $4.50 with Neds Next Best Again: Captain Amelia Captain Amelia is set to resume from a 19-week spell and looks extremely hard to beat. She’s dual-accepted for a race at Randwick (Kensington) on Wednesday, but this seems like a much more manageable task for the Dundeel filly. Her two-year-old form jumps off the page, breaking her maiden before heading to the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes at Randwick on April 8, where she struggled with the Heavy track conditions. She has trialled well on return, and with James McDonald booked, we’re hopeful they head here.
