Brisbane Racing Club will host a massive 10-race program at Eagle Farm Racecourse on Saturday afternoon. Although the track is rated a Soft 6 at the time of acceptances, there is no rain on the forecast for Friday and Saturday, so we expect to be racing on a perfect Good 4 surface for the whole meeting. The rail will be brought back into the +3m position for the entire circuit, with the opening race scheduled to jump at 12:13pm AEST.

Best Bet at Eagle Farm: Captain Fenkel

Marcus Wilson and James Orman will combine again with Captain Fenkel after the three-year-old gelding broke his maiden last start in dominant fashion at Doomben over 1350m. Orman allowed him to settle behind the speed before peeling off the leader’s back to let down with a good turn of foot and run away with a 3.5-length victory. From barrier seven, Orman should be able to follow Coney Island Baby towards the front of the field, settle in the box seat, and gain the run of the race.

Best Bet

Race 5 – Silks#2 Captain Fenkel (7)

3yo Gelding | T: Marcus Wilson | J: James Orman (58kg)

+170 with Neds

Next Best at Eagle Farm: Shopping Esprit

Shopping Esprit has turned in two solid performances since returning from an 18-week spell in December, with his last-start third behind Freedom Rally being the better of the two. The Chris Waller-trained gelding will be much fitter third-up and should be peaking for this contest over 1600m, a distance he has won at three times. Although this son of Bel Esprit drops in grade slightly from last start, he also drops in weight and will only have to carry 56.5kg in a much easier race. From barrier two, James Orman should be able to settle behind the speed off the fence and allow Shopping Esprit to build momentum early in the straight.

Next Best

Race 9 – silks#5 Shopping Esprit (2)

7yo Gelding | T: Chris Waller | J: James Orman (56.5kg)

+270 with Picklebet

Best Value at Eagle Farm: Koruto

After taking charge of Koruto in July last year, Tom Dougall has him racing in career-best form this preparation, recording four wins and three placings from 12 starts. The six-year-old gelding won over 1600m here two starts back before being defeated in a photo finish by Chayse ‘N’ Artie at this track and trip last time out. With Jake Molloy taking the reins for the fourth straight start and claiming 3kg, this son of Written Tycoon gets in very well at the weights in this 1815m contest. Although he meets the winner and third horse from his last start, the conditions are right for Koruto to turn the tables.

Best Value

Race 4 – silks#2 Koruto (3)

6yo Gelding | T: Tom Dougall | J: Jake Molloy (a3) (59kg)
