Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted September 19, 2023 Journalists Share Posted September 19, 2023 What Lismore Cup Day Where Lismore Turf Club – 9A Woodlawn Rd, North Lismore NSW 2480 When Thursday, September 21, 2023 First Race 12:50pm AEST Visit Ladbrokes Big Dance eligibility is up for grabs on Thursday afternoon as the Lismore Turf Club hosts a stacked eight-race program for its marquee meeting. The $75,000 Lismore Cup (2110m) has drawn a field of 10 runners vying for the opportunity to compete on the first Tuesday of November. The rail is out +2.5m between the 950m-300m, +1.5m from the 300m to the winning post, then set true for the remainder. The track should be in Good 4 condition, courtesy of some beautiful weather, and the opening event is set to get underway at 12:50pm AEST. Lismore Cup Tip: Savvy Lad Savvy Lad will be searching for his third-straight win of the campaign on Thursday, backing up from a dominant win in the Lismore Cup Prelude a fortnight ago. He made every post a winner on September 7 at this course and distance, kicking away from his rivals to score by 2.7 lengths. The Savabeel gelding couldn’t have been more impressive, and he only seems to be improving with every run this preparation. Matthew McGuren will look to lead on the seven-year-old once again, and if he finds the front, he will take plenty of catching. Lismore Cup Race 7 – #1 Savvy Lad (4) 7yo Gelding | T: Tony Newing | J: Matthew McGuren (58.5kg) Bet with Bet365 Best Bet at Lismore: Centre Bounce Centre Bounce has been racing in Highway company of late and takes a dramatic step down in grade on Thursday afternoon. The daughter of Star Turn finished mid-field in her latest effort at Randwick on September 2 when charging late but getting crowded for room in the concluding stages. It was better than the 2.6-length margin may suggest, and with this being a much easier task, we’d be shocked if Centre Bounce wasn’t closing off best this time. Best Bet Race 2 – #1 Centre Bounce (8) 4yo Mare | T: Matthew Dunn | J: Matthew McGuren (61.5kg) Bet with Neds Next Best at Lismore: Headley Grange Headley Grange is set to make his debut at Lismore, and although he’s only had one official barrier trial, we like what we saw from the three-year-old gelding. He held his ground nicely on the inside rail at Coffs Harbour on September 4, only being beaten by a half-length at the finish. Two horses have already franked the form of that jump-out by going on to score at the races, and despite an awkward draw (14) to overcome, we’re confident Headley Grange can continue that trend. Next Best Race 4 – #8 Headley Grange (14) 3yo Gelding | T: Noel Mayfield-Smith | J: Matthew Palmer (56.5kg) Bet with BoomBet Best Value at Lismore: Draft Day Having moved from the Leon & Troy Corstens stable, Draft Day is set to make his debut for Ethan Ensby this week. He doesn’t bring much form to the table, with the son of Tivaci going unplaced in his last five starts; however, his barrier trial here on September 7 gave some hope that the five-year-old can recapture his best. He travelled up to his rivals under a stranglehold and could’ve easily been asked to win the jump-out. Draft Day clearly had more to give, and we expect him to prove it on Thursday.
