Barry and Joni Butzow homebred ZOZOS (c, 4, Munnings–Papa's Forest, by Forestry) kicked on strongly through the final eighth of a mile and held off a late charge from fellow 'TDN Rising Star' Stage Raider (Pioneerof the Nile) to earn a long-overdue first success at the graded level in Saturday's GIII Ack Ack S. at Churchill Downs. The victory locks up a spot in the field for the GI Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile at Santa Anita Nov. 4. The 3-5 chalk hit the ground running and made the pace in advance of 'Rising Star' Caddo River (Hard Spun) through a half-mile in a manageable :47.10 as Stage Raider enjoyed the run of the race from third. Zozos still had company from Caddo River as they reached the entrance to the stretch, but the latter was about to call it a day as Stage Raider worked his way his way into the clear. Zozos was asked for a kick by Florent Geroux with a furlong to travel and finished full of run for the win, while Three Technique (Mr Speaker) closed from the tail of the field for third. Having won the Knicks Go S. over this same course and distance May 6, Zozos was becoming the 27th worldwide graded winner for his Coolmore America-based son of Speightstown. Lifetime Record: 11-7-1-0. O/B-Barry & Joni Butzow (KY); T-Brad Cox.
