The Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) barrier draw has thrown a spanner in the works, with the three horses at the top of the market drawing poorly.

Mr Brightside ($4) and Alligator Blood ($6) have drawn barriers 15 and 14 respectively in the field of 15, while I Wish I Win ($3.60) will need an abundance of luck having drawn barrier one for the $750,000 feature.

The three favourites have been somewhat brought back to the pack in a strong field of 15 that includes some proven Group 1 weight-for-age runners.

Aegon ($26) caught the eye first-up when hitting the line strongly behind Mr Brightside in the Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m).

The Inevitable ($34) will have his first start since finishing third in the All-Star Mile (1600m) earlier this year.

As always in the Memsie Stakes, plenty of attention will go towards the new-season four-year-olds as they look to take the step into weight-for-age company.

Osipenko ($10), Bank Maur ($61) and Amenable ($27) all caught the eye in Group company as three-year-olds and are all expected to feature prominently during the Melbourne Spring Carnival.

The Group 1 Memsie Stakes is the penultimate event on the 10-part program at Caulfield on Saturday afternoon, with the race set to jump at 4:50pm AEST.
