The GII Stoll Keenon Odgen Phoenix S., the oldest stakes race in North America, was won Friday afternoon at Keeneland by Hoist the Gold (Mineshaft–Tacit Approval, by Tapit). The victory earned him a ticket to the GI Breeders' Cup Qatar Racing Sprint.

Riding the rail at odds of 6-1, the 4-year-old colt backed off along the backstretch as Sibelius (Not This Time) and Doctor Oscar (Shackleford) battled for the lead. Fanning wide around the far turn, the Dallas Stewart trainee took over past the eighth pole and spurning a drive from favorite Bango (Congrats) and Nakatomi (Firing Line), the homebred held off his pursuers to get the win.

The final running time was 1:09.13.

Lifetime Record: 24-4-6-3.
