Having originally been scheduled for Bairnsdale, racing heads to the synthetic track at Pakenham on Monday afternoon owing to wet weather. Eight races are slated for the meeting and with a perfect spring day forecast, every runner should get their chance if good enough. Action from Pakenham commences at 1:30pm AEST.

Best Bet at Pakenham: Magnupur

If Magnupur doesn’t break his maiden at Pakenham on Monday, connections might just leave him there. The four-year-old gelding chased home the smart Outta Compton first-up at Sale, before being rolled as a short-priced favourite in an easier maiden at Warrnambool on September 25. The Magnus gelding has struck an even easier maiden in this, and from barrier six, Patrick Moloney will have him in the one-one upon settling. There’ll be no excuses for Magnupur from that point on.

Best Bet

Race 3 – Silks#1 Magnupur (6)

4yo Gelding | T: Robbie Griffiths & Mathew de Kock | J: Patrick Moloney (59.5kg)

+105 with Betfair

Next Best at Pakenham: Pink Beau Ty

The Brian McGrath-trained Pink Beau Ty broke maiden ranks when smashing his rivals at Donald on September 17 and can go on with the job on Monday. This will be his first look at the synthetic, but if he holds or even builds on his form in recent times, it should be more than enough to account for this BM58 field. From barrier three, Matt Cartwright will be able to stalk the speed throughout and with even luck upon straightening, Pink Beau Ty should have too much up his sleeve for this lot.

Next Best

Race 8 – silks#9 Pink Beau Ty (3)

4yo Gelding | T: Brian McGrath | J: Matthew Cartwright (60kg)

Best Value at Pakenham: Beldivian

Beldivian hasn’t found the winner’s stall in over two years, but the way he hits the line each start, suggests a win cannot be too far away. The Don Dwyer-trained gelding has two seconds and a third in three goes at the Pakenham synthetic 1000m and gets his chance to breakthrough. Barrier 13 is offset by the fact he wants to get back and run on and with the speed expected to be on, Beldivian can launch down the heart of the track and blouse the leaders in style.

Best Value

Race 7 – Silks#10 Beldivian (13)

5yo Gelding | T: Don Dwyer | J: Zac Spain (58.5kg)
