Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted October 13, 2023 Journalists Posted October 13, 2023 Echo Zulu (Gun Runner) is reported to have broken down this morning while working at Santa Anita in company with Gunite (Gun Runner), according to multiple news outlets. The California radio station WAAX appears to have been first with the news. “I heard it was a pretty bad breakdown and hopefully she survives and they can save the horse,” the station reported. David Grening from DRF posted on the social media platform X, “Echo Zulu sustained a biaxial sesamoid bone fracture of the left-front fetlock during training this morning at Santa Anita. She has been stabilized in a kimzey splint and will undergo surgery Saturday morning, per trainer Steve Asmussen.” Calls to the connections and surgical team have not yet been returned. Echo Zulu was pointing towards either the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, where she was expected to be the favorite, or the Dirt Mile. This story will be updated.
