Winners Stakes

Betting Guide
Date: Saturday, November 4, 2023
Location: Rosehill Racecourse – Sydney, New South Wales
Prize Money: $3,000,000
Distance: 1300m

The Winners Stakes is a race that is held at Rosehill Racecourse for horses aged three-years-old and older, run under set weight conditions and boasts a $3,000,000 prize pool.

The Winners Stakes was first introduced in 2019 when the race was run as the Redzel Stakes. Each season the name of the Winners Stakes is changed to honour the previous winner of The Everest.

Several runners and all of the winners of the Winners Stakes have come through The Everest earlier in the spring, indicating that the $10 million race is the ideal form reference for the Winners Stakes.

For Everest runners that compete in the Winners Stakes, a $750,000 bonus is up for grabs if they are able to claim victory.

Recent Winners Stakes results

  • 2022: Private Eye blows them away
Private Eye (+450) has flown home from the rear of the field with a huge run to take out the 2022 $3 million Winners Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill Gardens for Joe Pride. Once again under the guidance of Brenton Avdulla, Private Eye was settled towards the rear of the field before unleashing a blistering turn of foot down the Rosehill straight. Mazu (+400) battled away on the inside and finished second, while Kementari (+2000) came down the outside with the winner to finish third.
  • 2021: Eduardo leads all the way in the Winners Stakes
Nash Rawiller and Eduardo (+200) have led every step of the way in the $3 million Winners Stakes. The Joseph Pride-trained sprinter bounced to the front and was once he was able to get an uncontested lead, he was always going to be hard to run down. He scooted further in front turning for home and held Lost And Running (+650) at bay by 1.25 lengths with Standout (+2000) another 2.5 lengths away third.
  • 2020: Gytrash nails Haut Brion Her in the shadows of the post
On a wet day at Rosehill, Jason Collett has given the Gordon Richards-trained Gytrash (+260) a well timed ride to claim the Winners Stakes. After settling on-speed, Haut Brion Her (+270) appeared to have stolen the race at the 150m mark as she built a three length lead over the eventual winner. However, the South Australian star sprinter let down with his blistering turn of foot in the final 200m and motored over the top of the leader late to claim victory.
  • 2019: Pierata proves a class above
After getting no luck in The Everest earlier in the campaign, Pierata (+140) claimed his consolation victory in the Winners Stakes. Although it was named the consolation race, the Greg Hickman-trained sprinter picked up $1.3 million in prize money. Tommy Berry gave his mount a great ride and when he pushed the button, the race favourite flew down the outside to beat Trekking (+450) and Le Romain (+2500), who filled the placings.
