Happy Valley racing tips

What Happy Valley Races
Where Happy Valley Racecourse – Wong Nai Chung Rd, Happy Valley, Hong Kong
When Wednesday, November 8, 2023
First Race 6:40pm HKT (9:40pm AEDT)

Hong Kong racing is back under the bright lights of Happy Valley Racecourse on Wednesday night for a massive nine-race program. It should be perfect conditions for racing, with no rain forecast in the lead-up and the rail moving back to the A position. The opening race is scheduled for 6:40pm HKT (9:40pm AEDT).

Best Bet: Sweet Briar

Sweet Briar will be seeking a swift return to the winner’s enclosure after just going under when resuming at the Happy Valley 1200m on September 27. He was narrowly defeated by Lightning Bolt on that occasion, who he now meets 4kg better off at the weights while staying at track and trip. Lyle Hewitson only needs to find cover somewhere mid-field aboard the son of Shamexpress, and from there, watch for Sweet Briar to be closing best down the centre of the course.

Next Best: Strongest Boy

Strongest Boy is winless after 11 Hong Kong starts, but recent form suggests the David Hayes-trained gelding isn’t far away from maiden success. He drew barrier 13 in his latest start at Sha Tin on October 22, being forced to the rear of the field in a race that was run to suit on-speed gallopers. The four-year-old chased courageously but couldn’t make enough inroads. The Happy Valley 1650m should be ideal for Strongest Boy, and with Zac Purton electing to stick, so are we.

Next Best Again: A Americ Te Specso

A Americ Te Specso will relish getting back to his favourite course and distance after finding the 1000m too short last start. He dropped back into Class 4 company for the first time this season on October 18 and, although short of his best, still powered through the line to finish fourth. His two career wins have come at the Happy Valley 1200m, so we’ll be expecting win number three on Wednesday night for A Americ Te Specso.
