Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted September 19, 2023 Journalists Share Posted September 19, 2023 Charm Stone will be the lone filly in the 2023 Golden Rose field. (Picture: George Sal/Racing Photos) A field of 13 three-year-olds will do battle in Saturday afternoon’s Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens. Race favourite Shinzo, from the Chris Waller barn, is set to have his first start since claiming the prestigious Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) and will need to overcome barrier 10 upon his return to the racetrack. The Coolmore-owned colt will be reunited with superstar jockey Ryan Moore, and if his last trial on August 11 is anything to go by, Shinzo looks the one to beat. Multiple Group 1 winner Militarize, also trained by Waller, comes to the Golden Rose second-up after an eye-catching fifth in the Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m) when beaten by three quarters of a length. Joao Moreira, who guided Militarize to victory in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m), will jump aboard for the first time this spring. On the back of his win in The Run To The Rose, Cylinder will be looking to hand Godolphin a fourth win in the Golden Rose since 2015. One filly will go up against the colts and geldings, with Charm Stone looking to add to back-to-back wins in the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) and Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) in her two runs this campaign. The 2023 Golden Rose is the feature event on the 10-race program at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, September 23.
