Prominent jockey James McDonald, a seven-time Sydney premiership winner, is facing an unexpected setback in his racing career.

Following a fall at Wyong last Friday, it was initially believed that he had escaped major injury, allowing him to participate in races at Randwick the following day.

Despite riding in discomfort, McDonald brought up a riding double, demonstrating his remarkable resilience.

However, recent scans have revealed a more severe injury than initially anticipated—a fractured foot.

As a result, McDonald will be sidelined for the next month to focus on his recovery.

The news comes ahead of a big day of racing at Rosehill on Saturday including partnering with horses like Kovalica (Theo Marks Stakes), Zapateo (Sheraco Stakes), and Kandinsky Abstract (Run To The Rose).

One notable loss due to this injury is McDonald’s coveted ride on Golden Slipper winner Shinzo, the favorite for the Golden Rose on September 23.

Moreover, he faces a race against time to participate in The Everest and to team up with Hong Kong superstar Romantic Warrior for the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes at Flemington on October 7.

James McDonald’s absence from the racing scene will be keenly felt, and fans will be eagerly awaiting his return as he aims to bounce back for the remainder of the spring season.
