Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted October 6, 2018 Journalists Share Posted October 6, 2018 Like so many of the Breeders’ Cup preps staged at Keeneland on its opening weekend, Sunday’s GIII Dixiana Bourbon S., a ‘Win and You’re In’ qualifier for the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf, features an overload field and any number of win candidates. Bloom Racing Stable LLC’s Henley’s Joy (Kitten’s Joy) belied debut odds of 14-1 to score a professional victory going a mile over the Ellis Park turf course July 21 and retained an unblemished record with a last-jump defeat of Tracksmith (Street Sense) in the Sept. 1 Kentucky Downs Juvenile S. Eclipse Award winner Tyler Gaffalione returns in the saddle. War of Will (War Front) faltered to third as the chalk after setting the pace in a seven-furlong Woodbine maiden Aug. 24, but Lasix went on for the GI Summer S. and the bay led clear into the final eighth of a mile, only to be run over late by favored Fog of War (War Front). Drayden Van Dyke is in from California for the mount. Current (Curlin) gave a good account of himself when a running-on third to the Summer S. favorite in a 5 1/2-furlong Saratoga maiden Aug. 13 and the $725,000 Keeneland September graduate improved for that effort and for the stretch out to a mile to post a three-length success Sept. 8. Mick’s Star (Point of Entry) looms an interesting outsider for his turf debut despite an awkward draw in gate 13. A 5 3/4-length graduate at first asking at Indiana Grand July 24, the dark bay pounded non-two-lifetime allowance company by 8 ½ lengths Aug. 28. He should handle both this added distance and new surface, as he is out of a half-sister to GII West Virginia Derby winner Macho Macho (Macho Uno) and is from the Golden Eagle family of Grade I-winning turfer Designed For Luck (Rahy).
