Moonee Valley night racing tips

What Moonee Valley Races
Where Moonee Valley Racecourse – 1 McPherson St, Moonee Ponds VIC 3039
When Friday, February 9, 2024
First Race 6:15pm AEDT

Visit Dabble

An eight-race program awaits punters at Moonee Valley this Friday evening. With no rain on the forecast and a perfect summer day expected, the track should remain in the Good range for the whole meeting. The rail will be pushed out to the +6m position, with the opening race scheduled to jump at 6:15pm AEDT.

Best Bet at Moonee Valley: Shaime

Shaime has finished inside the placings in all three of her runs this campaign, with her last start being the best of them. The Cliff Brown-trained mare led for most of the 1200m contest at Flemington but was overrun in the final strides by Southern Fire and had to settle for second place. This daughter of Turffontein should be at peak fitness fourth-up, and with all the other speed influences jumping from wide barriers, Blake Shinn should be able to push forward, hold the rail, and control the race from the front.

Best Bet

Race 8 – Silks#9 Shaime (2)

Next Best at Moonee Valley: Perfect Ending

Perfect Ending and Justifiable Award will meet for the second time in as many races, and we think the former can turn the tables on the latter. The Matt Cumani-trained galloper led the field up over 1500m at Mornington but was run over in the final 100m by the race favourite. However, if Perfect Ending can control the race from the front and Declan Bates gives her a cheap split mid-run, she should be able to give a strong kick in the final 300m.

Race 3 – Silks#5 Perfect Ending (3)

Next Best Again at Moonee Valley: Young Liam

Young Liam has finished in the placings in two of his last three starts and is coming off a strong second behind Miss Icelandic, who won again at Caulfield last Saturday. The Michael & Luke Cerchi-trained gelding led every step of the way that evening before the winner flashed home late and nabbed him in the shadows of the winning post. From barrier four, Thomas Stockdale will push forward and let this son of Exceed And Excel run the race to suit himself. If Young Liam’s rivals don’t pressure him, he will prove very hard to run down.
