Hong Kong racing heads back to Happy Valley on Wednesday evening, with eight competitive races set for decision. The rail is in the B position, and the weather seems to be clearing up across Hong Kong, so we should be seeing the track upgraded to a Good 4 after some testing conditions of late. The first race is set to get underway at 7:15pm HKT (9:15pm AEST).

Best Bet: Galvanic

Galvanic has been a tough horse to gauge in his Hong Kong racing career with six starts and four minor placings to his name. He’s yet to find the winner’s enclosure, but his latest effort at this course and distance on June 14 warrants plenty of respect. He was exposed a long way from home on that occasion and wasn’t disgraced, clinging on for second place. He put a solid margin back to third, and with a soft barrier trial heading into Wednesday night, this seems like the best chance for Galvanic to repay the faith.

Next Best: Owners’ Praise

It’s rare we’d be tipping a galloper on the three-day backup, but that’s exactly the case with Owners’ Praise. He was closing behind a wall of horses on Sunday at Sha Tin over 1400m and never got clear. It was a glorified barrier trial for the son of Toronado, so he should be fit and firing for this 1650m contest. He draws perfectly again with gate two, and provided he gets clear when turning for home, Owners’ Praise should find himself in the finish.

Best Value: Joy Of Spring

Joy Of Spring is set to make his racing debut for the Caspar Fownes stable and has shown enough at the barrier trials to suggest he can make a strong impression. The gelding by Deep Field travelled sweetly in his latest jump-out at Sha Tin on September 4, and although he was beaten by 5.5 lengths, the margin is deceiving given Brenton Avdulla didn’t ask him for much. We should be getting a nice price with online bookmakers, so we’re happy to take the risk.
