Country racing heads to Coffs Harbour on Monday afternoon kicking off the new week of racing with an ultra-competitive eight-race program set for decision. The rail is out +3m between the 1000m-300m, while the remainder will sit in the true. The course should be in pristine condition with sunny skies predicted leading into race-day, so expect the track to be a firming Good 4 surface. The opening race is set to get underway at 12:45pm AEST.

Best Bet at Coffs Harbour: Powder Man

Powder Man looks ready to step up in trip after three starts this preparation and looks perfectly placed in the second race at Coffs Harbour. The son of Smart Missile has repeatedly closed well, especially his last start at Grafton on September 2, chasing home Golden Breeze to be defeated 1.4 lengths. Donna Grisedale clearly seems like 1400m will suit based on what she’s seen, and we aren’t about to argue. Jockey Jon Grisedale should be close to the one-one from barrier three, and from there we expect Powder Man to close best in this Class 1 affair.

Next Best at Coffs Harbour: Bjorn Ironside

The sixth race on the program is for maiden company and the market seems to be gravitating with two runners. Both Bjorn Ironside and Dancing Tilda were placed behind Rocky Rogue at this course and distance on September 4, and we want to make the case for the former. Bjorn Ironside was exposed a long way out but still powered through the line, and we think the gelding by Real Impact can turn-the-tables with a more economical run in transit. Bjorn Ironside draws to get a better run than the favourite, so at the price, we’re happy to lean his way.

Best Value at Coffs Harbour: On Hargrave

On Hargrave has only found the frame once in four-career starts; however, her two starts this campaign have been very promising. The daughter of Spieth rocketed home on both occasions, with the latest at Sunshine Coast on September 3 catching the eye. There should be a genuine tempo for On Hargrave to tag on the back of turning for home this time, and provided Josh Adams can find a spot with cover from barrier eight, we’re convinced he can only run well here.
