His chances having been boosted by the way the muddy Aqueduct main track was carrying speed, HOIST THE GOLD (c, 4, Mineshaft–Tacit Approval, by Tapit) proved the speediest of the speeds signed on for Saturday's GII Cigar Mile H. and he and John Velazquez gave nothing else a chance. The 8-1 chance, a latest sixth in the GI Breeders' Cup Sprint, wrested command of the race not long after the break and got the opening couple of furlongs in :22.41 and a half in :44.88 while pressed along to his outside by Pipeline (Speightstown). He began to get the better of that battle as the quarter pole loomed and he pinched a break, as none of his rivals was emerging as dangers. Five to six lengths clear entering the final furlong, Velazquez needed only to remain in the saddle to secure the victory, as Senor Buscador, seven wide into the lane from a hopeless position, did good work to round out a Mineshaft exacta. Castle Chaos (Palace Malice) outfinished Three Technique (Mr Speaker) for third. The final time was 1:34.38. Sales history: $47,000 RNA Ylg '20 KEESEP. O-Dream Team One Racing Stable; B-Dream Team Racing (KY); T-Dallas Stewart.
