Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted August 30, 2023 Journalists Share Posted August 30, 2023 Alligator Blood has drawn poorly for the Group 1 Memsie Stakes. (Picture: Racing Photos) The Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) barrier draw has thrown a spanner in the works, with the three horses at the top of the market drawing poorly. Mr Brightside ($4) and Alligator Blood ($6) have drawn barriers 15 and 14 respectively in the field of 15, while I Wish I Win ($3.60) will need an abundance of luck having drawn barrier one for the $750,000 feature. The three favourites have been somewhat brought back to the pack in a strong field of 15 that includes some proven Group 1 weight-for-age runners. Aegon ($26) caught the eye first-up when hitting the line strongly behind Mr Brightside in the Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m). The Inevitable ($34) will have his first start since finishing third in the All-Star Mile (1600m) earlier this year. As always in the Memsie Stakes, plenty of attention will go towards the new-season four-year-olds as they look to take the step into weight-for-age company. Osipenko ($10), Bank Maur ($61) and Amenable ($27) all caught the eye in Group company as three-year-olds and are all expected to feature prominently during the Melbourne Spring Carnival. The Group 1 Memsie Stakes is the penultimate event on the 10-part program at Caulfield on Saturday afternoon, with the race set to jump at 4:50pm AEST. 2023 Memsie Stakes Final Field No. Silks Horse Trainer Jockey Barrier Weight 1 Mr Brightside Ben, Will & JD Hayes Craig Williams 15 59kg 2 I Wish I Win Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman Luke Nolen 1 59kg 3 Alligator Blood Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Tim Clark 14 59kg 4 Nonconformist Grahame Begg Harry Coffey 6 59kg 5 Aegon Andrew Forsman Michael Dee 13 59kg 6 The Inevitable Tegan Keys David Pires 11 59kg 7 Western Empire John Leek (Jnr) Arron Lynch 9 59kg 8 Bandersnatch Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes TBC 10 59kg 9 Duke De Sessa Ciaron Maher & David Eustace Ethan Brown 5 59kg 10 Osipenko Chris Waller TBC 2 58.5kg 11 Bank Maur Richard Laming Jye McNeil 7 58.5kg 12 Amenable Mick Price & Michael Kent (Jnr) Jamie Kah 12 58.5kg 13 Princess Grace Chris Waller TBC 3 57kg 14 Annavisto Mick Price & Michael Kent (Jnr) Damian Lane 4 57kg 15 Steinem Ciaron Maher & David Eustace John Allen 8 57kg More horse racing news View the full article
