Visit Dabble

Provincial racing heads to the Hunter on Tuesday afternoon, as Newcastle Racecourse plays host to a competitive eight-race program. The rail is out +3m the entire circuit, and with some light showers expected in the region leading into race-day, we’re anticipating the surface to come up a Soft 5 on Tuesday morning. The first race is set to get underway at 1:15pm AEDT.

Best Bet at Newcastle: Godzilla

Godzilla will be second-up into the campaign on Tuesday afternoon after being a beaten favourite first-up at Kembla Grange on October 7. He was beaten by seven lengths on that occasion on a day where it was suitable to be ridden on-speed. He was way too far back to figure over the 1300m as Candlelit went on to make every post a winner. Godzilla did enough to suggest he’s worth following, however, and as Tommy Berry hops in the saddle for the Snowden’s, we’re confident he’ll improve greatly here.

Next Best at Newcastle: Port Lockroy

Port Lockroy comes through some superior form-lines heading to Newcastle on Tuesday and should prove very hard to beat. He finished fifth in the Listed Dulcify Stakes (1600m) on September 30 and was far form disgraced in what was an ultra-competitive contest. This is a much more obtainable task for the three-year-old colt, and although he’s got a sticky draw (15) to overcome, Port Lockroy should prove too good for Class 1 company.

Next Best Again at Newcastle: Incessant

Incessant was climbing all over the back of his opposition on debut at Randwick (Kensington) on October 4 and was impressive running into a second-place finish. The son of Savabeel continued to get checked back in the running and turned for home from the rear. It was no fault of jockey Jason Collett, and once getting clear stormed through the wire. If Incessant can replicate his first-up effort, with a bit more luck in transit, he’ll find himself in the finish once again.
