Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted September 12, 2023 Journalists Share Posted September 12, 2023 What Kembla Grange Races Where Kembla Grange Racecourse – Princes Highway, Kembla Grange NSW 2526 When Thursday, September 14, 2023 First Race 1:35pm AEST Visit Ladbrokes Kembla Grange is set to host a very competitive seven-race program on Thursday afternoon. The rail is out +3m from the 1100m to the winning post, while the remainder will be in the true position. The forecast looks favourable, with sunny skies ahead and only a minor chance of rain for race-day, so we’ll be expecting a Good 4 surface for the opening race at 1:35pm AEST. Best Bet: Frilled Frilled has been terrific in her two starts to date, going on to score by a combined five lengths in both victories. The Matthew Smith barn have taken their time with the daughter of Star Witness, spacing those wins a month apart before sending her for an 18-week spell. A dominant barrier trial last month suggests she has lost nothing during that time away, and with the tactical advantage from barrier one, look for Frilled to make every post a winner. Best Bet Race 1 – #5 Frilled (1) 4yo Mare | T: Matthew Smith | J: Kerrin McEvoy (58kg) -105.26 with BoomBet Next Best: Koning Koning was a strong debutant at Kembla Grange on August 26 and should improve with race experience under his belt. It was always going to be a tough ask first-up over 1400m, and the task was made even more difficult when sitting in the back half of the field turning for home. The colt by Kingman hit a flat spot between the 400m-200m but closed off sharply, only missing by 0.2 lengths. The Freedman camp has elected to put blinkers on to help him settle from barrier one, and with a much more economical run, Koning can go one better on Thursday. Next Best Race 4 – #2 Koning (1) 3yo Colt | T: Richard & Will Freedman | J: Tyler Schiller (58kg) +360 with Bet365 Next Best Again: Riff Rocket Riff Rocket had a mixed bag last preparation, breaking his maiden first-up at Geelong on April 28 and then failing to fire a shot at Flemington on May 20. It was surprising given the impressive nature of his debut win, but heading back to the jump-outs in Sydney seems to have done the three-year-old a world of good. We loved his latest barrier trial, as he coasted through the line at Rosehill on September 5, and he looks a more well-rounded galloper heading into this.
