(Photo by Morgan Hancock/Racing Photos) After partnering Imperatriz during Monday morning’s workout, jockey Michael Dee is acutely aware of the formidable challenge he faces when he saddles up aboard Espiona for Saturday’s Black Caviar Lightning (1000m). Trained by Chris Waller, the five-year-old is gearing up for her inaugural 1000m race, prompting Dee to share his thoughts with Racing.com. “She’s fit, she’s fresh for the 1000 metres, so if Imperatriz isn’t winning, I am sure Espiona is one of them that can run her down,” Dee remarked confidently, highlighting Espiona’s readiness for the sprint distance. He acknowledged the competitive nature of the field, noting, “It looks like it’s only going to be a small field, but a strong field at that, and you could make a case for every horse in the race.” Espiona currently rated a +1400 winning chance in all-in markets for the Black Caviar Lightning with leading horse racing bookmakers.
