Visit Ladbrokes

The Bendigo Jockey Club is set to host a competitive eight-race program on Thursday afternoon. Perfect weather is forecast leading up to the day, so there should be no excuses for any runners who mean business. The track is rated a Good 4, the rail is out 3m the entire trip, and racing commences at 1pm AEST.

Best Bet at Bendigo – Handshake

Paul Preusker’s Handshake has struck a purple patch of form in recent times, with two wins and three minors from his past five runs. The six-year-old gelding thrashed a BM58 field at Warrnambool on July 31 and now strikes a somewhat similar field. From barrier seven, if Ryan Houston can land the one-one – or, at worst, midfield with cover – the pair should be continuing their winning form.

Best Bet

Race 5 – Silk #2 Handshake (7)

Next Best at Bendigo – Awol

Hailing from the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace barn, Awol returned with a narrow third at Swan Hill on August 3. The four-year-old missed the kick first-up and did well to finish within a half-length of the eventual winner. His lone career win came second-up at the Warrnambool 1400m when leading throughout, and if John Allen can find the front on Thursday, Awol can go two from two second-up.

Next Best

Race 8 – Silk #8 Awol (4)

4yo Gelding | T: Ciaron Maher & David Eustace | J: John Allen (59kg)

Next Best Again at Bendigo – Red Dates

Having not been seen since finishing third behind Scheelite at Sandown in April, three-year-old Red Dates looks set to return a winner on Thursday. The Extreme Choice filly wasn’t beaten far by Group 1-calibre fillies at her only other start at Cranbourne and, without a doubt, brings the best form lines into this race. From barrier eight, Blake Shinn will take luck out of the equation and have Red Dates leading upon settling, and from there she should prove too hard to gun down.

Next Best Again

Race 3 – Silk #8 Red Dates (8)

3yo Filly | T: Leon & Troy Corstens | J: Blake Shinn (56kg)
