NSW metro racing returns to Rosehill on Saturday afternoon, with an ultra-competitive 10-race program set for decision. The meeting is scheduled to get underway at 12:30pm local time, and although there are some scattered thunderstorms predicted in the region prior to race-day, there’s no expected rainfall to hit the course proper. We anticipate the yielding surface at the time of acceptances to get a significant upgrade towards the Good to Soft range as the rail moves out +3m the entire circuit.

Best Bet at Rosehill: Caballus

Formerly trained by Chris Waller, Caballus looks prepared for a first-up assault with the Bjorn Baker barn as the three-year-old colt makes his return after a 115-day spell. The son of I Am Invincible put together a strong campaign, however, seemingly lost his way towards the end of the preparation, only managing to finish four lengths away from Felix Majestic in a BM72 at this course on September 27. A change of environment has seemingly done the trick, with two impressive barrier trials wins catching the eye, with Caballus striding clear in both jump-outs. There’s speed to burn in this contest, and with Joshua Parr smoking the pipe in behind the speed, watch for this guy to be launching late.

Next Best at Rosehill: Step Aside

Step Aside has started his preparation in terrific fashion, securing a first-up victory before two luckless minor placing performances over the Randwick 1400m. The gelding was crowded for room at a crucial stage two starts back behind Fairway star, and almost grinded home for a win, before getting too far back behind a perfectly rated Luvoir last start on December 30. That latest effort has produced two subsequent winners, with Testator Silens and Excelledus both peaking since, and with the extra 100m being a major positive, we’re confident Step Aside can add to that figure.

Best Value at Rosehill: Tartaglia

The two-year-olds step out in the opening event at Rosehill on Saturday afternoon, and we think Tartaglia sneaks into this field under the radar. The James Cummings-trained Godolphin colt has been hard held in his recent barrier trials, with the latest eight-length margin possibly leaving some punters concerned, but it isn’t a true reflection of how he’s travelling. He’s yet to be fully extended at the jump-outs and we think this son of Too Darn Hot has plenty left to give heading to the races. There’s undoubtedly some talented unexposed types in this field, and at the price, we’re willing to risk Tartaglia being one of them.
