Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted August 30, 2023 Journalists Share Posted August 30, 2023 What Birdsville Races Where Birdsville Racecourse – Adelaide St, Birdsville QLD 4482 When Friday, September 1, 2023 First Race 1:27pm AEST Visit Ladbrokes The iconic Birdsville Races return this Friday with a six-race program on the dirt. With no rain in the region, the track should be in good condition. The rail will be in the true position for the entire circuit, with the first race of the two-day carnival set to jump at 1:27pm AEST. Best Bet at Birdsville – Nannu After finishing second at the Birdsville carnival last year, the Rodney Robb-trained Nannu return to the Simpson Desert to try and go one better. This four-year-old gelding has only missed the placings once through five starts this preparation, including a victory two starts back at Nyngan over 1250m where he won by a nose. At his last start, this son of Rubick finished second at Dubbo, which is some of the best form of any runner in this race. If Richard Bensley can push forward and settle behind the speed from barrier 10, Nannu should go very close to winning again. Best Bet Race 6 – #2 Nannu (10) 4yo Gelding | T: Rodney Robb | J: Richard Bensley (62kg) Bet with PendleburyBet Next Best at Birdsville – The General The General will be having his third start for Craig Smith. This seven-year-old gelding began with a win for his new trainer at Morven on August 5, before finishing fourth at Rockhampton in an Open Handicap on August 17 last start. Given that this son of Charm Spirit was racing well in Brisbane earlier this year, we expect his class to give him an edge in a race like this. Les Tilley will settle this guy outside the leader before kicking clear to give his rivals something to chase. Next Best Race 5 – #4 The General (7) 7yo Gelding | T: Craig Smith | J: Les Tilley (58.5kg) Bet with Dabble Best Value at Birdsville – Sequacious The opening race of the carnival will feature Sequacious from the Rodney Hay yard, who broke her maiden last start at Betoota over 1000m on August 26. This daughter of Better Than Ready hasn’t finished outside the top two at her two runs for her new trainer, and she appears to have found another winnable race third-up. The four-year-old mare will drop down to 54.5kg due to Nikki Olzard’s 3kg claim, which should prove pivotal as she will push forward and sit outside the likely leader, Little Town Blues, who will carry over 12kg more than her. Best Value Race 1 – #5 Sequacious (5) 4yo Mare | T: Rodney Hay | J: Nikki Olzard (a3) (57.5kg) Bet with Neds Friday quaddie tips for Birdsville Birdsville quadrella selections Friday, September 1, 2023 1-3 1-2-6 4-6 1-2-7 Investment: $36 for 100% More racing tips View the full article
