Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted September 18, 2023 Journalists Share Posted September 18, 2023 Harness Racing New Zealand’s Blue September campaign has exceeded the $15,000 mark. The country’s leading driver Blair Orange has a total of seven wins raising up to $300 per win, with Matty White, Jonny Cox, Nathan Williamson and Matty Williamson all on three wins. Zachary Butcher, Robbie Close and Mark Hurrell are sitting on two wins for the campaign. This is the third year that HRNZ has been involved, with 12 ambassadors, each wearing their distinctive blue pants, raising money every time they win a race during the month. HRNZ and clubs donate $100 per win and each driver has their own sponsors and supporters as well. So far there have been 25 wins. This week 11 of the ambassadors will drive in a Male Only race at Motukarara along with Tim Williams, Jim Curtin and Ben Hope as part of the campaign. Mark Hurrell won the 2021 edition of this race and Robbie Close won the 2022 edition. Other activities on the day will include the inaugural running of the “Blue Bolt” a 100m dash down the straight with all of the ambassadors. On course you will be able to pick who you thinks will win and donate to the cause – all donations will go in the draw to win a Dual Sulky race with a Canterbury Ambassador on 26th November. Next Tuesday the 26th September will also see the Blue September Bingo Night at Addington Raceway – tickets can be purchased by contacting courtney@hrnz.co.nz The campaign raised $50,000 last year with the aim to do the same this year. With only just over a week to go the harness racing industry can help us reach this target by donating here View the full article
