Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted December 28, 2023 Journalists Share Posted December 28, 2023 What Darwin Races Where Fannie Bay Racecourse – Dick Ward Dr, Fannie Bay NT 0820 When Saturday, December 30, 2023 First Race 1:57pm ACST Visit Dabble The Darwin Turf Club will farewell the year in style with 60 runners on deck for a seven-event program on Saturday. Darwin received 37.6mm of rain on Tuesday, with showers and thunderstorms likely for the rest of the week. Mostly sunny conditions with the medium chance of showers and a thunderstorm is the forecast for Saturday. North to north-westerly winds at 15-20km/h will greet runners along the back straight with a top temperature of 35C. The rail will be in the true position, and despite the rain, it will be a good surface. Best Bet at Darwin: Wilsons Prom Despite the fact Wilsons Prom has yet to taste success over 1600m after four attempts, he is seemingly perfectly placed after an impressive last start win over 1300m (BM54) two weeks ago. Wilsons Prom won in grand style by four lengths, but he was always knocking on the door after three straight seconds over 1300m (0-58) in September, 1300m (0-58) in November and 1200m (Class 2) on December 1. Wilsons Prom clearly had plenty left in the tank last start to suggest that he can finally get that first 1600m win. Best Bet Race 6 – #2 Wilsons Prom (2) 5yo Gelding | T: Gary Clarke | J: Adam Nicholls (59.5kg) Bet with Bet365 Next Best At Darwin: Shecanmixit Shecanmixit produced a sensational performance on debut at Fannie Bay on December 8 when she not only won a 1000m maiden by 9.8 lengths but broke the track record after stopping the clock at 56.02 seconds. She jumped from gate one that day as a $1.50 favourite with 55kg on her back thanks to Alice Springs apprentice Ianish Luximon’s 2kg claim. The daughter of Danerich steps up to open class for the first time and was an early $4.80 third favourite. A wider gate in an 11-horse field will test Shecanmixit on Saturday, but she will certainly benefit from the talents of experienced jockey Paul Shiers. Next Best Race 5 – #5 Shecanmixit (8) 5yo Mare | T: Chloe Baxter | J: Paul Shiers (57kg) Bet with Neds Best Value at Darwin: Pop Magic Pop Magic’s form has fluctuated since arriving from the stable of Kris Lees in Newcastle, but the five-year-old gelding is currently doing little wrong. He finished second – albeit by 9.8 lengths – over 1100m (BM54) when Patriotic King broke the track record (1.01.84) in September before finishing second once again over 1100m (0-58) in October. The son of Wandjina returned on December 1 to seal victory by 2.3 lengths over 1100m (0-58), but on Saturday he is stepping up in grade. Alpha Flight and Fly Nice will take some stopping, but if there is going to be an upset, Pop Magic must be considered. His record over 1100m stands at three wins and three seconds from nine starts. Best Value Race 4 – #6 Pop Magic (2) 5yo Gelding | T: Ella Clarke | J: Aaron Sweeney (58.5kg) Bet with Unibet Darwin Saturday quaddie tips – 30/12/2023 Darwin quadrella selections Saturday, December 30, 2023 1-8 1-2-3-5 2-5 1-2-3-4-5 More horse racing tips View the full article
