Bob Baffert had a pair of pricey 3-year-olds making their debuts over a rainy Santa Anita main track Saturday but it was the cheaper of the pair, MAYMUN (c, 3, Frosted–Handwoven, by Indian Charlie), who romped to 'TDN Rising Star' status with an impressive gate-to-wire performance. A $50,000 KEESEP yearling turned $900,000 OBS April 2-year-old, the 4-5 favorite had things all his own way on the front end, cruising through sizzling fractions of :21.72 and :43.91 and just opening up into the lane while his rivals were already under a drive. The final time for the 6 1/2 furlongs was 1:15.59. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0.
