Freville Swoops Late for Prix d’Aumale Triumph

Gerard Augustin-Normand's Freville (Fr) (Gleneagles {Ire}–Freauville {Fr}, by Le Havre {Ire}) and Joseph O'Brien trainee Kalispera (Ire) (Ten Sovereigns {Ire}) were the most battle-hardened of seven contenders lining up for Thursday's G3 Prix d'Aumale at ParisLongchamp and the one-mile contest boiled down to a head-to-head between the pair, with the former swooping late for a career best.

Last month's Listed Criterium du Fonds Europeen de l'Elevage fourth raced sixth of the seven runners through the early stages, but slipped back to become the whipper-in approaching halfway. Shaken up in early straight with 500 metres remaining, the 22-5 chance made relentless headway out wide to go third inside the furlong pole and quickened smartly in the dying embers to score by a neck from G2 Debutante S. and G3 Flame Of Tara S. third Kalispera. Shadwell's hitherto undefeated Alshinfarah (Ire) (Noble Mission {GB}) attempted to make all and finished the same margin adrift in third.

Freville is the lone reported foal produced by an unraced daughter of Listed Prix Miss Satamixa victrix Fresles (Ire) (Royal Applause {GB}), herself a half-sister to G3 Prix Andre Baboin winner Celtic Rock (GB) (Rock Of Gibraltar {Ire}) and G3 Prix Vanteaux runner-up La Pernelle (Ire) (Beat Hollow {GB}). Fresles is also a half-sister to the unraced Lunashkaya (GB) (Muhtathir {GB}), whose descendants include Listed Prix Melisande third Moskova (Fr) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) and last term's G3 Prix La Force victor Mister Saint Paul (Fr) (Dariyan {Fr}).
