Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted January 24 Journalists Share Posted January 24 What Warwick Farm Races Where Warwick Farm Racecourse – 2 Hume Hwy, Warwick Farm NSW 2170 When Friday, January 26, 2024 First Race 1:40pm AEDT Visit Dabble Public holiday racing heads to Warwick Farm on Friday afternoon, with a competitive seven-race program set down for decision. The rail is moved out +2m the entire circuit, and although there are overcast conditions predicted in the lead-up, no rainfall is expected to hit the course proper. The opening race is set to get underway at 1:40pm AEDT. Australia Day Cup Top Tip: Naval College The $200,000 Listed Australia Day Cup (2400m) is the feature event on Friday afternoon, with Naval College on the brink of a hat-trick of wins. The son of Dartmouth couldn’t have been more impressive last start, running his rivals into the ground and bolting away with the prize by 3.8 lengths at Rosehill on January 13. He smashed the track record on that occasion and the five-year-old seems to have plenty of upside stepping out further in trip. James McDonald gets the nod this time for the Annabel Neasham barn, and provided Naval College gets even luck in running from gate five, we’d be shocked if this guy wasn’t closing off best once again. Australia Day Cup Race 6 – #2 Naval College (5) 5yo Gelding | T: Annabel Neasham | J: James McDonald (58.5kg) Bet with Picklebet Best Bet at Warwick Farm: Ashfall Ashfall makes his return after a 138-day spell and a disappointing effort in the Group 3 Ming Dynasty (1400m) on September 9. He missed the kick significantly and was unable to make an impression in the three-year-old feature. He has been back to the barrier trials for two soft hit-outs since that effort, and although he was well-beaten in both trials, the colt by The Autumn Sun wasn’t asked to fully extend. The Waller camp apply blinkers for the first time, and with Tommy Berry taking the reins from a soft draw (3), we should see a much-improved version of Ashfall. Best Bet Race 4 – #5 Ashfall (3) 3yo Colt | T: Chris Waller | J: Tommy Berry (59.5kg) Bet with Neds Next Best Warwick Farm: Infinitive Infinitive suffered a set-back towards the end of last preparation and finally returns to race-day conditions after 306 days off the scene. She was brave in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) on March 25 and produced a solid mid-field effort against some quality opposition. Her recent jump-out caught the eye at Rosehill on January 11, with the four-year-old slicing her way through the field to finish 4.3 lengths away. She gains the services of James McDonald in this event, and with the form reading stronger than BM72 company, Infinitive should be right in this. Next Best Race 3 – #4 Infinitive (7) 4yo Mare | T: Chris Waller | J: James McDonald (60kg) Bet with Bet365 Best Value at Warwick Farm: Monte Kate Monte Kate is progressing well through her first campaign and was unlucky not to make it back-to-back wins last start at Kembla Grange on January 13. She was shifted out and chased gamely behind Lichester in Class 1 company on that occasion, and never shirked the task to be beaten less than half-length. Her best asset is early speed, and we would like to see Tommy Berry take luck out of the equation in this BM72, attempting to lead from gate four. From there, Monte Kate will be trying to hold out her rivals to the wire.
