Visit Dabble

Randwick is the destination for metro racing in NSW this Saturday afternoon, with a competitive 10-race program set for decision. The track is listed as a Soft 6 at the time of writing, however, with drying conditions expected in the lead-up, the surface should be firming into the Good range prior to the opening event at 12:30pm AEDT. The rail moves out +8m from the 1600m to winning post, while the remainder of the rail is out +6m.

Best Bet: Aristonous

Aristonous made a promising return from a spell at this course on December 9, closing off impressively over an unsuitable trip. The 1600m proved too sharp for the son of Saonois, particularly due to the lack of tempo supplied by his rivals. He still savaged the line to secure a third-place finish, and with the immediate step up in trip to the 1800m a key factor, watch for Aristonous to show his class second-up.

Next Best: I’m A Dirty Rascal

After two strong performances to kick off the preparation, I’m A Dirty Rascal appears set for a career peak as he searches for his first Australian victory. He tackled Listed company at Rosehill on December 2 and made a strong account of himself, just missing out on the minor money. He draws barrier two on Saturday to hold a prominent position in running, and although I’m A Dirty Racal will need to lug an extra 9.5kg while dropping in grade, it shouldn’t hinder his chances.

Best Value: Tarpaulin

The James Cummings barn has elected to send Tarpaulin to the races after one official barrier trial. The colt by Harry Angel was magnificent in his recent jump-out at Rosehill on December 18, powering through the wire from the back end of the field to finish runner-up. Tarpaulin may not be fully wound up for this event, with bigger fish to fry in future two-year-old features, but he is worth the risk at a good each-way price with online bookmakers.
