Visit Ladbrokes

TwilightHong Kong racing racing heads back to Sha Tin Racecourse this Sunday afternoon for a competitive 10-race program shared between the turf and all-weather circuit. The rail for the turf course is in the B position for the meeting, and with a strong chance of rain hitting the track, we’ll be expecting a yielding surface at some stage throughout the race card. The first race is set to get underway at 1pm HKT (3pm AEST).

Best Bet at Sha Tin: Self Improvement

Self Improvement is set to make his seasonal return in the opening race of the program and looks ideally placed to break his Hong Kong maiden. The Australian import had four starts last season, with his best performance coming on the all-weather circuit behind Gummy Gummy on June 18. He was only beaten by a length and cleared out by 2.5 lengths back to third spot. The son of Deep Field has had two strong barrier trials heading into this first-up assignment, and with the services of Zac Purton acquired, Self Improvement should be finding his first Hong Kong victory.

Next Best at Sha Tin: Ka Ying Warrior

Ka Ying Warrior has been a work-in-progress for a long time in Dennis Yip’s stable and is set to have his second start on Sunday afternoon. His only run came down the Sha Tin 1000m straight course where he bundled the start finishing a long-last on December 18. Since that failure he’s headed back to the jump-outs on a total of five occasions, all of which have shown plenty of promise. There’s no doubt you’ll be taking a risk and backing Ka Ying Warrior on trust; however, if Zac Purton is willing to take the risk, so are we.

Next Best Again at Sha Tin: Greenwich

We tipped Greenwich as our best bet last Sunday at Sha Tin and things just never went to plan for the four-year-old gelding. He bombed the start from barrier six and left Zac Purton with no choice but to sit on a three-wide line throughout the 1200m contest. It left him vulnerable late and being first-up was always going to be a tough ask for the son of War Decree. They elect to head up into Class 3 company, giving Greenwich 6.5kg relief in the weights, and although he’s drawn awkwardly again, we expect Alexis Badel to find the front at some stage and prove very hard to beat.
